MINERS IN CHILE Miners rescued in chile after two months of being stuck inside. Chilean president Sebastian Pinera was there along with world media to greet the rescued miners. The 33 miners were caught in a collapse on August 5 and spent 17 days in isolation. MANMOHAN AND MAHINDA RAJAPAKSA MEET Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa discussed the issue of rehabilitation of Tamils in Sri Lanka and other bilateral issues. INDIA RUSSIA TO BEGIN JOINT COMBAT Crack infantry troops from India and Russia kicked off their joint `Indra' counter-terrorism exercise on Saturday, which will involve combat drills in a semi-urban and mountainous environment.

The 10-day "battalion-level'' exercise, being held at Chaubattia near Ranikhet in Uttarakhand, involves a large Russian contingent of 257 personnel from its Southern Command, as also IL76 transport aircraft. This exercise is the third in the Indra series. While the first was held at the Mahajan ranges in Rajasthan in 2005, the second was conducted at Pskov in Russia in 2007.Though India has had long-standing defence ties with Russia, strangely enough, the armed forces of the two countries have hardly exercised together.
