Ambrocio, Rene Angelo Carrion, Melvin Cuadra, Camille Salazar, Charlene CE 132 PROPOSAL: Waste Water Management in Manila

Zoo Background of the Study Area Manila Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in the Philippines. With its cheap entrance, almost all people in Manila have visited it at least once in their life. Sadly, it needs improvement in terms of innovations, aesthetics and sanitation. One of the most noticeable problem in that zoo is its murky water considering the fact that they have boat rides and animals in water-habitat environment. Just like us humans, animals need clean water for a healthier living, and unfortunately they are not getting it. With its sad animals and unsanitary environment, most of the people who had been there don't consider the zoo as an attraction. Objectives Understand water flow and usage in a zoo. Understand difference in water usage of human and animals. Determine if improvements in the waste water treatment in the zoo should be implemented. Design an appropriate waste water treatment facility for the animals inhabiting Manila Zoo. Methodology To be able to achieve the objectives stated above, water usage of the animals in Manila Zoo, as well as its employees, will be studied. It is important to know the main source of the zoos effluent water because this will determine the primary content of wastewater produced in the zoo. Information regarding this will be retrieved by interviewing animal caretakers, employees and vendors in the zoo. It is also important to know the design/layout of the zoo. This is to help us know whether the zoo already has its own waste water treatment facility. Given that it already has one, which is most likely the case, then knowing the design/layout of the zoo will help us in the proposing improvement of its wastewater treatment facility. Information for this will be obtained from the administration office.
