Social Learner Ive known for a long time that I have a strong social style; I feel I can communicate well with people, both verbally and non-verbally. I find people listen to me and come to me for advice. I try to be sensitive to their motivations, feelings or moods. I also look at others points of views. As a (former) financial counselor, an EEO counselor and a certified Mediator I enjoy mentoring or counseling others.

I noticed I often bounce my thoughts off other people and listening to how they respond. I prefer to work through issues, ideas and problems with a group; and enjoy working with a synergistic group of people. Working in groups to practice behaviors or procedures help me understand how to deal with variations. This is a trait that works particularly well in a social setting because I see thing as a case-by-case basis and not one size fits all problem solving. Knowing the type of learner you are and those you are trying to teach or inform helps because it helps you cater to their specific style achieving total comprehension. According to the assessment these might be statements I might say. Which ironically I DO (the ones highlighted in PINK are my FAVS)!

Lets work together on this.

Help me understand this. Lets pull some people together to discuss. Lets explore our options.

We can work it out. Tell me what you are thinking.

Aural Learner As an aural learner, I MUST work with sound and music. I have a good sense of pitch and rhythm. Many say I can sing (I enjoy Karaoke), and I play the piano by ear (not very well either). Certain music invokes strong emotions. I noticed I must have music playing in the background in order to be productive. This can be great for me; unfortunately not all of my coworkers enjoy the sound of music while working. I often find myself humming or tapping a song or jingle, or a theme or jingle pops into your head without prompting. Again, according to the test these are thing I might say:

That sounds about right. That rings a bell. Its coming through loud and clear.

Tune in to what Im saying Clear as a bell. Thats music to my ears.

Conclusion Understanding me and how I might possibly react to certain situations only strengthens my abilities to control possible outcomes. As a manager, being a social learner gives me an advantage to assess situations well and look at where the other may be coming from. Loving music helps me process things in a manner I can understand. This test was a great tool to see where I stand today. This was FUN!
