Benjamin Low - 1005069H / MOI Assignment 1 (Act 1 of a story) Sergeant Borg Boris lay crumpled on the cold forest

floor of Kokorevka. Around him, there was the sound of spruces swaying lightly in the mild Russian winter, and snow was starting to fall. The snowfall gently woke the S.A.S soldier from his unconsciousness. As he tried to move, a stinging pain quickly spread from his abdomen to the rest of his body. He slumped himself to the ground, waiting for the pain to temporarily pass. Boris opened his eyes fully now after being awakened by the pain, staring at the azure sky above him, partially covered by the huge spruces. He tried moving again, this time with slow deliberation. With a grimace, he managed to sit himself upright. Panting, he surveyed his immediate surroundings. There was no sign of immediate danger, for now. He sat there for a few moments checking his gear, which was mostly gone, and uniform. He saw what had caused the pain, a bullet wound on his right torso had seared off part of his uniform and his flesh, whatever blood there was had already dried up. The bullet had grazed him very badly, but fortunately did not hit him directly. Upon studying his wound, Boris then remembered how he was afflicted Boris was sprinting through the trees. He turned his head back as he ran, and saw that his pursuers were still hot on his tail. Boris pressed on, trying to widen the gap between himself and his pursuers. He then suddenly made a sharp turn to his right and hid behind one of the larger spruce trees. Quickly, he leaned out of the tree trunk fired several bursts from his H&K MP5 at them. One of them was shot, but the remanding 2 were closing in on him, and firing their weapons at his general direction. Boris pushed himself away from the tree and continued leading the chase. He managed to maintain his distance from his pursuers, when all of a sudden, he twisted in pain and fell to the ground. One of the pursuers managed to get shot at Boris. They hastily closed in on him, and saw him lying on the floor motionless. They spoke in hushed voices rapidly, and reckoned that the shot had indeed killed him. They searched his still body for his gear. They stripped him of almost all his gear, including his comms radio, his MP5, his sidearm and his stiletto. Cursorily ransacking Boris rucksack produced nothing of value to the pursuers, so they left it on the ground. The pursuers then took whatever they sought and left Boris on the forest floor, trudging back to their posts... Now looking at the remaining contents of his rucksack, Boris searched around for his first-aid kit and found them exactly where he kept them. He tended to his wound for a while, and then took a long drink from his canteen. Suddenly he remembered something, and dug deep inside his bag. From the bottom of his bag, he fished out a pistol. He examined the weapon carefully, checking the chamber and ammo cartridge, before holstering it on his belt. Boris checked his watch, it was 0700 hours local time. He decided that it was time to pack and go. But go where? The sergeant could not remember where he was, or why he was here. Every time he tried to recall his memory, it sparked off a massive headache, and could not probe further into his mind. Whatever the reason for his being here, Boris felt that he had to keep moving should he want survive. So he took his pack and left. Boris went slowly for the first few kilometer, as he was getting used to the persisting pain of his wounds. He was still trying to recall where he was, or what his mission was in this place. Just as he was guessing his current location, he stumbled upon two dead bodies. Boris bent down to inspect the bodies. They were wearing the same uniform as he was. He looked into their faces and gasped. He recognised them immediately. It was Joker and Soap Tango down! Borg, two contacts to your left. Down! Keep moving! The squad continued moving in formation down the hill, with Joker and Boris in the rear, and Soap and Strider leading the way. They were ambushed by a large force of enemy pursuers probably about 40 men strong. The SAS squad was pushing their way out of the onslaught, when suddenly there was a massive explosion in front of them. Boris heard Joker yell: Run now! and started

running for his life. Smoke blurred his vision and his ears were ringing, but he ran as fast as he could away from the carnage... Joker and Soap must have been killed after the explosion, thought Boris. And thats how he got separated from the rest and escaped the same fate. But who were the enemies? Where the hell am I? What happened to Strider? Boris wondered impatiently. This thoughts were rudely interrupted when he heard gunfire. Boris laid flat on the snow covered ground and kept still. He soon saw 2 men coming quietly towards the dead bodies. As soon as they came within his range, Boris shot one of the men from his prone position. Before he could shoot the remanding man, he had already came towards Boris and kicked Boris weapon from his hands. Boris tripped the man and they were both now wrestling on the ground. Boris was soon subdued by the man. The man then took his own radio and spoke harshly into it... Russian! Thought Boris as he was pinned face down by the man who was communicating through the radio in Russian. Im in Russia. Immediately, his memories came flooding back to him. He was sent to Bryansk, in south-west Russia near Ukraine, with his team to rescue their informant. It was supposed to be a covert mission, but they were soon ambushed by Russian troops as they neared the rescue point. It was the ambush that killed Joker and Soap, and nearly killed Boris as well. Boris linked the events in his mind, they all made sense now. The 2 Russian soldiers saw him run after the explosion and pursued him. He was lucky to be alive Not anymore, thought Boris, as the Russian tapped his weapons nozzle against Boris head. He then spoke to Boris in Russian, but Boris did not respond. The Russian now cocked his weapon and placed the barrel firmly against Boris head. Boris now closed his eyes and clenched his teeth as he waited for the blow.
