EXT. ROOFTOP. GOTHAM CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT BUILDING. NIGHT. 1: BATMAN is crouched in the shadows behind the bat-signal. The rooftop is empty. BATMAN (BRUCE WAYNE) (caption) sometimes I come here just to think. I know it sound odd coming here, this is usually the last place I want to be. 2: BATMAN looks up into the sky as a flash of lightning hits the clouds. BATMAN (BRUCE WAYNE) (caption) being here usually means Im in for a rough night. Murder, Arson, break out at Arkham... all of the above 3: Rain begins to fall, hard. BATMAN does not move. BATMAN (BRUCE WAYNE) (contd) (caption) once I thought it would get easier. Naive I know but you need something to hold onto, something you think is real. In this life you cant just go home at the end of your shift and hug your loved ones. 4: The door on the roof opens, filling the night with a bright fluorescent glow. Two silhouettes break up the light. BATMAN (BRUCE WAYNE) (contd) (caption) and I wont be doing it tonight either... COMMISSIONER GORDON we are already twenty minutes behind so its getting turned on HARVEY BULLOCK come on chief, this is our case COMMISSIONER GORDON just deal with it Harvey 5: GORDON and BULLOCK make their way to the bat-signal. BATMAN is still int he darkness.
