Why Procure Locally?

Local procurement significantly contributes to economic growth and recovery. In fact, it is the most efficient way of including the private sector in the international assistance effort. By strengthening linkages between buyers and local suppliers operating in the Haitian private sector, local procurement creates jobs, improves long-term economic growth and facilitates increased access to locally available goods and services. Since August 2009, Peace Dividend Trust has operated the Peace Dividend Marketplace - Haiti project to channel the international communitys local procurement activities so that money is spent in Haiti, not just on Haiti. This is accomplished through a targeted suite of business development services aimed at increasing the positive distributional impact of the international presence in Haiti. To better help you access the Haitian marketplace, this snapshot highlights specific information about our Matchmaking, Tender Distribution and Business Portal Services respectively.

Business Matchmaking

Matchmaking services create linkages between local suppliers and international buyers operating in Haiti by helping procurement officers identify suppliers that are properly verified, legally registered and operational in the Haitian marketplace. The Haiti Marketplace Project provides on-demand vendor identification, sectoral and regional assessments, support to promotional events, seminars, and other opportunities that bridge local supply with demand.

Tender Distribution Services

To publicize their requirements to Haitian suppliers, buyers can use the Tender Distribution Service. The Tender Distribution Service disseminates tenders, Request for Proposals, Request for Quotations and other opportunities to registered local businesses via the Haiti Business Portal (www.haiti.buildingmarkets.org/tenders) through targeted text message and email notications. To post your tender on our tender directory, please send an email with the attached tender document to appeldoffreshaiti@pdtglobal.org.

The Business Portal

The Business Portal is the online mechanism that enables buyers and suppliers to navigate the local marketplace. The PDM-H business portal currently lists over 2,500 local suppliers operating across 27 sectors. The Business Portal also lists tender notifications, news on upcoming and past events, trade fairs, success stories and other information on the local marketplace.
