"You Are Not Your Body."

The Ultimate Self Realization Course (#A1)
My dear Student, Please accept my blessings. Today we are going to discuss what is absolutely the most important understanding for one who wants to achieve spiritual enlightenment. That is the understanding that you are not your body. Please now lay aside all other thoughts and concerns and deeply consider and contemplate the following points. How can we understand that we are not our bodies? My spiritual master, Srila Prabhupada, has explained it in this way, "One can perceive one's self-identification and feel positively that he exists. He may not feel it very abruptly, but by using a little intelligence, he can feel that he is not the body. He can feel that the hand, the leg, the head, the hair and the limbs are all his bodily parts and parcels, but as such the hand, the leg, the head, etc., cannot be identified with his self. Therefore just by using intelligence he can distinguish and separate his self from other things that he sees. So the natural conclusion is that the living being, either man or beast, is the seer, and he sees beside himself all other things. So there is a difference between the seer and the seen." The point Srila Prabhupada is making is that there is a difference between the seer and the seen. The seer sits at a vantage point from which he or she can perceive the body. The heart beats and the breathing of the lungs can be observed. One can see that the body is engaged in many different varieties of activities. Ask yourself these questions: Are my eyes seeing, or am I seeing through my eyes? Are my ears hearing, or am I hearing through my ears? Is my skin feeling, or am I feeling through my skin? What is this body, and who am I? If you were standing by the bank of the Mississippi River and I were to point to the river and ask you what kind of water it is, you would probably say that it is Mississippi River water. But what was it yesterday? It was Missouri River water or Ohio River water. And what will be in a few days? Gulf of Mexico water. In the same way the bag of chemicals that you call yourself is in a constant state of flux. The chemicals that you think are you today were something else yesterday and will be another something else tomorrow. They are no more "you" than the molecules of water that flow through what is known as the Mississippi River. So what are you, and who are you? You are the seer, the constant factor

through so many changes of body that are going on constantly. In fact the body you have now is not the same body you had when you began reading this lesson. This concept is described very nicely in the Bhagavad-gita: dehino 'smin yatha dehe kaumaram yauvanam jara tatha dehantara-praptir dhiras tatra na muhyati "As the embodied soul continuously passes, in this body, from boyhood to youth to old age, the soul similarly passes into another body at death. A sober person is not bewildered by such a change." Bhagavad-gita: 2.13 Note: We highly recommend that you get a copy of Bhagavad-gita As It Is by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. This particular edition is the most authoritative and popular edition in the world. Studying it carefully will greatly facilitate your rapid spiritual advancement. It can be purchased from us by clicking on the following link: Click here for Bhagavad-gita When you were a small child the body you had was quite different from the one you have now, but yet you can remember experiences you had then. The chemicals that made up that body are long gone, but yet there is a nonmaterial seer of the activities of the body that can remember those past experiences. Are you convinced now that you are not your body? If so, you should now write a paper describing this concept. You may repeat in your own words what has been described here as well as give your own personal realizations. Save the paper as an important milestone on your path of spiritual enlightenment. VERY IMPORTANT: If you are not yet convinced that you are not your body you need to carefully study Chapter Two of the Bhagavad-gita As It Is. If you don't yet have a copy or yet in spite of having studied it you are still not convinced, then you should phone me or email me right way for further explanation. Without your being fixed in realizing that you are not your body this entire course will completely useless. Hoping this meets you in good health and in a cheerful mood, Always your well-wisher,

Sankarshan Das Adhikari

"Why Do We Exist?"
The Ultimate Self Realization Course (#A2)
My dear Student, Please accept my blessings. The other day I had a wonderful meeting with a gentleman named Danny, who is writing a paper on "faith and reason." I explained to him purely from the standpoint of logic how we can understand what is sometimes called by theologians "the ground of our being." That we exist is of course self-evident. Otherwise how could we be reading this lesson? Consciousness or awareness is the symptom by which we can understand that we do indeed exist. But the question we are raising today is "Why do we exist?". To deal with this question we must first understand the principle that everything comes from something, that nothing comes out of nothing. Have you ever had a practical experience that something came out of nothing? No. Has any scientist ever produced something out of nothing? No. We can understand, therefore, that we indeed do come from something. We are not talking about our bodies here. We are talking about the non-material self that exists beyond our body, that is the witness and manipulator of those things occurring on the platform of the body. Of course our material bodies also emanate from that original source along with all the other material elements in the universe. Since everything comes from something and we are part of everything we can understand that we do indeed have a source. Everything we see is caused by something else that preceded it. If we could trace the chain of causality back far enough for anything we would eventually reach the original Cause of all Causes. Some philosophers argue that there could be a chain of cause and effect going on forever into infinity with no beginning point. Let's consider if this is a logical proposal by studying what is known as the domino effect. The domino is a small rectangular wooden block. If you line up a whole row of dominos next to each other and push one of them over, then with a ripple wave-like effect the entire row will collapse one after another. The first domino pushes over the second domino, that pushes over the third domino, that pushes over the fourth domino, etc. Imagine lining up an infinite row of dominos. Even with that infinite row of dominos if there is not one domino that somehow falls over without being pushed by another domino, the domino effect cannot take place. The entire row of dominos will remain standing erect. So the point is that there must be an original Cause of all Causes; otherwise nothing can happen. There must be an origin that has no origin. Our existence and the existence of everything and everyone can all be traced

back to that one original source. Everything is coming from it, but why? To answer this question we must delve a little deeper to understand what is the nature of the original source. Within the Totality we see that there are so many personalities, ourselves included. What does this tell us? Just image if I presented you with a sack of gold nuggets and you asked me where I got them. I told you that I got them out of my gold mine. When you asked me how much gold I have in my mine I answered you that my goldmine if gold-less; that it's a gold mine that has never and will never have any gold in it. You would naturally consider me crazy or a liar. How can a goldmine have no gold and yet yield an entire bag of gold nuggets? The point I'm making is this. If so many personalities are being emanated from the original source then that original source cannot be devoid of personality. It indeed must have personality, and should therefore be referred to as he or she, not it. So the original source is a person. Why is that person emanating us out of himself or herself? Since we are the emanations or energy of the original energetic source we possess the same nature as the original source, just as a drop of ocean water has the same chemical composition as the entire ocean. We can observe that our nature is that we do not like to be totally alone. We prefer to exchange loving dealings with other persons. There is a popular saying that love makes the world go around. So this is actually a fact. The original person is emanating us for the purpose of enjoying a loving relationship with us. This indeed is the very purpose of our existence. In order to become self-realized we must re-establish our long-forgotten loving relationship with the Supreme Person. When we do so we will be become completely full of all knowledge and completely free of anxiety in all times, places, and circumstances, even death. This is that state of consciousness we will attain when we reach the ultimate platform of self-realization, pure love of the supreme original person. That Supreme Person directly reveals Himself to us in the Bhagavad-gita: aham sarvasya prabhavo mattah sarvam pravartate iti matva bhajante mam budha bhava-samanvitah "I am the source of all spiritual and material worlds. Everything emanates from Me. The wise who perfectly know this engage in My devotional service and worship Me with all their hearts." Bhagavad-gita: 10.8 Note: To gain a scientific understanding of the Absolute Truth we highly recommend that you get a copy of Bhagavad-gita As It Is by His Divine Grace A.C. "Do Not Remain In Darkness. Come To The Light." The Ultimate Self Realization Course (#A3)
My Dear Student, Please accept my blessings. I am happy that you reading my lessons. I hope that you are not only reading them. My ardent desire is that you are inspired to seriously study them and ponder their profound depth of wisdom. They are not profound because I am writing them. Who am I? This knowledge that has been carefully passed down for thousands of years is profound as it is. It has remained profound because I have not tampered with it in any way. I have not added anything to it or subtracted anything from it. Just as a postal worker is legally bound not to tamper with the mail, I am obliged to give you this knowledge just as I have received it from my spiritual master. I want to reassure you that I am strictly opposed to any kind of dogmatic thinking or cultish sentimentalism. If there were any tinge of such things in this knowledge I can assure you that I would not waste your time or my time with it. From your side also you should make sure that you do not read the lessons dogmatically. What I mean by this is that you should neither blindly reject nor blindly accept what I am presenting. Accept or reject these teachings strictly on their own merit, not on the basis of any prejudices. If something is good it should be accepted and embraced no matter where it comes from. And if something is bad it should be rejected even if it comes from a source that we normally consider to be good. Consider the validity of the points I am making and carefully analyze each lesson. Cultivate an overview of how everything fits together into one flawless system of knowledge. And then implement the practical instructions that will be gradually introduced. There is a Vedic injunction, "tamaso ma jyotir gama." It means, "Do not remain in darkness, come to the light." Light means knowledge, and darkness means ignorance. So every one of us is now in the ignorance of bodily identification. The spiritual master brings the torchlight of Vedic knowledge to rescue us from the darkness. By submissively hearing from him we become completely illuminated with transcendental enlightenment. What we are presenting is the original science and the essence of actual science. It is called atma-tattva, the science of knowing and being fully who you are in a perfect relationship with the Supreme Self. This philosophical science will completely astound any thoughtful person who open-mindedly considers it. And it will fully enlighten anyone who sincerely implements its techniques. This science has been very carefully handed down to me by my spiritual master, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Therefore I am eternally indebted unto him. It has truly liberated me from a miserable, ignorant existence and enabled me since 1971 to constantly taste the

sweetest nectar of transcendental bliss and knowledge. Seeing the pathetic suffering condition of the general population I am strongly impelled to share this most wonderful gift of ultimate self-realization. Practically the entire human society is tightly bound in the false material conception of "I am this body." Therefore they cannot even begin to comprehend how they exist and why they exist. Modern day science is telling us that we are simply a combination of material elements that has gradually evolved over millions of years out of a primordial molecular soup. Even though empirically the creation of life out of dead matter is totally unverifiable we are expected to accept this concept on the principle of blind faith. Everywhere around us we see that living things are produced by living things. We see everywhere that life comes from life. But we are supposed to blindly accept that life has arisen out of dead matter without any scientific proof. To fully comprehend and actualize our own existence we require knowledge of who we actually are and how we come into being. This is easily accomplished by understanding the original source of life, the original living being, and the practical means of re-connecting with Him. Lovingly He has bestowed upon us, through the timeless Vedic wisdom, the self-realization system. This course is my humble attempt to transmit to you the incredible blessing of transcendental realization that I have received by the mercy of my spiritual master. I sincerely hope that you can take my writings in the right spirit without any sort of prejudice or stereotyped way of thinking. I hope that you will fully open your heart to understanding and realizing this knowledge. If you do so, I can assure that you will find it to be strikingly wonderful. In our first two lessons we have understood that we are not our bodies and why we exist. We have understood that since nothing comes nothing that we must originate from something. We've also realized that that something must indeed also possess personality otherwise it could not emanate personalities. Thus we've reached the conclusion of a personalized ultimate source of all energies, the Supreme Person or God, and we have also understood that we exist for the purpose of loving Him. If you are actually to develop your love for anyone then you must get to know them intimately. As long as they remain vague or unknown how can we expect to develop loving emotions for them? Therefore intimate knowledge of God is required. Although many people profess belief in God very few have intimate knowledge of God, what He looks like, where He lives, etc. The ultimate self-realization science means to fully know that Absolute Truth, that original source of all energies. This is where I am taking you if you are willing to come. Stay tuned in. More is coming next week. -------------------------------------------------------------Note: To get the most out of this course we recommend most highly as an accompanying text book the Bhagavad- gita As It Is by His Divine

"The Perfection of Evolution" The Ultimate Self Realization Course (#A4)

My Dear Student, Please accept my blessings. You have achieved through the process of evolution a very unique position within the universe. You have now reached a critical turning point in your evolutionary progress. At this point you can either continue evolving and attain the ultimate perfection of self-realization, or through misuse of this valuable human form of life you can devolve back down into the lower species. The choice is yours. What you do now is fully under your control. You are absolutely the architect of your own destiny. The course is being presented to convince you to continue evolving and, if you choose to do that, to give you the necessary tools to do so. The concept of evolution was clearly delineated in the ancient Vedic wisdom of India thousands and thousands of years before Charles Darwin presented his version of it. Mr. Darwin, however, deviated from the Vedic description. He presented a theory that the various life forms are evolving from lower life forms to higher or more developed life forms. At the time he presented his theory there was no proof of one species transforming into another one. He hoped that in the future his theory could be proven through archeological discoveries. To date the so-called missing link that demonstrates one species evolving into another has not yet been discovered. His theory remains that, simply a theory. It has never been proven to be a fact. In the Vedic evolutionary science we understand and experience first hand how we are changing bodies in this lifetime from babyhood, to youth, to middle age, and to old age. We experience the momentum and witness the universal nature of the change of bodies as the soul moves along his or her karmic pathway either evolving or devolving. You can see in the faces of advanced spiritualists how they are becoming brighter and more illuminated as they expand their consciousness more and more. Such enlightened souls are preparing themselves for an eternal future of what is known as super-consciousness or Krishna consciousness. In such a state they are absolutely liberated from all the sufferings of material existence. And you can see in the faces of the grossly ignorant how dull they are and how they are preparing themselves for a lower birth the next time around. The actual evolution as described in the Vedas is a process of the soul, the animating principle within the body, transmigrating not only within this lifetime but also at the time of death from one life form to another one. With each successive birth and death the soul gradually takes on higher and higher or more conscious life forms. This continues until the soul reaches the human form at which time he or she has the choice to either continue

evolving or to go back down again to the lower forms. The actual fact is that the different forms are already there from the very beginning of the universe. The forms do not evolve. They are all already preexisting from day one. It is the soul that gradually takes on higher and higher forms according to the law of karma. In the Vedic paradigm we understand the soul and the body are different. The soul is the living force that animates the body, that would otherwise simply be a lump of dead matter if the soul or atma were not present. In either case, whether we accept Darwinian evolution or Vedic evolution we can still understand that we have evolved to a very high position on the evolutionary ladder. Everywhere in all kinds of organizations we always see that higher position means greater responsibility. The same principle holds true in the organized system of the universe. So what is our greater responsibility now that we've reached the human form of life? This is described in the Brahma-sutra: Athato brahma jijnasa "Now that you evolved to this human form your are meant to inquire about the Absolute Truth to perfect your evolutionary development." In this connection His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada has explained in his introduction to the Bhagavad-gita As It Is (page 7): Out of so many human beings who are suffering, there are a few who are actually inquiring about their position, as to what they are, why they are put into this awkward position and so on. Unless one is awakened to this position of questioning his suffering, unless he realizes that he doesn't want suffering but rather wants to make a solution to all suffering, then one is not to be considered a perfect human being. Humanity begins when this sort of inquiry is awakened in one's mind. In the Brahma-sutra this inquiry is called brahma jijnasa. Athato brahma jijnasa. Every activity of the human being is to be considered a failure unless he inquires about the nature of the Absolute. Therefore those who begin to question why they are suffering or where they came from and where they shall go after death are proper students for understanding Bhagavad-gita.

So my dear, !fname, I'm sincerely hoping that you will take your human form of life most seriously. To date I've had only human beings sign up for this course. So far no cats, dogs, snakes, or raccoons have been interested. Why? Because only in the human form is there developed consciousness to ponder such questions as why do I am exist, why am I suffering, etc. Now that you have got this advanced human consciousness utilize it for self-realization. Don't waste it simply running after the animal activities of eating, sleeping, mating, and defending. By the laws of karma you are going to get to your eating, sleeping, mating, and defending anyway. What you will not get automatically is self-realization. If you want that you have to become determined.

If you have that determination, I will take you beyond this material existence. Stick with me through thick and thin. If something I say bewilders your mind don't just drop the course. Ask me about it. That's what I'm here for. I can give a reasonable and logical explanation for everything that I'm teaching you. Stick with me for the long haul. Your reward will be unlimited. Stay tuned in. More is coming next week. Note: To get the most out of this course we recommend most highly as an accompanying textbook the Bhagavad- gita As It Is by His Divine Grace A.C. "I Was Blessed with the Formula for Spiritual Enlightenment."

The Ultimate Self Realization Course (tm) #A5

My Dear Student, Please accept my blessings. One of my students has written asking me if I am just repeating doctrine or if I have actually personally realized what I am teaching. Is this knowledge realized, or it is simply being dryly, vainly repeated? Of course, if the knowledge is genuine then it is valuable on its own strength whether I have realized it or not. If I give you a cashier's check for one million dollars will you question what is my net worth? No. You will take that check to the bank and cash it! How will you know if the knowledge is genuine? Truth works. If it is genuine when you apply it you will get the promised results. When I was in high school our chemistry teacher told us that when two parts of hydrogen are combined with one part of oxygen water is produced. We did not have to blindly accept this statement. We went to the laboratory and combined two parts of hydrogen with one part of oxygen in a test tube. What happened? Lo and behold, we got water! Truth works. The truth I am giving you in the Ultimate Self Realization Course works. You can take it into the laboratory of your life and experiment with it. If you perform the experiment exactly as you are instructed you will fully realize the Absolute Truth. When you realize the Absolute Truth you will be ecstatic not just for a few minutes. You will be ever-increasingly ecstatic for the rest of your eternal existence even beyond the death of your present material body. Even death will not get in the way of your ever-increasingly ecstatic realization of the Absolute Truth. The good news is that I have indeed realized what I'm speaking about. How have I been so fortunate? This is not due to any qualification that I possess. In fact I can honestly say that it is in spite of my innumerable disqualifications. I simply had the good fortune of being at the right place, at the right time, with the right attitude. My coming to transcendental, enlightened consciousness happened in much the same way as when I combined hydrogen and oxygen in the test tube under my high school teacher's direction. My chemistry teacher knew the formula, taught it to me, and sent me to the lab so I could personally experience the truth of the formula. A spiritual master, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, gave me in 1971 what he claimed was the formula for spiritual enlightenment. Although skeptical, I decided to make the experiment so I could verify the validity or invalidity of his claim. I carefully followed his

instructions, and much to my great delight, sure enough, just as he had promised, the formula worked! My identification with my temporary material body was severed and I realized my actual identity as an eternal spirit-soul full of knowledge and full of bliss. Understanding from my first hand experience the powerful reality of the formula this great teacher had given me, I accepted him as my spiritual master to be expertly guided under his loving care to ever more profound realization of the Absolute Truth. Since that time I have been diving deeper and deeper into an everexpanding eternal ocean of transcendental bliss and knowledge. I take no credit whatsoever for what I have realized. It is all the loving kindness of my spiritual master upon me. Before he left this world in 1977 he ordered me and his other disciples that we should make this enlightenment formula available to the suffering humanity. On his order and by his blessings I am making a humble attempt to do that. Those who take advantage of this gift of transcendental knowledge are indeed most fortunate. We lament that most people cannot realize what a great opportunity awaits them if they would just sincerely try to awaken their dormant enlightened consciousness. They will tangibly experience the ultimate success, the supreme knowledge, the highest happiness, and unending peace. They will be totally liberated from all miseries. It is most lamentable that practically everyone is blinded by material sense gratification and has no inclination for self-realization. It breaks my heart to see how as a human society we are entering progressively into deeper and darker chaos, wreaking more and more agony upon ourselves, upon the innocent animals, and upon Mother Earth. This disastrous state of affairs is due to complete ignorance of our transcendental nature and the underlying transcendental reality of all that exists. We are making an appeal now to the world leaders and the people in general to wake up from the sleep of bodily identification and realize the transcendental nature of the self. All we are saying is give self-realization a chance. If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. Note: To get the most out of this course we recommend most highly as an accompanying textbook the Bhagavad- gita As It Is by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. "What Is Yours To Renounce?" The Ultimate Self Realization Course (tm) #A6
My Dear Student, Please accept my blessings. Your signing up for this course was truly a very wise decision. Why? Because this course connects you with your eternal identity beyond all of the illusion and suffering of this material world. All you have to do to solidify that connection is follow the instructions in these lessons carefully. This information is so valuable we could honestly charge you multi thousands of dollars for it, but because we want to make it easily accessible to everyone we are giving it away for free. Sometimes people think that to adopt the path of spiritual enlightenment you have to completely renounce the material world. They feel that you can have nothing to do with it anymore, that you have to go to a secluded place like the mountains and spend the rest of your life in silent meditation. This is not actually true. Consider the example of the two men and the bank. One man walked into the bank to rob it. This is a criminal act. It is against the laws of nature and the laws of man. The second man walked into the bank and announced, "I renounce this bank." This means he was crazy. Since he did not own the bank to begin with, how could he possibly renounce it? If you don't actually own something you cannot renounce it. The real fact is that we don't own anything. We come into this world naked and we go naked. In the middle we make a false claim of lordship over that which does not belong to us. Since nothing belongs to us there is nothing to renounce. We simply have to give up the false position of claiming proprietorship. So, who does it belong to? That is God. Lord Krishna states in the Bhagavadgita: bhoktaram yajna-tapasam sarva-loka-mahesvaram suhrdam sarva-bhutanam jnatva mam santim rcchati "A person who knows Me as the enjoyer of everything, the owner of everything, and the best friend of all living beings attains peace from the pangs of material miseries." Bhagavad-gita 5.29 If we know Who the actual owner is and we engage everything in such a way that He is pleased then we achieve the peace of self-realization. Selfrealization means to realize who is the individual self , Who is the Supreme Self, and what is the relationship between them.

Just as the part of the body known as the hand is meant to serve the entire body, so we, the parts and parcels of God, are by nature meant to serve God. The hand may try to enjoy separately from the stomach by not giving food to the mouth, but he is causing his own destruction if he does so. If the hand, however, dutifully puts food into the mouth it will get all the nourishment it needs. From careful scientific analysis confirmed by the wisdom of the Bhagavadgita we can understand the Krishna is the Supreme Person. Therefore, if we engage ourselves fully in His service we will achieve all perfection and happiness. The art of how to do that is learned from a bonafide spiritual master. We must approach someone who is expert in the science of devotion and fully surrender ourselves unto him. You have the free choice in this human form of life to continue trying to claim false proprietorship other the temporary things of this world or honestly admit that nothing actually belongs to you. If you choose to walk the pathway of liberation then you will need a guide to help you find the path and stay solidly fixed on it. Lord Krishna sends a bonafide spiritual master to all those who are genuinely seeking knowledge. When you come in contact with the spiritual master Lord Krishna says you should inquire from Him submissively and render to him, that the self-realized souls can impart knowledge unto you because they have seen the Truth. Having such a bonafide spiritual master is the most important requirement for one who is serious about self-realization. If you can hear submissively from such an enlightened soul you will achieve all spiritual perfection. Note: To get the most out of this course we recommend most highly as an accompanying textbook the Bhagavad- gita As It Is by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. "How To Quickly Achieve Spiritual Perfection" The Ultimate Self Realization Course (tm) #A7
My Dear Student, Please accept my blessings. I'm happy to be back here with you again. I could say it's time to again focus on the science of self-realization. But actually that is not the fact. We are meant to always be absorbed in the realization of the self, not just once a week. Lord Krishna says in the Bhagavad-gita, satatam kirtayanto mam: "Always be absorbed in the trance of self-realization by chanting my names." Why should we be always absorbed in self-realization? Because life in this material world is very unstable. It can cave in at any minute. I have just heard a report that a famous actor collapsed today in the middle of filming an episode and died right there on the film set. Even though so many friends surrounded him, no one could do anything to save him. The reality is that none of us can be certain that we will live another five minutes. There is no guarantee. We can be surrounded by the finest doctors that money can buy. An entire army of bodyguards can protect us. But still at any minute the stringent laws of this material nature can finish us off. We want to live forever. That is our nature. That is why some people pay to have their bodies frozen when they die with the hopes of being revived in the future. But yet we are forced to die. This is our miserable situation. We do not want death, but yet it is forced upon us. An intelligent person will inquire, "Why do I have the desire to live eternally if I am destined to die?" The answer is that we are actually eternal spiritual beings. Death is an unnatural imposition upon the self. Why are we subjected to it? Because we foolishly misidentify ourselves with these temporary material bodies lifetime after lifetime. Out of ignorance we cling to this material covering known as the body trying to squeeze as much pleasure out of it as possible. No matter how hard we try to enjoy in this way and that, we are in the ultimate issue dissatisfied and defeated by death. However if we learn the art of how to become happy on the spiritual platform we will experience never-ending, ever-increasing happiness. This is known as the science of self-realization or Krishna consciousness. How does one attain it? As mentioned in the beginning of the lesson we can solidly fix ourselves on the transcendental platform by chanting the names of Krishna: Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare

This sound vibration is not of this material world. It is directly imported from the transcendental world, where life is eternal, full of knowledge, and full of bliss. In the Sanskrit language such a sound vibration is called a mantra. The word mantra consists of two syllables "man" and "tra." Man means mind and tra means deliver. So a mantra is a sound vibration that delivers the mind from its entanglement within the material energy. `It is the material energy that induces us to misidentify with this temporary bag of bones and blood known as the material body. Through the power of mantra we can cut ourselves loose from the shackles of bodily identification and tangibly experience our transcendental identity that is eternal, full of knowledge, and full of bliss. The mantra has to be heard or obtained from a bonafide spiritual master in order for its full potency to be unlocked. Otherwise it remains like a piece of password-protected software that we are not able to install. If it is chanted under the blessings and guidance of a fully qualified guru then one can quickly become liberated from one's entanglement within matter and become solidly situated 24 hours daily on the transcendental plane. The sincere and dedicated disciple tangibly experiences this just as one can taste a meal by eating.

"The Extraordinary Power of Mantra Yoga" The Ultimate Self Realization Course (tm) #A8
My Dear Student, Please accept my blessings. I'm always receiving emails from my students around the world wanting to know how they can quickly and easily become free of the anxieties of material life. Such inquiries are very good because the fact is that we are suffering like anything in this material world. Everyone here is subject to the miseries of birth, death, old age, and disease. We start off being born, a painful experience indeed. We're lucky we do not remember it. If we did we would be traumatized by that memory for the rest of our lives. And then we start to experience various kinds of sicknesses and diseases. As we gradually progress towards old age our bodies become more and more painful and dysfunctional until finally they become so useless we give them up by dying. And then we have to go through the whole thing again. We imagine so many other things to be our problems, but actually our real problems of existence are these four miseries: birth, death, old age, and disease. If we can simply solve these problems then all the problems of our existence will automatically be solved. A bonafide spiritual master is someone who teaches you how to become free from these difficulties. These are actually artificial impositions on the soul. We are in fact spirit-souls. We are not these bodies. For the spirit-soul there are no such things as birth, death, old age, and disease. If we can come to the spiritual platform we will no longer be subjected to these four miseries. So how do we come the spiritual platform and remain solidly fixed there? In previous ages spiritual seekers would sit down and do yoga practice. They would go to a secluded place and sit down in a rigid yoga posture and gradually reduce their eating, sleeping, drinking of water, and breathing. They would bring their mind to the point of perfect stillness and then fix it upon Lord Vishnu for achieving spiritual perfection. They would totally cut themselves off from society and would no longer care for protecting their bodies from the heat and cold or from anything else. Even if a tiger came they would remain rigidly fixed in their yoga posture without fear. There was no question of maintaining any kind of relationships with friends or family. There was no question of working a job or keeping a bank balance. The yogi would spend the rest of his life alone giving up all material possessions living off some wild berries and roots that he could easily procure in the vicinity of his sitting place. This sort of yoga system requires that one be able to live for thousands of years in order to achieve perfection. In bygone ages when the lifespan was 100,000 years Valmiki Muni followed this system for 60,000 years to achieve perfection. This system is not at all practical at this time in history. Who can guarantee

now that they will live even for 60 years? Where can one sit down undisturbed for yoga meditation? Someone will come and demand that you are trespassing on their property and that you have to leave. Even if you own the land the government will come and demand that you pay property taxes. So how can we achieve perfection in this age? In our present age, known as the Kali Yuga (the age of quarrel and hypocrisy) we are very much blessed by the self-realization system known as mantra yoga. We briefly touched on the topic of mantra last week. Now we will delve more deeply into this all- important subject matter. A mantra is a transcendental sound vibration which when repeatedly and devotedly uttered transports one's consciousness beyond this material existence into the transcendental dimension that exists beyond time and space. The Brhad-Naradiya Purana specifies that the only practical method for achieving perfection in this age is the mantra yoga system. harer nama harer nama harer namaiva kevalam kalau nasty eva nasty eva nasty eva gatir anyatha "In this Age of Kali there is no other means, no other means, no other means for self-realization than chanting the holy name, chanting the holy name, chanting the holy name of the Lord." Any name of the Lord may be uttered. There are so many names from so many scriptures: Allah, Jehovah, Christ, Krishna, Rama, Govinda, etc. One may chant any bonafide name of God and achieve spiritual perfection. Of all the different names or mantras that we may chant there is one described in the Vedic scriptures as the Mahamantra, the Great Chanting for Deliverance. This is the mantra that is specifically recommended in the Vedic literatures as being the most powerful and effective for achieving spiritual perfection in this age. Therefore when our students ask us which names or mantra that we suggest we specifically mention the Hare Krishna Mahamantra: Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare On the instruction of my spiritual master I have been personally chanting this mantra at least 1,728 times daily for the last 32 years and I can personally testify as to its extraordinary power and sweetness far above any pleasure of this material world and beyond any other mantras or names of God I have tried chanting. This takes from 1 to 2 hours daily and is done on chanting beads known as japa beads. I recommend that all of my students who are serious about self-realization should procure a set of japa beads and take up regular daily chanting. This will enable them to advance very quickly on the path of spiritual perfection. The beads can be obtained from our online store: http://www.UltimateSelfRealization.com/store It's through the power of the mantra that we are always able to remain in

constant contact with our spiritual master. This Hare Krishna mantra connects me always with my spiritual master, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, even though he departed from this world in 1977.

"Chanting Hare Krishna Covers Everything" The Ultimate Self Realization Course (tm) #A9
My Dear Student, Please accept my blessings. On 27 September 2003 we decided to bless our neighborhood's annual block party with the sweet sound of Krishna's holy names. We showed up there, set up our equipment (an electric keyboard, portable power supply, and two gigantic speakers), and proceeded to chant the holy names with great enthusiasm: Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Even though the neighborhood is predominantly Christian they loved it. A Pakistani Muslim helped us set up our sound equipment and a big crowd of Christians gradually gathered around and joined us in our ecstatic chanting and dancing. We were witnessing first hand how Krishna consciousness is the universal religion of the soul. In the Bhagavad-gita Krishna declares that He is the father of all living beings. This means that everyone on this planet is actually one big family, that we are all brothers and sisters. So when our Christian brothers and sisters joined with us to ecstatically chant Hare Krishna it was not really surprising or unusual. It is actually natural for everyone throughout the entire planet earth to chant Hare Krishna. Not only did they join in the chanting. They took turns in leading the chanting also! As we were packing up to leave one of our neighbors who had chanted with us told us about what he had done during the recent severe windstorm that hit our neighborhood. He and his family took shelter of the bathroom and prayed to God to spare them and their house from damage, which God did. But he forgot to ask God to protect the fence, which was badly damaged by the windstorm. I told him that during the time of that destructive storm in our residence many people were gathered and chanting Hare Krishna. We didn't pray to God for any protection. We simply chanted Hare Krishna. Our building was not damaged, nor was our fence damaged. Chanting Hare Krishna covers everything. Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad-gita confirms this point: ananyas cintayanto mam ye janah paryupasate tesam nityabhiyuktanam yoga-ksemam vahamy aham

"For those who always worship Me with exclusive devotion, meditating on My transcendental form I carry what they lack, and I preserve what they have." Bhagavad-gita 9.22 So is this reason we chant Hare Krishna? No. We chant Hare Krishna in the mood of giving service to Krishna, not in the mood of getting service from Krishna. But when Krishna sees that His devotees are chanting with so much love and devotion without any thought of getting anything in return He is very attracted by their chanting and personally supplies whatever they need and personally protects them in all ways. It is stated: Rakhe krsna mare ke mare krsna rakhe ke "If Krishna wants to kill someone, nobody can protect him. And if Krishna wants to protect someone nobody can kill him." So the devotees of Lord Krishna are absolutely fearless. They chant His holy names in a mood of complete surrender of accepting whatever Krishna may give them. They are not making any business deal with God that if you give me this, this, and this that I will worship you. No. They simply selflessly surrender themselves unto Krishna and fully depend on Him for whatever He wants to do with them. This is actual liberation. This is factual spiritual perfection. It can easily be achieved by anyone who wants it. It is not difficult to become fully absorbed in samadhi (ecstatic trance of selfrealization). You simply have to fully surrender yourself unto Lord Krishna as He is ordering us in the Bhagavad-gita: sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja aham tvam sarva-papebhyo moksayisyami ma sucah "Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful reactions. Do not fear." Bhagavad-gita 18.66 So we don't identify with this religion or that religion. We simply take up with full sincerity the mood of complete subservience to the will of God. Jesus Christ was a fully Krishna conscious spiritual master. He taught exactly the same principle. He prayed to the Supreme Father, "Father, not my will, but Thy will be done." What we are presenting is not a sectarian religion or a cult. It the science of how the individual soul can be fully reconnected with the Supreme Soul. We sincerely hope that you will adopt this process in full and make your life sublime. Just as our spiritual master has blessed us, we are now passing those same blessings on to you. Please take them and your life will become unlimitedly successful.

"Traveling Beyond the Movie" The Ultimate Self Realization Course (tm) #A10
My Dear Student, Please accept my blessings. This week's lesson is being written aboard a 747 en route to Amsterdam connecting with another flight to India. The flight is completely jam packed with passengers traveling from one place to another as they attempt to enjoy material existence. Before us all, like it or not, is a movie showing so many images of people who are apparently enjoying this material world like anything. It's interesting to note in this connection that this entire material cosmos is a gigantic screen on which so many flickering images are dancing at every second attracting our minds in much the same way as the in-flight movie on this 747. This material world is such a suffering situation that we are forced to invent so many fictional diversions in which everything is wonderful and everybody lives happily ever after. An intelligent person will ask, "Why am I hankering for more than this material world has to offer if this is all there is?" Such a person can understand that he or she must have a spiritual existence that transcends the laws of birth, death, old age, and disease. If we want actual enjoyment we have to go beyond the illusory enjoyment of this material world. If someone offers you a delicious bowl of ice cream but serves it to your shadow you will not be satisfied. Only if you actually eat it will you be satisfied. So we should not settle for the false shadow enjoyment of this material existence. We must come to the spiritual platform where the actual enjoyment lies. This is the great power of the Hare Krishna mantra. It cuts through the illusion. It releases us from the prison cell of illusory enjoyment and brings us into the actual realm of transcendental pleasure where happiness is unlimited and goes on increasing forever. When we take this mantra seriously it becomes a suitable airplane for carrying us back to the eternal transcendental dimension where life is eternal, full of knowledge, and full of bliss. We are not spouting off religious dogma here. We are speaking of scientific reality. This mantra has the power to transport you right now into the realm of immortality. The only price you have to pay for the ticket is complete faith in the chanting of the holy names: Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare

"Awakening the Divine Consciousness Within" The Ultimate Self Realization Course (tm) #A11
My Dear Student, Please accept my blessings. If you are looking for unlimited peace and happiness you don't have to go any farther than your own heart. I'm not referring to your physical heart. I am talking about your inner conscious self. You carry within you the key to unlimited eternal bliss and knowledge. You just have to learn how to take the key and unlock to door to higher enlightened consciousness. This course is dedicated to unlocking your higher consciousness and indeed the higher consciousness of the entire world. That treasure of divine consciousness is currently buried within you under many layers of lust, anger, and the greed-the three enemies of spiritual enlightenment. If you want to cross over the dangerous ocean of birth and death you must defeat these three enemies. By purifying your consciousness of the many layers of dirt accumulated over many millions of lifetimes your original pure totally awakened consciousness will once again become fully manifest. Sometimes my students want to know if they are enlightened or not. The mere asking of this question reveals that they are not. You may be surprised to hear that spiritual enlightenment is a only a by-product of our process. It is not the ultimate goal. Although anyone who stringently follows this course will in fact attain the supreme enlightenment we are more interested in serving the Supreme than in receiving something from the Supreme. This is the secret of quickly coming the pure spiritual platform. Develop the spirit of pure loving service to the Supreme. Material consciousness is the mood of take, take, take. Spiritual consciousness is the mood of give, give, give. Spiritual enlightenment does not come like a flash of lighting out of the blue. It comes in gradual steps of slowly, slowly uncovering one's original pure consciousness. It begins from the point of understanding, "I am not this body. I am spirit." It advances further when one understands the nature of spirit and becomes adept in the art of engaging oneself 24 hours daily on the spiritual platform with all of one's thoughts, words, and deeds. Your best friend on the path of spiritual advancement is the Bhagavad-gita. It precisely describes in no uncertain terms exactly what you have to do to be fully absorbed in spiritual consciousness 24 hours. The more you can increase your absorption, the more quickly you will advance. So the secret of rapid advancement is to become as intensely absorbed in Krishna consciousness as possible. When we speak of Krishna consciousness we are not speaking of a sectarian religious dogma or a sentimental cult. We are speaking of the universal science of reconnecting the individual consciousness with the supreme

consciousness. This can also be called Christ consciousness or Allah consciousness. The point is to be fully absorbed in loving service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead 24 hours daily. This is enacted by taking a shelter of a bonafide spiritual master, who will take into account your present life situation and guide you accordingly. The expert spiritual master knows the art of purifying you through properly engaging you in the devotional service of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. If you want to achieve perfect enlightenment you must fully take shelter of a bonafide spiritual master. In 1971 I was blessed with that greatest of good fortune. I met a bonafide spiritual master and I fully surrendered unto him. Since that time my life has been illuminated with eternity, knowledge, and bliss. My guru, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, ordered me that just as he saved me that it was my duty to save others. So I am your servant, here to lovingly guide you how you can achieve the topmost perfection. When it comes to matters of self-realization you should not at all be shy. You should become very aggressive. There is nothing more important than this human form of life. Indeed this is the only really important thing that exists within the entire universe. Don't waste your human form of life running after the cheap trinkets of this material existence. Utilize it rather to achieve the rarest gem of Krishna consciousness, the ultimate perfection.

Important Note: I am repeatedly encouraging all of my students

to study and apply the teachings given in the Bhagavad-gita As It Is by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in order to quickly and easily achieve the topmost spiritual perfection. If you are not yet doing that you are definitely missing out and prolonging your stay in the cycle of birth and death. So do yourself a favor and get a copy right now. Someone Told Me, 'You Are A Fake. The Ultimate Self Realization Course (tm) #A12
My Dear Student, Please accept my blessings. This lesson is being composed on Thursday, October 16, 2003 in the most holy land of Sri Vrindavan Dham in India. This transcendental place is beyond description. It has to be experienced to be known. Simply by coming here spiritual emotion, transcendental enlightened consciousness can be awakened within the heart. Recently someone wrote to tell me that I am a fake. I take such criticisms to be signs of the ever-increasing success of this course. It is said that the more one is successful the more one will have critics. So I am not at all discouraged. Rather I am encouraged. But the question remains, "Am I a fake or not?" In this regard please understand that my being a fake or not being a fake is actually immaterial. Why? Because if the knowledge I am giving is genuine it doesn't matter if I am a fake or not. If a postman comes to your door to deliver you a cashier's check for one million dollars will you question whether or not he is a genuine postman? No. You will take that check to the bank and cash it. If the check is accepted by the bank, you are indeed fortunate. The status of the postal worker does not matter one way or the other. So whether I am a fake or not, if this knowledge will deliver you from the cycle of birth and death then you are indeed most fortunate to receive it. I am not making up the knowledge for this course. This is transcendental knowledge that is coming in from outside of this universe, indeed from outside of this material world. This knowledge was revealed by Lord Krishna to Lord Brahma at the beginning of the universe. Lord Brahma revealed it to his disciple Narada Muni who revealed to his disciple Srila Vyasadeva. This Vyasadeva has lived for thousands and thousands of years in the Himalayan mountains. Some centuries ago he revealed this knowledge to Madhvacharya, who revealed it to his disciple, who revealed it to his disciple, who revealed to his disciple, etc, etc. Since that time this guru/disciple system has continued on and on for many generations. In this way this sublime knowledge came to my Guru Maharaja, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, through him to me, and I am now passing this same knowledge on to you. It is said that the proof of the pudding is in the eating. The proof of the authenticity of this knowledge is that actually works. It will deliver you from the cycle of birth and death, and it will enable you to directly see God face to face. I can understand if you are skeptical. This entire material world is full of cheating. It is quite natural to be skeptical. But I can assure you that if you give this scientific progress of Krishna consciousness or self-

realization a chance it will totally transform your life for the better far beyond your wildest expectations. So what can I say if out of my thousands of satisfied e-students one calls me a fake? I am not at all angry with him. I am simply sorry that he is covered by ignorance and envy and is not able to take advantage of this most sublime process. I don't take any credit for the wonderful results that my students are regularly reporting to me. It is all the grace of my spiritual master to have sent me so many nice students. My only credit is that I have not concocted anything. I have simply purely presented what I have learned from my spiritual master without any adulteration. This is why it is so pure, powerful, and potent. This is the actual secret of success in spiritual life. Find a bonafide spiritual master and do exactly what he says. Don't be misled by the sense gratifiers and mental speculators. Find out who is purely representing God and stick to that person. I have scrutinizingly analyzed this knowledge from every possible philosophical angle of vision. I have performed the scientific experiment of seriously following these teachings for 32 years. I can assure you that what I am teaching is indeed the ultimate knowledge, the highest truth. If you will seriously follow this pathway under proper guidance I guarantee your complete success in spiritual life. This will be your last lifetime in this material world. I am a lover of truth. If you can prove to me there is something higher than what I am teaching I will gladly abandon my path and follow you. I have made this open challenge for the last 32 years and no one has ever succeeded in showing me something better. "From the Radha-Damodar Temple" The Ultimate Self Realization Course (tm) #A13
My Dear Student, Please accept my blessings. This lesson is being composed on Thursday, October 23, 2003 in the most holy land of Sri Vrindavan Dham in India. I am sitting in the historic RadhaDamodar temple where my beloved spiritual master, Srila Prabhupada, resided in the early 60's before coming to the West to launch the worldwide Krishna consciousness movement. It was here in this supremely sacred room that Srila Prabhupada composed revolutionary literature for bringing about a complete transformation of an overly materialistic modern world society. With a great sense of awe I type these words into my laptop computer. So does the world need reforming? Is every living being on this planet fully happy and satisfied in all respects? Is ANY living being on this planet fully happy and satisfied in all respects, besides those who are fully selfrealized? Any sensitive, intelligent person can understand that any society, such as our present one, which becomes overly materialistic is doomed to failure. We have emphasized ever-increasing material sense gratification as the standard of the advancement of civilization for far too long. Now it's becoming more and more painfully obvious that we as a world society are committing a slow, gradual mass suicide. Sadly our society runs on the basis of economic development, not on the basis of harmonizing itself with the divine nature. Common sense and sanity have been brushed aside as we continue to pay our allegiance to the "almighty God" of money. The politicians make big, big speeches promising to solve the problems, but they are bought out by the capitalists who cannot give up their desire for more and more profit at any cost. Of course, there is nothing wrong with economic development for the purpose of keeping body and soul together. As long as we have material bodies we must provide them with food, clothing, and shelter. But we have amplified this aspect of life far beyond what is required. We're very proud of our highly advanced technological society without any realization of how deeply we are buried in this darkest of all ages, known as the Kali Yuga, the age of quarrel and hypocrisy. Practically everything is centered on the animal propensities of eating, sleeping, mating, and defending. Because we are accomplishing these in a more polished way than the animals we consider ourselves to be highly evolved. For the animals to be absorbed in this way is no discredit to them. That is their nature. They will continue in the cycle of evolution lifetime after lifetime until gradually they attain the human form, from which they then have the opportunity to escape the cycle of birth and death. But for a human

being to be absorbed in this way is to miss the opportunity of the human form of life, to miss the opportunity of going back home, back to Godhead. A human being who lives his life simply in pursuit of animal propensities will go down in the evolutionary cycle and take his next birth as an animal. Some people argue that an animal birth is very good, but they do not realize the great opportunity that is uniquely available to a living being who has reached the human platform. According to the great sages of India the human life is meant for far more than meeting our bodily demands. Human life actually begins when we question our origin, our purpose, and our destination. But it is extremely rare to find anyone who has the inclination to seriously ponder these fundamental issues of existence. It is even more rare to find someone who will dedicate their entire life to getting the answers. This course provides the answers for that most elite group of human beings and also encourages all others to come up to the platform of actual human existence. By remaining on the platform of eating, sleeping, mating, and defending we are indeed no better than animals, or we can even say, "worse than the animals." Why? The animals meet their material needs on a regular daily basis, but they do it in complete harmony with the laws of nature. We do not. We try to bend, twist, and subvert every law of nature in the book for ever-increasing sense pleasure. We human beings are meant for a higher calling. We are meant by nature's arrangement to simplify and minimize our bodily demands so that we can maximize our energy for the higher purpose of self-realization. Instead we ignore our actual duty and keep ourselves absorbed on the gross bodily platform. Sometimes we hover on the subtle platform where we rationalize our dedication to sense gratification through poetry and philosophy. This simply lengthens our term of imprisonment within the cycle of birth and death. Our natural function is to achieve unlimited happiness by fully realizing what is the individual self, what is the Supreme Self, and what is the perfect relationship between them. This is accomplished by submissively hearing from and serving a bonafide spiritual master. But we ignore our duty and simply try to squeeze pleasure unlimitedly out of our temporary material bodies. Thus we suffer more than any other species of life. One who can understand these simple truths of life is the most highly educated person in the human society, even if illiterate. Gaur Kishore Das Babaji is my great grand spiritual master. In other words, he is the spiritual master of my guru's spiritual master. He was so illiterate that he could not even sign his own name. His disciple, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur (my spiritual master's guru), was a highly learned scholar, but he did not hesitate to take shelter of Gaur Kishore Das Babaji because of his profound depth of spiritual realization, pure love for Lord Krishna. My point is that there is no academic qualification or any kind of material qualification for realizing the highest truth, which is known as Krishna consciousness. You simply must take shelter of the lotus feet of a bonafide spiritual master, that person who fully possesses Krishna consciousness. Then by his most merciful blessings you will also realize the Supreme Truth, Lord Sri Krishna, in full.

What does it mean to take shelter of a bonafide spiritual master? It means to study his teachings carefully and to sincerely follow his instructions without any deviation. You should not blindly accept his teachings. If something does not make sense you should submissively inquire to get your understanding cleared up. Challenges or attempts to defeat the spiritual master by argument will not help. But submissive inquiry to clarify your understanding will open the door to your spiritual enlightenment. The spiritual master is presenting perfect Vedic wisdom that comes from beyond this universe. If you think what he is teaching is not true that is your defect. There are no defects in the teachings. In 1971 I fully surrendered myself unto a bonafide spiritual master. Doing this has made my life truly glorious. It has brought an end to so much suffering and misery I experienced before. It has awakened talents and abilities within me that I never knew I had. In short, it is absolutely phenomenal! I know that if you do it too your life will become unlimitedly glorious. This is why I have launched the Ultimate Self Realization Course(tm). I want everybody on the face of this planet to get the same opportunity for achieving the permanent end to all suffering, the golden pathway to unlimited happiness, the ultimate self-realization system known as Krishna consciousness. I do not want for anybody in this universe to miss out on getting the same opportunity for unlimited bliss that I have gotten. Here I am in Vrindavan, India, a wonderful spiritual atmosphere. But my body is American. It is not accustomed to this atmosphere. Every time I come here I get a very bad cold which lingers on and on in my lungs with heavy mucus. But in spite of this misery attacking my body I am blissful. I am relishing the sweet transcendental pleasure of being in the association of so many sadhus, saintly people. In the morning I rise before 3:00am and chant the Hare Krishna mantra on my japa beads and then go to the temple at 4:10am to attend the morning worship. The morning is filled with kirtan (group chanting), japa, writing, and a class on that sweetest gem of all transcendental literatures, the Srimad Bhagavatam. By the time 9:00am rolls around I've already absorbed myself in 6 hours of pure spiritual bliss! Each day presents unlimited varieties of transcendental adventures in the association of so many saintly persons: such as visiting holy pilgrimage sites of Lord Sri Krishna's transcendental pastimes, bathing in the sacred river Yamuna, or for example hearing a seminar on a wonderful Krishna conscious community pristinely situated in the Brazilian rain forest. It never ceases to amaze me how by the mercy of my Guru Maharaja, Srila Prabhupada, and the mercy of Lord Sri Krishna that life can be so unlimitedly blissful. And then I remember how much the general world population is suffering and ponder how I can expand the enrollment of this course into the hundreds of millions of subscribers so everyone can experience what is genuine, lasting happiness. I cannot do this work alone. I very much need your help to expand the outreach of this course. Please help me promote it. Tell your friends about it. If they agree to join, you can go can to http://www.backtohome.com and enter their name and email address once for the weekly lesson and, when prompted a second time, for "Thought for the Day." "Beyond the Four Defects" The Ultimate Self Realization Course (tm) #A14
My Dear Student, Please accept my blessings. We are conditioned by four types of material defects as follows: 1. 2. 3. 4. Imperfect senses Tendency to be in illusion Making mistakes Cheating

Our senses are quite restricted in their ability to perceive things. We try to make them more powerful through various inventions like telescopes and microscopes, but there remains a vast unlimited domain that is not perceivable to us. With imperfect senses it is not possible to gain perfect knowledge. Our knowledge is always limited or restricted because of these imperfect senses. Therefore we don't understand even the most basic truths of who we are and why we exist. Because our senses are imperfect we have the tendency to be in illusion. We may think we perceive water when actually we are seeing a mirage in the desert. We hear an explosion in the neighborhood and think it is a car backfiring when actually somebody has just been shot with a handgun. Or we may consider ourselves to be God, but when we get a toothache we have to go running to the dentist. What kind of God is that? Of course, if we are in illusion we will make so many mistakes. Foolishly mistaking the mirage in the desert to be water we go running after it only to meet our death when we become exhausted from over-exertion. Even great, famous personalities make so many mistakes. In India, Mahatma Gandhi is considered to be a very great personality, the father of modern-day India, but he committed many mistakes. Even at the last stage of his life, his assistant warned, "Mahatma Gandhi, don't go to the New Delhi meeting. I have some friends, and I have heard there is danger." But he did not hear. He persisted in going and was killed. And then in spite of all these faults we consider ourselves to be very great. This is called cheating. We do not want to admit our weaknesses. We advertise ourselves as a great this or great that. I am Mr. Such-and-Such from

such-and-such place. I have a degree from this prestigious university. I have won this award and that award. In this way we delude ourselves into thinking we are very big persons in this material world. But the real fact is that compared to the vast totality of this material existence we are very tiny and insignificant. Where have all the great personalities in history gone? In Paris there is a statue of Napoleon with the inscription, "Napoleon is France; France is Napoleon." France is still there, but where has Napoleon gone. Nobody knows. According to the stringent laws of karma he may now be a rat scrounging through the garbage of Paris trying to get enough food to survive. Look at the example of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first leader of India after it achieved independence from Great Britain. I cannot independently verify the authenticity of this claim, but one astrologer has reported that he took his next birth as one of two dogs of a gentleman in Scandinavia. No matter what the case may be, we see that so many big, big personalities have come and then disappeared into insignificance. If we want to come to the platform of actual importance and meaningfulness there is a way of doing that. This can be achieved on the spiritual platform far beyond the influence of these four defects. How do we do that? Even though we are imperfect if we take knowledge from a perfect source then our knowledge is perfect. I may be a poor man, but if somebody gives me a billion dollars I immediately become fabulously rich. So if you can find a source for perfect knowledge and submissively hear from that source your life will become transformed. You will escape these four defects. By hearing from the Vedic scriptures, especially the Bhagavad-gita, and from the bonafide spiritual master who has mastered the Vedas we gain perfect knowledge. With this perfect knowledge we will no longer be in illusion. We will see things precisely as they are. With this kind of vision we will become free from so many foolish mistakes. Those who are spiritually enlightened by the combined mercy of the Vedic wisdom and the spiritual master never become proud. They merely understand their great good fortune and dedicate their lives to helping everyone else also achieve this greatest of all fortunes. By the mercy of my spiritual mercy I am able to make this knowledge fully available to you. Kindly take advantage of it and make your life perfect. Do not forget! If you do not as yet have a copy of the Bhagavad-gita As It Is, you very much need to be studying

it regularly to get the full benefit of this course. "Tasting the Greatest Pleasure" The Ultimate Self Realization Course (tm) #A15
My Dear Student, Please accept my blessings. Thank you for being here with me. You are very special to me. Somehow or other Krishna within your heart has guided you to become my student. I just hope and pray that you can always remain as such, that you will never give up the ultimate pathway of self-realization, the process of learning of how to fully and completely surrender yourself unto the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Sri Krishna under the guidance of the spiritual master. The secret of success on this golden road of unlimited devotion is to always remember Krishna and never forget Him not even for a second. Such consciousness will situate you in the highest bliss in all times, places, and circumstances. But you will have to perform the austerity of fixing your mind on Krishna even when it wants to go away from Krishna. In the beginning stages of Krishna consciousness you will not always taste the bliss. You will have to have strong faith in the process to carry you through the difficult times. No matter how many times your mind wants to run away from Krishna you will have to drag it back. As Lord Sri Krishna states in the sixth chapter, verse 26 of the Bhagavad-gita: yato yato niscalati manas cancalam asthiram tatas tato niyamyaitad atmany eva vasam nayet "From wherever the mind wanders due to its flickering and unsteady nature, one must certainly withdraw it and bring it back under the control of the self." We have been conditioned for millions of birth into thinking that we are Krishna, that we are the Supreme, that everything revolves around us. So now to accept that we are subordinate, that we are the eternal servants of Krishna is not always an easy task. The mind's natural tendency will be to rebel. We don't like to hear that we are not God. But higher than the mind is the intelligence. If we can use our intelligence properly we can very easily accept the obvious fact that we are not God. If we were God why would we be subjected to so many varieties of miseries against our desire? Some argue that we are God and that our entanglement within the cycle of birth is simply a pastime that we have chosen to display. But I want to end this "pastime" right now. Why can't I? If I am God I can immediately call off the power of illusion that is holding me in the cycle of birth and death. I can immediately within less than a second regain my original position as the Supreme. The fact that I cannot do this proves that I

am not God. So I should jump off the "I am God" bandwagon and learn how to become who I really am, the Lord's eternal servant. I should not try to be who I am not. Don't think that by not being God that you are missing out on so much happiness you could be enjoying if you were God. Krishna is the Supreme Godhead, the original form of God from Whom all the multifarious incarnations of God emanate, the source of all varieties of living entities, and the origin of the entire creation. Srimati Radharani is the most dear of all His devotees. She serves Him constantly with unparalleled love and devotion. Krishna, being God, is in the position of being the Supreme Enjoyer, but yet Krishna is amazed to see that Srimati Radharani is deriving more pleasure from serving Him than He is deriving from being served by Her. He is completely amazed by this. He becomes very desirous of tasting this pleasure that Srimati Radharani is experiencing. He wants to taste this pleasure of being a devotee of Krishna because He understands that this is even a greater pleasure than being God. In order to taste this pleasure Krishna adopts the mood of Srimati Radharani and becomes Lord Caitanya, the Lord incarnated in the form of His own devotee. Lord Caitanya advented Himself 500 years in what is now known as West Bengal, India. He is famous for being more merciful than Krishna Himself. In other words Krishna in the form of His devotee is more merciful than Krishna in the form of Krishna. Krishna makes a condition that first you must surrender to Me, then He delivers us. But Lord makes no such condition. Lord Caitanya is so kind He freely distributes love of Krishna with no strings attached. To invoke the special mercy of Lord Caitanya along with His associates we first chant the following mantra before we chant the Hare Krishna mantra: (jaya) sri-krsna-caitanya prabhu nityananda sri-advaita gadadhara srivasadi-gaura-bhakta-vrnda I offer my obeisances to Sri Krsna Caitanya, Prabhu Nityananda, Sri Advaita, Gadadhara, Srivasa and all others in the line of devotion. This prayer immediately helps very powerfully to make our hearts fit to very nicely and sweetly chant the Hare Krishna Mahamantra: Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare So go on chanting, go on chanting, go on chanting and all your problems of life will be solved.

"Be On The Cutting Edge of the New World Order" The Ultimate Self Realization Course (tm) #A16
My Dear Student, Please accept my blessings. It's a long and arduous journey back to the supreme perfection. But if you situate yourself in the proper association and take full advantage of that proper association the distance becomes reduced to an insignificant amount. Your rapid achievement of perfection is guaranteed. Through this course we are giving you a place where you can plug into the spiritual platform and get relief from the burning pangs of material existence. I often receive correspondence from people who confide that there are desperately depressed. I can empathize with them very deeply. I remember as a young man how my heart was devastated by an ever-increasing sense of depression and despair. I just could not figure out what was the purpose of life, the meaning of my existence. I used to wander the streets of my neighborhood in Austin, Texas crying because I was so depressed and because I knew not one soul who could understand me, who I could fully reveal my heart to. After years of intense struggle and searching I became 100% focused, "I absolutely must discover my mission in life. Nothing else has any value except for that." When I reached this degree of intensity I was blessed by God with the contact of a bonafide spiritual master. In this regard there is very nice verse in an amazing devotional literary classic written over 400 years ago in India called the Caitanya Caritamrita (Madhya 19.151). The verse goes like this: brahmanda bhramite kona bhagyavan jiva guru-krsna-prasade paya bhakti-lata-bija "According to their karma, all living entities are wandering throughout the entire universe. Some of them are being elevated to the upper planetary systems, and some are going down into the lower planetary systems. Out of many millions of wandering living entities, one who is very fortunate gets an opportunity to associate with a bona fide spiritual master by the grace of Krsna. By the mercy of both Krsna and the spiritual master, such a person receives the seed of the creeper of devotional service. As an enrollee in this course you are in direct contact with the teachings of my beloved spiritual master, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. I am not adding or subtracting anything to or from his teachings. I am simply presenting them as they are. Therefore the full potency of his teachings is coming through in these lessons. Srila Prabhupada is the most powerful spiritual master in the history of the universe. He is creating a spiritual revolution that will engulf the entire world and bring in a new era of peace and prosperity for all.

As one of the students of this course you have the golden opportunity to be on the cutting edge of the new world order which will emerge from the present confused chaotic state of world disorder. All you have to do to become one of the greatest spiritual revolutionaries in the history of the world is to do what exactly what I have done. Simply fully surrender yourself to Krishna according to the directions of the authorized spiritual master. I will personally guide you precisely how to do that by email, by telephone, and by personal meetings. Whenever practical I will travel to meet you or you can travel to meet me. I want you to take these teachings most seriously. If we simply try to be buddies with the spiritual master we will not able to achieve spiritual enlightenment. We must humbly place ourselves as disciples at the lotus feet our spiritual master and be prepared to follow whatever instructions he gives us. Then our spiritual perfection is automatically achieved. This point is confirmed in Bhagavad-gita. Arjuna was Krishna's personal friend. But as long as he remained in this mood he remained bewildered and confused about his situation on the battlefield of Kurukshetre. It was only when he gave up considering himself to be Krishna's equal and thought of himself as a disciple, a subordinate that he was able to be enlightened by Krishna with transcendental knowledge. karpanya-dosopahata-svabhavah prcchami tvam dharma-sammudha-cetah yac chreyah syan niscitam bruhi tan me sisyas te 'ham sadhi mam tvam prapannam "Now I am confused about my duty and have lost all composure because of miserly weakness. In this condition I am asking You to tell me for certain what is best for me. Now I am Your disciple, and a soul surrendered unto You. Please instruct me." Bhagavad-gita 2.7 Each of us faces our own Battlefield of Kurukshetre. If we take advantage of the blessings of guru and Krishna then we will easily cross over this dangerous ocean of material existence.

"Why 'Krishna' Consciousness?" The Ultimate Self Realization Course (tm) #A17
My Dear Student, Please accept my blessings. When my spiritual master, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, founded the International Society for Krishna Consciousness in New York in July of 1966 one of his students suggested that it be named the International Society for "God" Consciousness so that it would have a broader appeal. But Srila Prabhupada insisted on naming it the International Society for "Krishna" Consciousness because he wanted everyone to know who is God. It is a fact that "Krishna consciousness", "Buddha consciousness", "Christ Consciousness", "Allah consciousness" or "God consciousness," is the same thing. So one may wonder why we usually refer to the perfection of consciousness as "Krishna consciousness." Since God is unlimited His names are also unlimited. Even an ordinary person in this world can be known by different names. His wife calls him "Honey." His kids call him "Daddy." His father calls him "Son." And his friends call him "Frank." So surely the Supreme Person can have more than one name. So which name should we address Him by? One can address Him according to one's traditional religious upbringing. There is no harm. But if one is very keen to rapidly advance on the path of spiritual perfection one will naturally want to chant the name or names of God that bestow the most benefit. When we call the Supreme Being "God" this denotes His position as the Supreme Controller. Just like we address the chief executive in the USA as "Mr. President." But if someone is a more intimate associate they may address him as "George." One way of addressing a great person is by the title that denotes His position. But when you are an intimate associate you address him by more personal names that he finds more attractive. When it comes to the science of self-realization we must always remember that God is a person. We are not dealing with an impersonal energy. Persons have preferences. If you are an intimate associate of someone you know what their personal preferences are and you can thus please them very nicely by your loving service. In this regard God is no exception. By knowing the more intimate and special names of God that He favors we can more easily capture His attention and special blessings. The intimate associates of the Supreme Being who are the most pleasing to the Lord address Him by such names as "Krishna" and "Govinda." The name "Krishna" is the most descriptive and complete name for God because it means "all-attractive." Every quality, activity, and relationship of the Lord is another one of His attractive features. The sum total of His attractive

features is His amazingly wonderful all-attractiveness. Therefore if there is any one term that most suitably describes God it is "all attractive" or "Krishna." Sometimes it is said that God has no name. What this is actually means is that He has no one particular name. He is known by different names according to His different qualities, activities, and relationships. Just like He demonstrates the pleasure pastime of playing the role of being the son of Mother Yasoda. Therefore He is known as Yasodanandana (the son of Mother Yasoda). The Vedic scriptures prescribe that the method for achieving spiritual perfection in this present age of Kali (the age of quarrel and hypocrisy) is chanting the holy names of God. In fact all the scriptures of the world recommend chanting the names of God. For example in the Old Testament we read, "From the rising of the sun to its going down the Lord's name is to be praised." (Psalms 113:2) And then in the New Testament it is written, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:13) Mohammed counseled, "Glorify the name of your Lord, the most high." (Koran 87.2) And Buddha stated, "All who sincerely call upon my name will come to me after death, and I will take them to Paradise." (Vows of Amida Buddha 18) The process of chanting the holy names of God is a universal scientific system for reviving the dormant enlightened consciousness that is within. Any name of God may be chanted, but the Vedic scriptures specifically instruct that we should chant the Hare Krishna Mahamantra: Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare So my request to you is that you please chant the holy names of God. This process of mantra yoga, linking with the Supreme through transcendental sound vibration is the foolproof system that will enable you to realize the true purpose of this human form of life, i.e. escaping the cycle of birth and death and returning back to home, back to Godhead at the time of death. If you want to unlock the unlimited knowledge, bliss, and love that are lying dormant within your heart at every moment, the chanting of God's holy names will quickly do that.

"Disciplic Succession" The Ultimate Self Realization Course (tm) #A18

My Dear Student, Please accept my blessings. I hope you are getting more and more serious about achieving the ultimate enlightenment, Krishna consciousness. You have to get really focused now and understand that this is the sole purpose of your life. Don't worry. You can still be yourself. But now you are going to have to learn how to be who you really are, not something that the material society has dictated to you that you are. You are going to reawaken your real eternal self. You must be very enthusiastic and determined, otherwise it will not be possible for you to escape the cycle of birth and death and go back home, back to Godhead. At the same time you must be very patient because it will take time for you to taste the results of practicing Krishna consciousness. Here we are stuck in this material world totally entangled in our material desires. Krishna wants to get us out of our predicament, but He's not going to force us to come back to Him. He wants us to make the choice voluntarily. Kindly giving us that option, He has been eternally making this knowledge of self-realization available to us. He is supremely patient. No matter how many million of lifetimes we go on ignoring Him, He never gives up on us. How is this knowledge made available? Krishna offers it to us through what is known as the guru-parampara system, the system of disciplic succession. This is the unbroken line of spiritual masters that have been carefully handing down this knowledge since time immemorial. Krishna describes this system in the Bhagavad-gita: evam parampara-praptam imam rajarsayo viduh "This supreme science was thus received through the chain of disciplic succession, and the saintly kings understood it in that way." BG 4.2 At the beginning of this particular universal manifestation the first created being to appear was Lord Brahma, who directly took birth from an expansion of Krishna known as Garbhodakashayi Vishnu. Lord Brahma was bewildered to understand who he was and what his purpose in life was. But after undergoing penances and austerities to realize his identity and purpose Lord Krishna revealed everything to him. In this way Lord Brahma became the first disciple to receive the knowledge of the Absolute Truth. The Sanskrit word for knowledge is "veda" and the knowledge of ultimate reality is known as Vedic wisdom. Lord Brahma enlightened his disciple Narada Muni with the same Vedic knowledge. Then in due course Narada Muni enlightened Vyasadeva, who then compiled the Vedic wisdom in writing. Vyasadeva in turned passed this

knowledge on to Madhvacharya. In this way after many generations of gurus and disciples the knowledge was imparted to my beloved spiritual master, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, who in turn most kindly blessed me and his other followers with this Vedic knowledge, the science of Krishna consciousness. Now it is my duty as a recipient of this wisdom to pass it on to you in its original pure form. Nothing can be added or subtracted. It simply must be given to you exactly as it is. Then it will have the full potency to enlighten you, just as it did when Lord Krishna gave it to Lord Brahma at the beginning of the universe. The guru-parampara system can be compared to the Indian system for harvesting mangos. The mango is the king of all fruits. Especially in India there is no fruit as delicious and wonderful as the mango. When the time comes for harvesting the mangos a number of workers station themselves on different branches at varying levels up and down the mango tree. The worker on the top will pick a mango and carefully hand it to the worker under him, who will hand it to the worker under him, etc, etc, until the mango finally arrives safely on the ground without being bruised. If the mangos were simply dropped from the tree they would become damaged and useless. This system of carefully handing down the mangos keeps them in their original pristine condition so that they maintain all of their wonderful qualities. In the same way as the mangos are carefully handed down, the Vedic knowledge has been passed down to us free of any "bruises" or adulterations. If we faithfully accept it and apply it, our lives will become absolutely sublime and we will not be forced to take birth again in this miserable world of birth and death. This is something that you can empirically verify. Simply try applying the teachings of Krishna consciousness in your life and judge by the results. You'll be glad you did! For your information we have provided below a list of the disciplic succession coming from Krishna through Lord Brahma to the present day. In the Ultimate Self Realization Course(tm) you are receiving that exact same knowledge. This succession is especially powerful because Krishna Himself reappeared in it as the 22nd link appearing in garb of His own devotee, Lord Caitanya. The Brahma Sampradaya (disciplic succession stemming from Lord Brahma) is as follows: 1. Krishna 2. Brahma 3. Narada 4. Vyasa (lives for thousands of years in the Himalayas) 5. Madhva 6. Padmanabha 7. Nrihari 8. Madhava 9. Aksobhya 10. Jaya Tirtha

11. Jnanasindhu 12. Dayanidhi 13. Vidyanidhi 14. Rajendra 15. Jayadharma 16. Purusottama 17. Brahmanya Tirtha 18. Vyasa Tirtha 19. Laksmipati 20. Madhavendra Puri 21. Isvara Puri, (Nityananda, Advaita) 22. Lord Caitanya 23. Rupa, (Svarupa, Sanatana) 24. Raghunatha, Jiva 25. Krishnadasa 26. Narottama 27. Visvanatha 28. (Baladeva) Jagannatha 29. Bhaktivinoda 30. Gaurakisora 31. Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati 32. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada 33. ISKCON gurus (There are currently many disciples of Srila Prabhupada who are strictly following him and initiating disciples into this line of succession.)

"Flipping the Switch that will Enlighten the World" The Ultimate Self Realization Course (tm) #A19
My Dear Student, Please accept my blessings. The more you advance in Krishna consciousness the more you become ecstatic. In the material world things get boring after all a while and we busy ourselves searching out new forms of enjoyment to titillate our senses in ways not previously experienced before. However, spiritual life is just the opposite. As we invest more and more of our time and energy in Krishna consciousness we tap into an unlimited reservoir of pleasure that has been sitting there beyond our experience for so many millions and millions of lifetimes. The more that inner realm opens, the more exciting everything gets. And the really amazing thing is that you can carry on with your ordinary external activities of going to work or going to school, etc. while this wonderful transformation is simultaneously unfolding within you. You don't lose touch with reality by advancing in Krishna consciousness. You become day by day in closer touch with reality because Krishna is the underlying reality that sustains everything. This point is confirmed in the Bhagavad-gita in which Krishna states: mattah parataram nanyat kincid asti dhananjaya mayi sarvam idam protam sutre mani-gana iva "O conqueror of wealth, there is no truth superior to Me. Everything rests upon Me, as pearls are strung on a thread." Bhagavad-gita 7.7 So how does one get beyond the academic level of simply reading and hearing about Krishna consciousness and actually begin to taste it oneself? This is accomplished through the process of properly channeled loving or giving known as devotional service. Just as when we water the root of a tree all the leaves and branches are nourished, if we properly channel our loving-giving-serving propensity we can do the highest good for all in the sublime state of enlightened state of consciousness known as Krishna consciousness. Let us therefore understand what is that technique for properly channeling our energy. As we grow up the extent of our loving or giving expands. In the primary stage as children we first love our parents. Then we love our brothers and sisters. Gradually our circle of love extends to other family members outside of our immediate family. Then it expands further to community, nation or even the entire human society. That loving propensity is not fully satisfied however even by loving all of the human society. That loving propensity remains imperfectly fulfilled until we know who is the supreme beloved, the root of the entire creation. Our loving nature can be fully satisfied only when it is reposed in Krishna. Our loving propensity is meant to keep expanding more and more, but we do not

know what is the ultimate culmination of its expansion. The Ultimate Self Realization Course teaches the perfect system to love all living beings fully and completely by the simple method of loving Krishna. We human beings have failed to create peace and harmony in the world, even by such sincere attempts as the United Nations, because we do not know what we are doing. The actual solution for world peace is very simple, but it has to be realized by careful consideration. The Ultimate Self Realization Course teaches everyone how to easily and naturally love Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. If we learn how to love Krishna, then automatically we love all living beings. It is just like when we feed our belly or when we pour water on a tree's root. Watering the tree root or feeding the stomach is a scientific universally understood principle. Everyone has first hand experience of this. We all know how by feeding our belly our entire body become energized. We also know how by watering the tree's root the water becomes distributed throughout even the most gigantic tree. It is not practical to water the tree one leaf and one branch at a time. Nor is it at all feasible to feed each part of the body separately. The Ultimate Self Realization Course is teaching everyone how to flip that one switch that will immediately illuminate the entire world. Those who are not aware of this technique are missing the point of life. In terms of material necessities, at the present moment the developed nations are very advanced in so many types of material comforts, but their citizens are unhappy in so many ways. Why is that? Because they are missing the central point of existence. These material comforts alone will never make us happy. Especially we see the example of America: the richest and most powerful nation of the world. It has all facilities for comfortable material life, but yet there is so much unhappiness that teenagers take guns to school to kill their teachers and their classmates. I am appealing now to all the leaders of the world to learn the art of devotional service as it is being taught here in the Ultimate Self Realization Course. I am confident that if they can follow the sublime principles of devotional service that the blazing fire of material existence raging within their hearts will be quickly extinguished. The reason we are so unhappy is that our innate tendency to love and give has not been fulfilled despite our tremendous technological advancement. The Ultimate Self Realization course is giving the guidance how we can live happily and peacefully in this world fully engaged in devotional service, thus fulfilling all our aspirations in this life and also in the next. The Ultimate Self Realization Course does not condemn the way of materialistic life. It is simply trying to enlighten religionists, philosophers and people in the sublime art of how to love Krishna. We can live with material discomfort and at the same cultivate the wonderful science of how to perfectly love Krishna, the root cause of the entire creation. Currently we are concocting so many ways to utilize our propensity to love, but in all honesty we are missing the central point: Krishna. We are watering every part of the tree, but neglecting the root. We are doing everything to make our body healthy but we are forgetting to give food to the stomach. If you neglect Krishna you are also neglecting yourself. Genuine self-realization and realizing Krishna occur at the same time. For example, when you can see yourself in the morning it means you seeing the sunshine also. Without seeing the rays of the sun it is not possible to see yourself. Similarly, unless you realize Krishna it is not possible to realize yourself. If you want to realize Krishna the simple method is to regularly chant His names according to a daily vow on japa beads, to regularly study the Bhagavad-gita, and to

follow a few simple disciplines in your personal habits. A spiritual master is required. He will give you personal guidance according to your own set of circumstances how you can become quickly and easily fixed up in Krishna consciousness. "Rejuvenation Through Initiation"

by His Grace Sriman Sankarshan Das Adhikari The Ultimate Self Realization Course (tm) #A20
Life is very short. It can end at any time. You do not know when you will die. The human life affords you the opportunity to escape the cycle of birth and death. Therefore if you are fortunate you will take advantage of this most rare opportunity. The Vedas inform us that there are 8,400,000 species of life and that we have been transmigrating through all of them. It's not every lifetime that you get to be a human being with the opportunity to become self-realized. Self-realization has been the real standard of a successful human life since the very beginning days of this universe and even before that. When our particular universe began 155 trillion years ago the first created being, Brahmaji, made the proper use of his opportunity to become self-realized and was fully successful. When Brahmaji was born from a lotus flower he found himself all alone in a dark empty shell of a universe. He could not trace out the source of his lotus seat. Since he was born by Krishna's arrangement as the secondary creator, with the duty of filling in the universe with so many planets and so many species of life, he was naturally thinking of doing his creative work. But he could not understand how he was to do so. While thus engaged in thinking, Brahmaji heard twice from nearby two syllables joined together. One of the syllables was taken from the sixteenth and the other from the twenty-first of the Sanskrit sparsa alphabet, and both joined to become the sound "tapa" indicating the performance of tapasya or austerity. Some foolish speculators have stated that the language of God is silence. But just see, here at the beginning of the universe a divine voice was guiding Brahmaji in the Sanskrit language. He searched diligently to discover who had spoken these syllables, but was unable to find anyone within the universe beside himself. Then he thought it wise to follow the instruction and perform the austerity of absorbing himself in meditation. This he did for one thousand celestial years, which is the equivalent of 2,160,000 of our years. He had heard the transcendental vibration "tapa" from the sky and had accepted it as divine. Thus he controlled his mind and senses, and the penances he executed were a great lesson for all living beings. He was finally blessed with perfect selfrealization by Krishna being initiated directly by Lord Krishna into the Krishna mantra. Thus he became a Vaisnava, a devotee of the Lord, and was able to construct the universe. From this we can understand that if anyone wants to accomplish anything extraordinarily wonderful they should first of all become a devotee of the Lord like Brahmaji. This principle of being initiated into the Krishna mantra comes down to us in the chain of disciplic succession and is still current in the present day. As we described previously, Brahmaji then passed the wisdom to Narada who imparted it to Vyasadeva. After many generations of gurus and disciples my Guru Maharaja, Srila Prabhupada, initiated me and many others into this process of Krishna consciousness. Now we are offering the same opportunity to you. Will you take advantage of it? That is up to you.

We are not as pure as Brahmaji to be directly initiated by Krishna from within the heart, but we can be initiated by the spiritual master who comes in an unbroken line of disciple succession from Brahma and purely represents Krishna. The bonafide spiritual master initiates us into chanting the most powerful Krishna mantra for this age: Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare Through this process of initiation, which is formalized in an initiation ceremony, the disciple fully enters the pathway of spiritual rejuvenation and becomes empowered to accomplish wonderful things in this life as well as return to his or her original position in the spiritual world at the time of leaving this body. We invite you to seriously consider and take full advantage of the option that this human life affords you. You can be initiated by a bonafide spiritual master and return back to home, back to Godhead. Copyright 2002-2003 by Sankarshan Das Adhikari. All rights reserved. "Brilliant As The Sun"

by His Grace Sriman Sankarshan Das Adhikari The Ultimate Self Realization Course (tm) #A21
krsne sva-dhamopagate dharma-jnanadibhih saha kalau nasta-drsam esa puranarko 'dhunoditah "This Bhagavata Purana is as brilliant as the sun, and it has arisen just after the departure of Lord Krishna to His own abode, accompanied by religion, knowledge, etc. Persons who have lost their vision due to the dense darkness of ignorance in the age of Kali shall get light from this Purana." Srimad Bhagavatam 1.3.43 These words were spoken 5,000 years by the great sage Suta Goswami to an assembly of sages gathered in the Naimasharanya forest. That place is still there today in India, affording us the opportunity to make a pilgrimage there for our purification. It is the most sacred spot from where Suta Goswami blessed the entire material world by distinguishing reality from illusion. Suta Goswami delivered his discourse on the Bhagavat Purana, the Srimad Bhagavatam, just after Krishna had departed for the spiritual world. The most materialistic age of Kali was just beginning and there was a large gathering of sages assembled there for the purpose of holding a 1,000 year sacrifice to hold off the influence of the Kali Yuga. For the ultimate good of all people Srila Vyasadeva, the literary incarnation of God, had complied the Srimad Bhagavatam. In his compilation he had extracted the cream of all Vedic literatures and histories of the universe. He then delivered it to his son, Sukadeva Goswami, who is the most respected among the self-realized. It was presented not in written form, but in spoken form. In those days the power of memory was so great that the sages could hear thousands of verses of Sanskrit poetry and perfectly commit each verse to memory from one hearing. It was not mechanical memorization. They were able to realize also the deep inner meaning. One of the many follies of the modern day scholars is their conception that written language was introduced in history after human beings evolved from the apes and became sufficiently intelligent to draw pictures on the walls of caves. What the scholars do not realize is that tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands of years ago there was a highly developed culture on this planet that was so advanced that it did not require written language. The disciple would sit and hear the Vedic knowledge from his spiritual master and perfectly memorize and realize the sublime teachings in one sitting. After Sukadeva Goswami heard the Srimad Bhagavatama from his father, Srila Vyasadeva, he spoke it to the great Emperor Pariksit. King Pariksit was a great devotee of the Lord and the emperor of the entire planet earth. A boy named Shringi, the foolish son of a sage, had wrongfully cursed him to die in seven days. Although King Pariksit could of, by virtue of his own power, counteracted the curse, he took it as a great opportunity to renounce his kingdom for the higher purpose of self-realization. He then spent the next seven days fully preparing for death. When the word of his renunciation spread great sages and saints came from all over the

universe to bless him in his triumphant return to the spiritual world. It was decided that the best way for him to prepare for his death would be to hear the Srimad Bhagavatam from Sukadeva Goswami. So he sat for seven days with Sukadeva amidst a huge assembly of sages on the bank of the Ganges. He was so totally and blissfully absorbed in hearing the most beautiful Srimad Bhagavatam that he did not take any breaks for eating, sleeping, or even drinking water. Suta Goswami was one of the assembled sages who heard Sukadeva Goswami speak to Maharaja Pariksit. After the departure of Maharaja Pariksit to the spiritual world Suta Goswami went to the forest of Naimasharanya, and it is there that he enlightened the assembly of sages with the great Srimad Bhagavatam. We are greatly fortunate that this most illuminating conversation was carefully recorded and has been passed down to us in its original pure form. And we are even more fortunate that my beloved spiritual master, His Divine Grace Om Vishnupada Paramahamsa Parivrajakacharya A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, has published this cream of all Vedic literatures along with his elaborate purports based on the commentaries of the great realized spiritual masters of the Vaisnava tradition. It is available in the form of a 16 volume spiritual encyclopedia of 18,000 verses from our online store: http://www.ultimateselfrealization.com/store At the present moment the world civilization is very much in the darkness of ignorance completely forgetting the purpose of the human form of life. All of our energy is focused on economic development for the purpose of unrestricted sense enjoyment. If you ask the average citizen who he is, he will immediately identify himself with his material body. We are incalculably blessed by the brilliant light of the Srimad Bhagavatam to awaken us to our eternal spiritual identities beyond the fourfold miseries of birth, death, old age, and disease. If we carefully study and apply the Bhagavatam teachings under the guidance of the bonafide spiritual master we will no longer be situated in the Kali Yuga. We will be living in the Satya Yuga, the most wonderful all-blissful, all-peaceful spiritual age. And if we share this knowledge with everyone throughout the world, just as we are humbly attempting to do through this course, then we can bring a tidal wave of spiritual enlightenment to a world that is drying up in the desert of material illusion.

"The Most Beautiful Siksastaka, Verse #1"

by His Grace Sriman Sankarshan Das Adhikari The Ultimate Self Realization Course (tm) #A22
Five hundred years ago the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Sri Krishna appeared on this earth planet in the form of His own devotee to demonstrate by example how to achieve spiritual perfection. He was always immersed in chanting

the Hare Krishna mantra and traveled widely throughout the Indian sub-continent to spread this chanting process to every town and village. He was known as Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Even though He inspired his followers to write large numbers of books describing in great detail the science of Krishna consciousness, He left us only eight verses. In these verses, known as the Siksastaka, the entire philosophy of Krishna consciousness is presented in a nutshell fashion. The first verse of the Siksastaka is as follows: ceto-darpana-marjanam bhava-maha-davagni-nirvapanam sreyah-kairava-candrika-vitaranam vidya-vadhu-jivanam anandambudhi-vardhanam prati-padam purnamrtasvadanam sarvatma-snapanam param vijayate sri-krsna-sankirtanam "Glory to the Sri Krishna Sankirtan, which cleanses the heart of all the dust accumulated for years and extinguishes the fire of conditional life, of repeated birth and death. This Sankirtan movement is the prime benediction for humanity at large because it spreads the rays of the benediction moon. It is the life of all transcendental knowledge. It increases the ocean of transcendental bliss, and it enables us to fully taste the nectar for which we are always anxious." Siksastaka 1 Sri Krishna Sankirtan is the congregational chanting of the holy names of God. We glorify this chanting because it is the supreme process for purifying our hearts of the contamination that has gathered there through millions of lifetimes. It is this dirt in the heart that has always been the cause of our suffering. Because of this dirt we misidentify ourselves as being our material bodies. We are thinking, "I am a man. I am a woman. I am black. I am white. I am an American. I am an Indian." These are all false designations. They have nothing to do at all with the real self. Our actual identity is that we are spirit-souls, the eternal servants of Krishna. We existed with Krishna originally in the spiritual world as His loyal servants, but somehow or other we became foolishly envious of His position as the Supreme Lord wanting to occupy that post ourselves. We envious ones are a very small insignificant fraction of the unlimited numbers of living beings who eternally serve the Lord with love in the spiritual sky. We are a very rare exception to the rule that everyone happily serves the Lord eternally in the Spiritual Sky. Because of our improper attitude we had to be banished from Krishna's abode. We are currently in a state of exile on the outskirts of the spiritual world here in the material world. Krishna has kindly given us this most wonderful process for reforming ourselves. It is not an austere or difficult process. It is very joyful. It is simply recreation--chanting, dancing, and feasting. We can sing and dance with the Hare Krishna mantra and feast on delicious foods which we offer to Krishna with love and devotion. We can earn our livelihoods to maintain our bodies for the purpose of diving deeper and deeper into the bliss of chanting the holy names. In this way our entire lives become ecstatic. If we fill up our lives with the Lord's holy names He guarantees us that at the time of death we will re-enter His kingdom and remain there eternally. So I encourage each and every one of you to dive into this ocean of Sri Krishna Sankirtan, the chanting of the Lord's holy names. It will indeed enable you to experience at every moment that bliss for which you are always anxious.

"The Most Beautiful Siksastaka, Verse #2"

by His Grace Sriman Sankarshan Das Adhikari The Ultimate Self Realization Course (tm) #A23
namnam akari bahudha nija-sarva-saktis tatrarpita niyamitah smarane na kalah etadrsi tava krpa bhagavan mamapi durdaivam idrsam ihajani nanuragah "O my Lord, Your holy name alone can render all benediction to living beings, and thus You have hundreds and millions of names like Krishna and Govinda. In these transcendental names You have invested all Your transcendental energies. There are not even hard and fast rules for chanting these names. O my Lord, out of kindness You enable us to easily approach You by chanting Your holy names, but I am so unfortunate that I have no attraction for them." Lord Caitanya is saying here that God has hundreds and millions of names. This certainly makes sense. A person can be called one name by his parents, another name by his friends, a different name by his wife and another name by his children. If an ordinary person in this world can be known by many different names then certainly the Supreme Person can have many, many names. If someone says that God has only one name or that God has no name they are trying to put a limit on God. How can we, the limited, possibly put restrictions on the unlimited? We obviously cannot do this, but yet we try. Fools rush in where angels fear to tread. Of course, in one sense we can say that God has no name. In the sense that as He has hundreds and millions of names we can say that He has no one particular name. He's not limited to any one name. He has names according to His different qualities, activities, and relationships. Just like in the spiritual world He displays the pleasure pastime of being the son of Mother Yasoda. Hence He is called "Yasodanandana", the son of Mother Yasoda. One might ask, "If God is the origin of all how could He possibly have a mother?" Actually He does not. He is the original father and mother of all that exists. But for His own transcendental pleasure He plays the role of being a son just like an actor on the stage and He engages one of His dearmost devotees to play the role of being His mother. To make this pleasure pastime even more relishable He influences Mother Yasoda to forget that He is God and that she is His devotee. Under the influence of Krishna's yogamaya potency Mother Yasoda actually thinks that Krishna is her son and that if she does not feed Him He will die. Krishna has unlimited pastimes and relationships with His unlimited devotees and is named accordingly; therefore His names are unlimited. Just as the sun is known by many different names throughout the world according to so many different languages, God is known by so many different names in many different languages. Any of these names can be chanted without any restrictive rules in any time, place, or circumstance. In the Western world God is known by only a few names like Yahweh, Jehovah, or God. In India there is a scripture called the "Vishnu Sahasra Nam." This means "the thousand names of Lord Vishnu." The thousand names of God that it contains are just a small sample of the vast unlimited

ocean of the holy names of God. In this second verse of the Siksastaka Lord Caitanya is positioning Himself as a fallen conditioned soul like us who has no attraction for the holy names. This mood of complete humility is one of the most beautiful qualities of Lord Caitanya. It is also found in all of the Vaisnava (Krishna conscious) acharyas (spiritual masters.) They always feel themselves to be in a most fallen position, not proudly thinking that they are advanced in spiritual knowledge and realization. Of course they are in the highest state of enlightened consciousness. It is not that they are actually fallen. It is just that in their pure state of perfect humility they feel themselves to be most degraded and despicable. They take the position of being spiritual masters to lead the spiritual lives of their disciples not because they think themselves qualified, but because they are ordered to this by their spiritual masters. Such personalities are known as "uttama adhikaris," devotees on the highest level of spiritual perfection. In this state of absolute humility a devotee considers all living entities throughout all of existence to be pure devotees of the Lord except for himself. He thinks himself to be the most fallen non-devotee. Such an uttama adhikari, in order to bless the fallen conditioned souls of this material world with spiritual knowledge, assumes the mood of a madhyam devotee, a devotee in the intermediate position. The madhyam devotee makes a distinction between the Lord, His devotees, the innocent, and the demons. Such a madhyam devotee preaches throughout the world for the upliftment of the bewildered suffering souls of this age. Such preaching devotees of the Lord even though externally acting very boldly maintain in their hearts a deep sense of humility. This purity of heart gives them the strength to tolerate all the difficulties they naturally face while trying to awaken a world that prefers to remain asleep. They unlimitedly relish chanting the holy names of the Lord and dedicate their lives fully for giving the soothing shelter of Krishna's holy names to the entire world.

"The Most Beautiful Siksastaka, Verse #3"

by His Grace Sriman Sankarshan Das Adhikari The Ultimate Self Realization Course (tm) #A24
trnad api su-nicena taror iva sahisnuna amanina mana-dena kirtaniyah sada harih "One should chant the holy name of the Lord in a humble state of mind, thinking oneself lower than the straw in the street; one should be more tolerant than a tree, devoid of all sense of false prestige, and ready to offer all respect to others. In such a state of mind one can chant the holy name of the Lord constantly." This verse is the most sublime necklace of transcendental wisdom that we should always keep wrapped around our consciousness. If we keep ourselves in a very humble, tolerant, and respectful mood we can experience unlimited pleasure in chanting the holy names of God. One pure utterance of the Hare Krishna mantra is infinitesimally more pleasurable than all the pleasures of this material world lumped together and multiplied by quadrillions of times. However, if we maintain a spirit of pride or arrogance we will never taste the sweet nectar of the holy names. In fact whatever difficulty the neophyte chanter has in getting absorbed in this chanting process can be attributed to varying degrees of pride that are lingering in the heart. Of course, it's not easy to get rid of our false pride. It was the false pride of thinking, "I am the Supreme" that got us into this material world in the first place. And it is false pride that has kept us here for millions of lifetimes. It will take us some time to get free from the clutches of false pride. One sure method of curbing down false pride is to always meditate upon the deep meaning of this verse and to follow its profound advice. The first step is to consider oneself to be lower than some garbage lying on the street. Then we should consider how totally tolerant a tree is to remain standing in one fixed position through the scorching heat of summer and the freezing cold of winter. If you come to carve your initials in the tree he will patiently stand there and take it. If you come with a buzz saw to cut off one of his limbs he will not protest. Even if you come to completely chop him down he will peacefully stand there while you kill him. So just try to develop a mood of complete tolerance where absolutely nothing will ever disturb you. You can, of course, protect yourself from others who want to harm you, but you should always keep your mind very balanced and peaceful. And then we always offer all respects to all other living things without asking for any respect in return. This not only includes human beings, but the lower creatures as well. To be able to fully taste the nectar of the holy names we must be respectful to all living entities on all levels. Therefore a devotee of the Lord will not eat meat. How can you respectfully eat another living being? It is not possible. Just imagine how often others are rude to us. Instead of being angry we should learn to feel thankful that they are giving us a golden opportunity to repay their rudeness

with respect. This is not only a wonderful example to help them come to a higher standard of behavior but it very much elevates our consciousness to a suitable mindset for becoming fully absorbed in chanting the Hare Krishna mantra. I urge you to start practicing these three items as soon as possible. And then chant the Hare Krishna mantra as much as possible throughout your 24 hours. If you take my advice and seriously adopt this process you will experience the most sublime inconceivably wonderful state of happiness. You will indeed achieve the ultimate level of self-realization, pure Krishna consciousness. Let me know how your chanting is going. I am here to guide you to the supreme perfection.

"The Most Beautiful Siksastaka, Verse #4"

by His Grace Sriman Sankarshan Das Adhikari The Ultimate Self Realization Course (tm) #A25
na dhanam na janam na sundarim kavitam va jagad-isa kamaye mama janmani janmanisvare bhavatad bhaktir ahaituki tvayi "O almighty Lord, I have no desire to accumulate wealth, nor do I desire beautiful women, nor do I want any number of followers. I only want Your causeless devotional service birth after birth." This verse of the Siksastaka perfectly describes the mood of pure devotional service. Lord Caitanya so kindly came down to this material plane to teach us perfectly by His shining example how to be a pure devotee of the Lord. He has no desire for wealth, women, and followers. Nor does He even desire liberation from the cycle of birth and death. He simply desires to always be fully and purely absorbed in the Lord's devotional service. In this material world generally everyone is after money, sex, and popularity. Out the millions of people who are hankering for these only a very small handful will seek liberation from the cycle of birth and death. Lord Caitanya rejects both of these positions. He wants nothing more or less than to eternally serve the Lord. Even if He has to remain in the cycle of birth of death eternally He does not mind, as long as He can always remain fixed in Krishna consciousness. This mood of complete surrender to the will of the Lord is very nice. It's not that the pure devotee thinks that he will surrender on the condition of getting money, a beautiful wife, or followers. It's not that he thinks he will surrender to Krishna on the condition that Krishna will take him back to home, back to Godhead. No. He simply wants to go on remembering and serving the Lord in whatever situation the Lord may place him for all of eternity. Of course, it's good for us to desire to go back the spiritual world. This will inspire us to master the art of pure surrender. We must always remember, however, that to qualify ourselves for entrance into that transcendental abode we have to be fully surrendered to the Lord, not demanding entrance to the spiritual world in exchange for our surrender. As long as there is some kind of exchange required we have not actually become devotees of the Lord. We will be the devotees of what we desire in exchange for our so-called surrender. If we require any kind of reward we will not reach the highest goal. When we have no desire except to serve Krishna at that point He becomes our personal property. When we fully give ourselves to Him, then and only then does He give Himself to us. At that point He will fully reveal Himself to us. We will be able to see Him face-to-face, eye-to-eye. We will realize that there is nothing greater to be gained than His eternal association.
