Make It Fun (Introductory Activities, 10 minutes)

Prepare to offer one or more of the following activities as your 3-, 4-, or 5-year-olds arrive. Let one or two teachers lead activities in different areas of the room while another teacher greets parents and kids at the door. 1. Across the World What You Need: A large world floor map, strong tape, and small toy cars and boats. (Tip: Check www.amazon.com for a nice selection of world floor maps at reasonable prices. Or, you could make a simple map on art paper using green and blue paint.) What You Do: Secure the map by taping the corners to the floor. Place the toy cars on the land areas and the toy boats on the water areas. As you and the children play on the map, make the point that people use cars on land and boats on water. Read aloud some of the places where the children are driving their cars and boats. What You Say: During the activity: Come play with me. Im taking a trip across the world! First, I need a car. See? Im on land. All of this green (or brown) part is land. People use cars to drive on land. (Stop the car at the edge of the land.) Now I need a boat. Im headed for the water! See all this blue? Thats water. People use boats to get around on the water. This water is called the (insert body of water youre pointing to). Where are you going? (Continue the conversation of places and land travel verses water travel as you play.) At the end of the activity: In our Bible story today, well hear how a man named Noah needs a boat when he goes from land to water. 2. Bang, Bang, Bang What You Need: Toy tool sets, tool belts, carpenter aprons, toy tool benches,

measuring tapesanything you can find to set up a workshop so the children can pretend to build things. (Tip: Local home improvement stores often carry childrens hats, aprons, stirring sticks, and other supplies that they will donate for free. It never hurts to ask!) What You Do: Set up a toy workshop and let the children build with their imaginations. Just as you would pretend to cook and clean in a toy kitchen, pretend to measure, hammer, and saw in your pretend workshop. Talk about what you are building and the tools you need. Make sawing and hammering noises. Let your imagination be loud! What You Say: During the activity: What are you building? Can I help? I can hammer. Bang, bang, bang! I can saw too! We just need to go back and forth, back and forth, back and forth with the saw. Now lets measure. Its looking good. We need a few more nails. (Continue playing and building with your tools. Keep the conversation going.) At the end of the activity: Thank you for letting me help you build and use all your cool tools. Our Bible story today is about a man who had to build something REALLY big. Lets go see what he built. 3. Float a Boat What You Need: Lots of small toy boats and a plastic kiddie pool or a large, shallow tub. What You Do: Fill the pool or tub with just a few inches of water. You just need enough to make a toy boat float. Gather around the edges of the pool or tub and play with the children as you float the boats in the water. (Note: Never leave children unsupervised around water.) What You Say: Here I come! Toot! Toot! Make way. My boat is coming through. Where are you going in your boat? My boat is red. What color is your boat? A man named Noah builds a HUMONGOUS boat in our Bible story today.

Make It True (Large Group, 15 minutes)

After children have participated in Make It Fun, gather them for a large group time that includes an introductory sketch, a Bible story, and interactive worship. Choose an adult who relates well to preschoolers to tell the Introductory Sketch. If possible, use the same adult all year. To add variety, consider videotaping the sketch and playing the video during Make It True. A Worship Leader and live instruments are recommended to sing along with the music tracks. Encourage children to be active during worship by incorporating the appropriate hand motions found on the Web site. Smaller groups may want to provide assorted percussion instruments for children to play while singing. 1. Introductory Sketch First Look offers weekly introductory sketches on the DVD titled Wonder! Look at Gods Story. This DVD is available for purchase at the reThink store on our Web site. What You Need: A coat tree, rain boots, an umbrella, a football, and a raincoat. The Host should wear shorts, a T-shirt, socks, and a ball cap. What You Do: Place the coat tree in the storytelling area. Hang the raincoat on it. Place the rain boots and umbrella in two other parts of the storytelling area. HOST: (Enter wearing shorts, a T-shirt, socks, and a ball cap. Carrying the football, look around as if looking for something.) Hi, everyone. (Distracted and looking around) Today is going to be ... um ... its going to be a great day. Im going to this park. ... Its a big park. ... Hey, have you seen a raincoat around here anywhere? I have been looking and looking for my raincoat, but I cant find it anywhere. I may need it later today, so I really need to find it. Have you seen it? (Pause for responses.) Where is it? Its over where? Its over here? (Allow the children to guide you to the raincoat.) There it is! Finally! I have looked all over the place for this raincoat. (Put the raincoat on, and then begin looking for the boots. Sound distracted as you continue to talk.) Like I was saying, Im going to this really cool park with some friends. (Looking around) ... Were taking a picnic, and I have my football. ... Hey, have you seen any rain boots lying around? I want to wear my rain boots just in case it rains. Have you seen them? (pause for responses.) Theyre over where? (Allow the children to guide you to the rain boots.) Oh, great! Now I have my raincoat and my rain boots. Sweet! (Put on the boots.) Thank you so much. You are such a big help. Okay, football, raincoat, rain boots ... I guess Im just about ready. (Begin looking for the umbrella. Continue to sound

distracted.) There was just one more thing I needed. ... You know, this park were going to has a HUMONGOUS place for us to play football. Humongous means REALLY big, like super-duper big, the BIGGEST. I think one of my friends is bringing a Frisbee too. (Still looking around) My friends told me they would be at the park rain or shine. Thats why I am getting ready for the rain. If were going to play rain or shine, I dont want to get all wet. Hey, since you found my raincoat and my rain boots, do you think you could find my umbrella too? Its got to be around here somewhere. Have you seen it? (Pause for responses.) Where is it? (Allow the children to guide you to the umbrella.) Woo-hoo! Now I have my raincoat AND my rain boots AND my umbrella. This is what I call ready for rain. The guy in our Bible story today had to get ready for some rain. I cant wait until you hear what he had to do to get ready. Thanks again for helping me find all my stuff. See you later! (Host exists.) 2. Bible Story First Look offers a weekly Bible story on our DVD titled Wonder! Look at Gods Story, which you may choose to use rather than a live Storyteller this week. This DVD is available for purchase at the reThink store on our Web site. What You Need: A Bible, a refrigerator box, a tool belt, a hard hat, a toy hammer, a toy saw, two stuffed toy cats, two stuffed toy bears, and two stuffed toy dogs. What You Do: Make a boat out of a large refrigerator box. Cut three sides of a rectangle door from top to bottom in one of the long sides of the box. Pull the cut piece out toward the floor to look like a ramp up to the boat. Then cut a square window on either side of the door. Cut a hole in the top side of the box large enough for the Storyteller to stand up in while in the box. (Note: Place the Bible, tool belt, hard hat, toy tools, and stuffed animals inside the boat. Place the boat to the side of the storytelling area out of site of the children. When the Host exits after the Introductory Sketch, the Storyteller will push the boat out to the center of the storytelling area with the long side facing the children. The Storyteller should be very excited to tell this Bible story when he comes out.) STORYTELLER: (Hosts name) cant wait for you to hear todays Bible story, and I cant wait to tell it! It is one of my FAVORITE Bible stories EVER! It has so many cool things in it! And the best part is that its a TRUE story. (Take the Bible out of the boat and hold it up.) Everything in the Bible is totally true. Are you ready to hear a true story

from the Bible? (Pause briefly,) I cant hear you! Are you ready to hear a true story from the Bible? (Pause again.) Thats better! (Open your Bible.) In this story theres waterLOTS of waterand there are animals lots and LOTS of animalsand theres a boata HUMONGOUS boat. Theres also a man, a very good man named Noah. Noah was a good man because he loved God. Yes, Noah loved God very much. You could say that Noah and God were really good friends. One day God told Noah some super big news. God said He was about to send so much rain and water that it would flood the whole world. That means God was going to cover the WHOLE WIDE WORLD with water! Now THAT is a lot of water. But wait! Theres more! God also told Noah that he needed to build a big boata HUMONGOUS boat. The boat had to be big enough for his family and lots and lots and LOTS of animals. Now, the news about a flood covering the whole world was hard to believe. The news about building a humongous boat was hard to believe. The news about taking care of all those animals was hard to believe! But Noah knew he could believe what God says, because [Bottom Line] God does what He says He will do. And since [Bottom Line] God does what He says He will do, Noah knew animals and rain were on the way. And if God said Noah needed a boat, then Noah better get busy building a boat! (Put the tool belt and hard hat on and grab the toy saw and hammer.) Noah did everything exactly like God told him to do. He hammered. (Make a hammer motion while saying the word bang. Move around the boat like you are building it.) He sawed. (Make a sawing motion as you say back and forth.) Can you hammer like Noah? Here we go. Bang! Bang! Bang! Now saw! Back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. Good job, but were not finished yet. More hammering! Bang! Bang! Bang! More sawing! Back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. Hammer! Bang! Bang! Bang! Saw! Back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. Whew! Noah was finally finished with the boat, and just in time, too! All the animals were ready! They knew they needed to get on that boat! (Take the stuffed animals out of the boat as you name them, hold them up high, and then place them on top of the box facing the children.) There were two of every animal a boy bear and a girl bear, a boy cat and a girl cat, a boy dog and a girl dog. They just kept coming until they were all on the boat. Then it was time for Noah and his family to get in the boat. (Climb inside the boat and sit down. Look out the door.) Finally, everyone was safe in the boat and ready for the rain. And thats exactly what happened next. It rained and rained and rained and rained, just

like God said. Before long, the whole world was covered in water, just like God said. But Noah, his family, and all the animals were safe in the boat, also just like God said. God had done everything He said He would do. I think Noah was really glad he had believed what God said as he floated around in that boat safe and dry. (Lean into the children.) Heres my favorite part of the story: YOU can believe what God says too. Yes! You can believe that [Bottom Line] God does what He says He will do. Did you hear that? You can believe that [Bottom Line] God does what He says He will do! Can you believe what God says? Yes! [Bottom Line] God does what He says He will do. Now let me hear you say it. Can you believe what God says? CHILDREN and STORYTELLER: [Bottom Line] God does what He says He will do! STORYTELLER: Again! Can you believe what God says? CHILDREN and STORYTELLER: [Bottom Line] God does what He says He will do! STORYTELLER: Thats right! God did what He said He would do for Noah, and God will do what He says for you. Lets pray. 3. Prayer STORYTELLER: Dear God, thank You for the story of Noah. Thank You for doing what You say You will do. We know You love us and we can always believe what You say. Amen. 4. Worship For additional worship resources to equip your worship leaders and worship team, visit www.amberskyrecords.com. What You Need: Paper clip Memory Verse Card (from the Activity Pages on the Web site) in your Bible at Proverbs 3:5. You will also need a CD player and this months worship song, God Said So, which you will need to download from the Web site. You will also need Two by Two, available at www.amberskyrecords.com on the One Big Gulp album. Be sure to download the hand motions that accompany each song. WORSHIP LEADER: What an amazing story! God told Noah He would cover the world with water, and He did! God told Noah He would save Noahs family and all the animals, and He did! We can believe what God says, just like Noah did, because [Bottom Line]

God does what He says He will do. Tell me! Can you believe what God says? CHILDREN and WORSHIP LEADER: [Bottom Line] God does what He says He will do. WORSHIP LEADER: One more time: Can you believe what God says? CHILDREN and WORSHIP LEADER: [Bottom Line] God does what He says He will do. WORSHIP LEADER: Stand up with me and sing a new song to God. Lets tell Him we believe what He says. Lead children in singing God Said So, this months worship song. WORSHIP LEADER: You sound wonderful! I love our new song because it reminds me that I can believe what God says. Sometimes that can be hard. Thats why the Bible tells us to Trust (hug yourself) the Lord (point one index finger straight up above your head) with all (make big circles with both arms) your heart (put both hands over your heart), Proverbs 3:5 (open your hands like a book). Lets begin learning this verse together. It will help us to always trust and believe what God says. CHILDREN and WORSHIP LEADER: Trust (hug yourself) the Lord (point one index finger straight up above your head) with all (make big circles with both arms) your heart (put both hands over your heart), Proverbs 3:5 (open your hands like a book). WORSHIP LEADER: Now that you know the motions, lets do that again. CHILDREN and WORSHIP LEADER: Trust (hug yourself) the Lord (point one index finger straight up above your head) with all (make big circles with both arms) your heart (put both hands over your heart), Proverbs 3:5 (open your hands like a book). WORSHIP LEADER: One more time! CHILDREN and WORSHIP LEADER: Trust (hug yourself) the Lord (point one index finger straight up above your head) with all (make big circles with both arms) your heart (put both hands over your heart), Proverbs 3:5 (open your hands like a book). WORSHIP LEADER: Noah had to trust God with all his heart when God told him to build a boat big enough for all those animals. I mean, that was a HUMONGOUS boat! Noah believed what God said and built the boat. After Noah was finished, the animals came to him two by two, just like God said. I have another song for us to sing. Its called Two by Two.

Make It Stick (Application Activities, 35 minutes)

These activities are designed to help preschoolers understand and remember todays Bible story and Bottom Line. Offer as many of the following activities as your time, facilities, resources, and leadership allow. You may want to lead one activity at a time. Or offer two activities at once and allow half the kids to participate in each, then switch groups and repeat the activities. 1. Load Em Up What You Need: A toy Noahs Ark. You may want more than one depending on the number of children you have. What You Do: Sit with the children and play with the toy arks. Load and unload the animals. Make animal sounds. Set the ark in one part of the room and walk the animals to it from the other side of the room. Have fun! What You Say: What kind of animal is this (holding up an elephant)? Right! This is an elephant. What does an elephant say? (Use your arm as a trunk and make a trumpet sound.) Can you make an elephant sound? (Make an elephant sound with the kids.) Lets see if we can get all these animals inside this boat. Here goes the lion. Next is the giraffe. (Continue with all the animals.) God told Noah that He would make all kinds of animals come to him. Did the animals come? They sure did! The animals AND the rain came, just like God said. [Bottom Line] God does what He says He will do. You can always believe what God says. Can you believe what God says? Yes! [Bottom Line] God does what He says He will do. One more time: Can you believe what God says? Yes! [Bottom Line] God does what He says He will do. Good job! Now lets pour out all the animals and see if we can put them back in again. 2. Which Foot? What You Need: Heads and Feet (from the Activity Pages on the Web site), white cardstock, scissors, glue sticks, and crayons. What You Do: Before the activity: Make a copy of Heads and Feet on white cardstock for each child. During the activity: Lead the children in doing the Heads and Feet Activity Page. As you cut out each picture of animal feet, glue it under the matching animal head picture. What You Say:

At the start of the activity: We have lots of animal pictures, but it looks like the heads and feet are all mixed up. We need to cut out the animal feet pictures and glue them under the matching animal head pictures. Do you think we can do it? (Pause for responses.) I know we can! As you match the heads and feet: The pig feet go under the pig head. Noah had pigs on the ark. The bear feet go under the bear head. Noah had bears on the ark. (Continue with each animal.) At the end of the activity: What are some other animals Noah would have had on the ark? (Allow the children to name some animals. Prompt them with some of your own.) Noah had all kinds of animals on the ark because God did what He said He would do. God sent all the animals to Noah so they would be safe from the water. We can always believe what God says, even when it sounds like it could NEVER happen, because God is able to do anything. Can you believe what God says? [Bottom Line] God does what He says He will do. 3. Build a Boat What You Need: Ark (from the Activity Pages on the Web site), white cardstock, washable markers, and animal stickers. What You Do: Allow the children to color and put animal stickers on their ark. As you decorate and create together, talk about Noahs story. What You Say: At the start of the activity: Noah loved God, and God loved Noah. God told Noah that He was going to cover the whole wide world with water. God wanted to keep Noah safe, so He told Noah how to build a boat big enough to hold his family and all the animals. Were going to color our own boats today. At the end of the activity: Hold your boats way up high. Wow! Your boats look amazing! Now put them in your lap. You did a very good job making your boats. Noah did a very good job building his boat, too. He did exactly what God told him to do, even though it sounded very strange to build a boat that big, that God was going to cover the whole wide world with water, and that all those animals were going on the boat. Do you know why Noah did what God said? Noah did what God said because he believed [Bottom Line] God does what He says He will do. Can you believe what God says? [Bottom Line] God does what He says He will do. 4. Toss It, Say It What You Need: A Bible, an inflatable world globe, a CD player, and Julys monthly

song. What You Do: Stand in a circle with the children. When the music plays, pass the ball to one another while standing in the circle. When the music stops, hold the globe and say Proverbs 3:5 together. Continue playing the music, passing the globe, stopping the music, and saying the verse as long as the children are interested. (Note: Vary how you say the verse. Say it loudly. Whisper it. Use a squeaky mouse voice or a booming bear voice. Say it quickly. Say it slowly.) What You Say: At the start of the activity: (Holding the globe) God told Noah He was going to cover the whole wide world with water. What a CRAZY idea! No one can cover the whole wide world with water! No one except for God, that is. God can do anything, and Noah trusted and believed that [Bottom Line] God does what He says He will do. We can trust and believe that [Bottom Line] God does what He says He will do, too. (Set the globe aside and open the Bible.) Our Bible verse says, Trust the Lord with all your heart, Proverbs 3:5. I have a game that will help us learn this verse so we can always trust and believe what God says, just like Noah did. During the activity: Trust the Lord with all your heart, Proverbs 3:5. At the end of the activity: God loves you, and God loves me. Who loves you? [Basic Truth] God loves me! Thats right. And because God loves us, we can trust Him with ALL our heart. We can trust and believe that [Bottom Line] God does what He says He will do. Can you believe what God says? [Bottom Line] God does what He says He will do. 5. Whats My Name? What You Need: An assortment of books with pictures of all kinds of different animals. Make sure you choose books with large, colorful pictures that children will be interested in looking at. What You Do: Sit with the children and look through the books together. Point to different animals and say their names. After you have identified several animals, go back and ask the children to name them again. Explain that God made all kinds of animals and they were ALL on the ark. What You Say: During the activity: Ooh, look at this koala bear. Isnt he cute? Can you say koala? What about this one? This is a peacock. What colorful feathers. (Continue to name and talk about the different animals.)

Make It Real (Small Groups, 5 minutes)

Make It Real is designed to help preschoolers understand how the Bottom Line applies to them. Theyll discuss real-life experiences and share prayer requests. Divide kids into small groups of about five to eight children with each leader. Ideally, assign the same small group leader to the same group of preschoolers for the entire year. 1. Small Group Time What You Need: Paper clip Memory Verse Card (from the Activity Pages on the Web site) in your Bible at Proverbs 3:5. Provide a journal and a fun-shaped pen for each small group. You will also need a rubber heart stamp and a red ink pad. SMALL GROUP LEADER (SGL): We heard an AMAZING Bible story about Noah today. Noah trusted God with all his heart. He believed everything God said. We can believe what God says, too. Lets look up our new Bible verse together. (Open the Bible to Proverbs 3:5.) It says Trust the Lord with all your heart, Proverbs 3:5. You can trust God and believe what He says. Do you remember why you can believe what God says? Because [Bottom Line] God does what He says He will do. Can you believe what God says? CHILDREN and SGL: [Bottom Line] God does what He says He will do! SGL: I have a heart stamp. I am going to write each of your names in our journal. When I say your name, I want you to put a heart stamp right beside by your name and then say, Trust the Lord with all your heart. (Write the childrens names in your journal. Call their names out one at a time. As they put a heart stamp by their name, help them say, Trust the Lord with all your heart. SGL: Lets pray. 2. Prayer SGL: Dear God, thank You for always doing what You say you will do. Help us to trust You with all our hearts. We love You, God. Amen. 3.
