Happy 4th of July Reminder: The Library will be CLOSED Monday, July 4 for Independence Day. Have a safe and happy holiday! We would like to extend our great appreciation to Kyle Leach, whose wonderful art in several medias have been featured in our Display case for all to enjoy. We are now featuring the photography of local award winner Nancy Theriault. For more information on these artists, or on the availability of our display case, please call 755-2944 x 2. Hay Day Saturday, August 27 The library will be closed on Hay Day, but do not despair! Our Friends group will be sponsoring their 4th Annual Giant Book Sale! Get there early for the biggest selection. New Library Hours Please note these important changes in our hours! The library will be open on Thursdays from 12:00-5:00 PM and CLOSED on Fridays. Library Cards We are now scanning barcodes on library cards at the checkout desk. Please remember to bring your card with you when you visit the library so everything will go smoothly. DVD Checkouts Please note these important changes the Library has made in an effort to met the increasing demand on our DVD collection, DVD loans are now limited to a one week (7 days) with no renewals. DVD late fees have increased to .25 per day overdue. Library Program Meeting Space Patrons, please remember that the Goodwin Library holds many programs from 6:00-8:00 PM on Monday and Wednesday nights at our big conference table in the Non-Fiction/Public Access Computer Room. If you need quiet time at the computer during this program time, please bring or ask for headphones. Thank you for understanding our space limitations. Staff Picks and Patron Picks Bookmarks Looking for a good read among our many new books? Check out our Staff Picks bookmarks. Our staff has a wide variety of reading tastes and with these bookmarks, we can recommend our favorite titles to you. Did you just finish a great read that you want to recommend? Grab one of our new Patron Picks bookmarks from the bookmark rack and share your enthusiasm with other patrons. Friends of the Goodwin Library Meeting There is no meeting in July. The next Friends meeting will be Wednesday, August 10th at 6:00 PM. If you are interested in finding out more about the Friends, you are welcome to attend. Applications to become a member of the Friends are available at the library and available on the Friends blog at www.goodwinlibrary.com. Monthly Meetings: Please note that our regular monthly meetings will resume in September. We wish all our participants an inspired and creative summer! Gardeners Roundtable Field Trips The group had a wonderful tour of Dr. Tomatos (David OConner) greenhouses in June. David grows and sells his veggie and herb plants locally at Blue Seal Feeds in Rochester. We also visited his home-a castle called Castle Aman Cara-which he and his wife, Loretta, built themselves, and is amazing! The group wishes to thank David and Loretta for all their generosity and hospitality. Saturday, July 30th will be our 2nd annual Garden Tour. We will meet in the bank parking lot at 1:00 PM, so mark your calendars! Our official meetings start up again in the fall. New members are always welcome. Come share your love of gardening, self-sufficiency skills and farming knowledge. Farmington Film Society at the Goodwin Library Our last event of the season was a great evening with film-maker Steve Day who showed his film Marriage For Beginners, gave a short Power Point talk called 20 Minute Film School and answered questions about how he organized, cast, and filmed his movie. We are hoping to host a mini-festival of Steves films sometime in the late fall. The Film Society also showed the independent film Lost in Laconia which we showed with special permission from the film-makers. Join us when we return from our summer break in September for more great films and discussion. Adult Poets and Writers Group

We are on hiatus until September. This is a great time to take those journals to the beach, on vacation or just out to the garden. Inspiration is everywhere! Have a

Call 755 2944 ext. 2 for more information. Adult Book Club We ended our season at the June meeting with a lively and insightful discussion on Philip K. Dicks Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. Thanks to everyone for his or her enthusiasm and insights into this fascinating book. Summertime is time for beach reads. Choose your favorites and join us in September to tell us about them. Happy reading! Kids Cartoon Club Were on break until September, so be sure to practice your cartooning and writing skills and bring in what youve worked on over the summer to show us in the fall. Childrens Room News We had a record-breaking kick-off to the Summer Reading Program! 265 people attended, 114 children sign-up for the SRP, 16 Teens signed up for the Teen SRP. Thanks to all the volunteers and organizations that joined us to celebrate summer reading. Thanks also to The Byrne Foundation, The Cogswell Benevolent Trust, the New Hampshire Library Association, and the New Hampshire State Library for sponsoring "Reptiles on the Move. Childrens Summer Reading Program There is still time to sign-up for the Summer Reading Program! Registration is open through July 9. When your children sign up they will receive a special SRP reading log, bookmarks, book-bag and other SRP items. As you log books you read you will be eligible for weekly prizes, so dont miss the cut-off date! The theme of the 2011 Summer Reading Program is One World, Many Stories. We will be highlighting many countries, their legends, and stories including various ways of telling stories through art and music . We started with Asia on June 27. Over the summer we will be exploring Hawaii beginning the week of July 5 (the library is closed the 4), followed by Africa; the week July 11, South America; the week of July 18, and a personal favorite, Scotland; the week of July 25.

Wednesday, July 27 at 9:00 AM at the Valley View Community School. All are welcome to join us at the school for these free special events! Pick up our SRP calendar in the Childrens Room for a complete listing of all our programs and crafts! Summer Food Program for Kids Free Meals for Children ages 0-18 The Goodwin Library is again sponsoring the Southern NH Services Summer Food Supper Site. We invite Farmington and Middleton children and their families to join us Monday through Friday at Fernald Park from 5:00 to 6:00 PM for a tasty and nutritious meal. Please note the program will be closed on July 1 and July 4. Free Breakfasts are also available from 8:15- 8:45 AM at Fernald Park, and Free Lunches from 11:30 AM12:00PM at the Henry Wilson School Playground. All families are welcome and there is no registration required! Teens News You Are Here Teen Summer Reading Program You Are Here is a free 6 week drop-in program for teens ages 12-18. The Librarys newly formed Teen Advisory Board has helped design a program that includes activities they and other teens would be sure to enjoy. Register at the library by July 9th. Teens will receive a bingo card with suggested activities to complete in order to win prizes. Teen Events will take place in Fernald Park, (rain location: library) on the following Mondays at 6:00PM: July 11- Henna Tattoos (Pre-registration required!) July 18 - T-shirt decorating program. July 25 - Mega-Bubbles. (Show up early for these events and have a free supper with the Summer Foods program!) We will also be working on a Teen Zine this summer. Join us to learn how to design, write, and draw the type of independent teen magazine that you and your friends would love to read. Comedian Simon Brooks will help us celebrate the end of the Teen and Childrens SRP program on Tuesday, July 26 at 6:00 PM in Fernald Park. Come early for

supper and stay to celebrate your accomplishments, have ice cream, and win awesome raffle prizes!
