The Pune Warehouse caters to 20 distributors in urban and upcountry Maharashtra excluding Mumbai and the Vidarbha region. The

confectionaries with a nationwide presence, sells 5 products in Maharashtra Pleasures, Hearts, Desires, Dreams and Aroma. The distribution channel of Xocolatl is as follows: A CFA warehouse located at Wagholi about 20 km from Pune. Sale from the warehouse to 20 distributors (this is the first point of transfer of ownership and is termed as primary sale). Distributors in turn sell the stock to retailers (secondary sales). Retailers sell the stock to consumers (tertiary sales).

The number of units in each carton and the carton dimensions. Please note that while demand is forecasted in units of the product, the carton is the basic unit of issue from the warehouse. In case of supply exceeds demand at the distributors end, the excess quantity that could not be sold by the distributor is returned. The product obsolescence, return logistics, and administrative overheads are estimated to cost 20% of the Selling Price of the Product. In case of demand at the distributor exceeding supply, the penalty of lost sales is 50% of the Selling Price of the Product. Sheets 2-6: Demand Details Demand data is provided for each of the products Pleasures, Hearts, Desires, Dreams and Aroma. They contain weekly demand observed at each distributor location for the respective product from Dec 29, 2008 to Oct 31, 2010. Please note that the demand data provided is in units and not cartons. You are required to forecast the demand for the week beginning Nov 1, 2010 to Nov 7, 2010 at each distributor location for all products.

Sheet 7: Distances This sheet shows the distances (km) between 34 locations in Maharashtra. Please note that the distance between the warehouse at Wagholi and the Pune distributor is 20 km. Sheet 9: Truck Details The dimensions of Tata 207 and Tata 407 Reefer trucks. Operational costs per km for each type of truck. Please note that Tata 407 is more economical over longer distances.

In addition, each truck incurs a fixed cost (Rs 3000 for a Tata 207 and Rs 5000 for a Tata 407 per week) if used even for a single trip.

Every truck can be used up to 10 hours a day. The average truck speed is 30 km per hour i.e., 300 km per day assuming there are no drops on the way.

A drop at any distributor typically consumes 1 hour for unloading.

Sheets 10-15: Dispatch Plans Six Sheets are provided for the participants to enter the weekly dispatch plans one sheet for each truck. The first two sheets are meant for Tata 207 trucks and the remaining four for Tata 407s. Please note that only the yellow cells are editable. State whether you will put a particular truck to use by selecting Yes or No in the cell labeled Use? All six trucks are available on the morning of Monday Nov 1, 2010. Similarly you should ensure that all trucks are available for use on the next Monday Nov 8, 2010. Enter the routes as follows: Select, from the drop down, the day when the truck is to be dispatched.

Enter the number of cartons of each product to be dropped at each distributor location. Ensure that the 2nd trip is not scheduled before the Next Available Day generated by the first trip.

Deliverables for Preliminary Round Participants are required to analyse the given case and come up with a proper allocation plan that will maximise the net profit. The excel sheet with the relevant data duly filled needs to be mailed to the below mentioned id before the deadline. A student cannot be part of more than one team One team can submit only one entry Only students of full time MBA can register There is no restriction on the number of teams from an institute Each entry should have a cover page/sheet mentioning team name, participants, email ids and mobile nos. of the team member(s) and the name of the institute they belong to. Participants shall receive an acknowledgement within 24 hours of mailing their entries
