The Summer Reading Program continues at the Westfield Washington Public Library, and the staff has planned lots of exciting programs. The reading program officially began June 6 and continues until August 13, but its not too late to enroll .You can sign up on our Web site www.wwpl.lib.in.us, or you may sign up at the library. There are some terrific prizes to work toward, including many donated from the Westfield business community. And while youre at the Web site, be sure to check out all the opportunities to take a virtual trip to many destinations at WWPL!

From the Board of Trustees

The board meeting minutes and each year in third party packets are posted on the librarys administrator fees. Web site at www.wwpl.lib.in.us. Teens Only Movie Join the summer fun with Teens Only Movie Night at the library on Tuesday, July 12, at 5 p.m. To get you set for the new Harry Potter movie, see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One ( Warner Bros. PG-13). Snacks are available, and you must be at least 13 to attend. Author Visit Author of science and fantasy fiction novels for young adults, Dawson Vosburg -- who is a teen himself -is visiting the library on Thursday, July 14, at 3 p.m. The Anderson, Indiana native is discussing his newest book Incognito, the writing process and demonstrating calligraphy and mapmaking. Fans of the Adventures of Josiah Jones series wont want to miss this! Minute to Win It Youve seen the TV show Minute to Win It, now play the game! Do you have what it takes to complete unique challenges from the hit game show and experience the excitement of beating the clock? Teens can try their luck at the library on Tuesday, July 26, at 6 p.m. Youve been challenged!
Teen Summer Reading PrIZE!

If you signed up for the reading program by June 19, you were automatically entered to win Verizon Wireless Music Center concert tickets! There were 154 teens in the drawing, and the winner of the tickets for this year is Gaby Anderson. Gaby is one of our volunteers and was in the building when we drew her name. The tickets were donated by Verizon Wireless Music Center. Keep reading - there are a lot more prizes to be won!

Adult Activities
Book Discussion Groups These groups are a great way to chat with others who have read the book, or you can just come and listen. You are invited even if you havent read the book! The Mystery Book Discussion Group, which meets the first Wednesday of each month is talking about Tilt-a-Whirl by Chris Grabenstein, on Wednesday, July 6, at 1 p.m. Future discussions are: The Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen September 7: Missing Susan by Sharon McCrumb The General Group reads a wide variety of genres and meets the third Wednesday of each month. My Name is Mary Sutter by Robin Oliveira will be the topic on Wednesday, July 20, at 1 p.m. Future discussions are: August 3: Genealogy Club Join the Westfield Genealogy Club and share ideas, new Web sites and sources about family history, as well as meet some terrific people. The club meets on Saturday, July 2, at 10:15 a.m. in the Sumner Room. Beginning and experienced genealogists are welcome to become members. Euchre Group So youre a euchre enthusiast looking for three other players? Then join in the fun when the Euchre Group meets at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Come enjoy a relaxing evening of fun with some great people at this free program on July 13 and 27. keyboard, and basic Windows. Come enjoy expressing your creativity! Adult Pottery Class Create your very own bowl on the pottery wheel with personal instruction from Jeremy South. Working by hand, you also create a vase and a plate. The class is Saturday, July 23, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Cost will be determined by the number of people enrolled. AARP Driver Safety Class The class is designed as a refresher for people age 50 and over to keep their license longer, adapt to changing roads and keep abreast of new driving laws. Class is on Wednesday, July 27, from 1 until 5 p.m. in the Sumner Room. The cost includes a workbook and all materials, and is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. Computer Classes There is a free Computer Class at the library all about Microsoft Access. Baby Love Birth to 18 Months Thursdays at 10:15 a.m. July 7, 14 & 28 Give your child a head start to early literacy with this unique program of rhyme, play and song. Free Storytime Miss Vicki will read a story, and there will be a craft afterward. Free Lego Mindstorms Team Parents Meeting The WWPL Lego robotics team competes against other teams each fall. Learn all about this fun and educational program and how your child can become part of the team (for ages 9 to 14) on Tuesday, July 12, at 6:30 p.m. Kids are welcome to attend, too. Kids Marketplace School Age Saturday, July 9, 2 - 4 p.m. Friday, July 29, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Bring your homemade creations and/or old toys and books to sell! Homemade craft items, baked goods, whatever, but kids items only, and no clothes, please. Have cash (and change) to shop, barter, and trade with other kid vendors. Free Fire Day Be at Westfield Fire Station 82(next to Cool Creek Park and across from Walmart), for Fire Day on Wednesday, July 20, at 1:30 p.m. Spray an actual fire hose, hear a safety talk, go on a station tour and more! Be prepared to get wet! No registration is required for this free program.

Special Programs for Kids

Little Gardeners Take part in a growing experience with Little Gardeners. Kids do more than just gardening in this fun summer science program. They plant, weed and harvest a Shade Garden here at the library every Thursday for 11 weeks - June 2 to August 18. Cost for the program is $88, which may be pro-rated. Prepayment and registration are required. Projects from Around the World Inspired by our summer reading theme, One World, Many Stories, Projects from Around the World is presented every Thursday. The program begins at 1 p.m. each week for 11 weeks - June 2 to August 18, and the cost is $8 for each session. Prepayment and registration are required. The Art of Paper: Snap, Crackle, Pop-Up! Make art that moves, folds, flaps and jiggles at The Art of Paper: Snap, Crackle, Pop-Up! on Friday, July 22. Create a pop-up birthday card for someone special. The program is from 10:30 a.m. until noon and is free, but please register. Snakehead Ed Meet Snakehead Eds collection of snakes from Africa, Asia, Australia, South America, and North America on Thursday, July 21. There are two free shows at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. where youll see everything from mid-sized species to huge, beautiful boas and pythons!
