Apple pie is a holiday staple and easy to make. 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 cup packed brown sugar 3/4 cup butter or margarine, melted 1/2 cup quick-cooking oats FILLING: 2/3 cup sugar 3 tbs. cornstarch 1 1/4 cups water 3 cups peeled, diced tart apples 1 tsp. vanilla extract

1. Combine the flour, brown sugar, butter and oats. Reserve 1 cup for topping. 2. Press remaining crumb mixture into an ungreased 9-in. pie plate; set aside. 3. For the filling, combine sugar, cornstarch and water in a saucepan until smooth; bring to a boil. Cook and stir 4. Remove from the heat; stir in apples and vanilla. Pour into crust; top with reserved crumb mixture.

Instructions 1. Put flour in bowl, add shortening, and cut it in with knife. 2. When finely chopped add water to make a very stiff dough, using as little as possible. 3. Cut the butter into the dough leaving it in rather coarse pieces. 4. Chill in icebox for several hours or over night. 5. Place ball of paste on floured cloth, pat and roll out. 6. 1 cup bread flour 1 tablespoon shortening Cold water 7/8 cup butter

INSTRUCTION: 1. Work shortening into flour, first using knife then tips of fingers. 2. Moisten to a dough with cold water, pat, and roll out same as Puff Paste. 3. Dot paste with small pieces of butter, using one-third the quantity. 4. Dredge with flour, fold from ends toward centre, then double, making four layers. 5. Pat, and roll out. 6. Repeat until butter is used. 7. Roll, shape, chill, and bake in a hot oven.

Ingredients for Quince Puff Recipe

2 quinces, peeled, cored, sliced 4 apples, peeled, cored, sliced cup sugar cup water 3 eggs, separated

Instruction: 1. Cook quinces, apples, sugar and water together for about 30 minutes. 2. Pass through a sieve. 3. Put the mashed fruit in a kettle. 4. Add the egg yolks, mixing well. 5. Let cool for about 2 minutes. 6. Beat the egg whites stiff. 7. Fold them into the mixture. 8. Serve in a baking dish or on a platter when cold.
