Message from the Director of Entrepreneurship@Johnson

Our goal was to create a comprehensive directory of Cornell alumni in the venture capital industry. I am sure we have not yet succeeded, but perhaps we are close. While many of you communicate with each other with some regularity, we thought it would be worthwhile to allow others to have the same opportunity. If you know of other VCs that are Cornell alums (undergrad or grad) who are not listed, please let us know and we will add them to the list. And, it would be fantastic to get you back on campus to speak in classes or attend other events such as our annual Entrepreneurship@Cornell Celebration. We are also happy to post job placements with our career office and assist you in any other way we can with recruiting talent. Gaurav Aggarwal M.D., BS 94 Principal, Panorama Capital

Life Sciences Menlo Park, CA Biography Dr. Aggarwal focuses on life sciences investments and joined the firm in 2004. From 1999 to 2004, he was employed by KBL Healthcare Ventures, most recently as Vice President, where he also focused on venture capital investments in biopharmaceutical and medical device companies. Dr. Aggarwal was involved with KBLs investments in Avalon Pharmaceuticals, ISTA Pharmaceuticals, Neuronetics, and Spinal Concepts, and was a board observer at each company. He was also involved with KBLs investments in Achillion Pharmaceuticals, Corixa Corporation and Scynexis. From 1997 to 1999, Dr. Aggarwal was in the venture capital group at Wasserstein Perella & Co. Dr. Aggarwal received his M.D. from Columbia University, College of Physicians & Surgeons and his B.S. in Business Management from Cornell University. He currently serves on the board of directors of Piramed Limited and Flowcardia, and is a board observer at Innovative Spinal Technologies, Kemia and Presidio Pharmaceuticals. Neeraj Agrawal, BS 94 Partner, Battery Ventures

Enterprise Software, Internet Infrastructure Boston, MA Biography Neeraj joined Battery in 2000 and invests in software, technology-enabled services and consumer Internet/media. From a stage perspective, Neeraj invests in companies across the full spectrum, from raw start-ups to take-private transactions of public companies. Prior to Battery, Neeraj worked as a product manager at Real Networks, a management team member at a satellite-TV start-up called SkyTV and a management consultant with Booz-Allen. Education Neeraj holds an Engineering degree in Computer Science from Cornell University as well as an MBA with honors from the Harvard Business School. Board Affiliations He is currently on the Board of Directors of A Place for Mom, Applimation, LifeMed Media (dLife) and Consona (formerly Made2Manage). Neeraj worked closely with the founders to launch BladeLogic and continues to serve as an active Board observer. Eric Arnold, BS 00 Vice President, Bessemer Venture Partners

Technology New York, NY Biography Eric Arnold is a Vice President in BVP's New York office, where he focuses on the financial services, consumer internet, and media sectors. Eric serves on the board of United Capital Financial Advisers and also works closely with Hunch and Soleil Securities. Previously, Eric was a Senior Associate with Battery Ventures. Eric was also a personal investor in Stereogum, an independent music site that was acquired by Buzznet Media. Earlier, he was part of the Venture Capital Group at the World Banks International Finance Corporation, identifying early stage technology investments in emerging markets. Among his investments with IFC was Novica, a global artisan e-commerce company. Eric has also worked in the internal incubator group of InterActiveCorp, and began his career in Morgan Stanleys Merger and Acquisitions group. Eric holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, and a B.S. in Applied Economics and Business Management, magna cum laude, from Cornell University.

Bronwyn Dylla Bailey, AB 92 Research Director, SVB Capital Partners

Life Sciences and Technology Santa Clara, CA Biography Bronwyn Dylla Bailey is SVB Capital Partners' fund management research director, responsible for assessing venture capital trends, identifying strategic market opportunities and communicating this information to limited partners. Bailey has more than 10 years of experience conducting research and providing analytics for consulting engagements and academic studies. Prior to joining SVB Capital, Bailey conducted financial and economic analysis at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in Los Angeles in support of intellectual property, antitrust, and other commercial litigation. While at PwC, she co-authored a chapter on intellectual property in the entertainment industry for a leading financial reference book. Bailey was also a director at Micronomics, an economics consulting firm in Los Angeles, and advised telecommunications and media clients as a strategy consultant for Cap Gemini in London. Education Bailey graduated magna cum laude from Cornell University with a bachelor's degree in government and international relations. Juliet Tammenoms Bakker, BS 83 Founder and Managing Director, Longitude Capital

Healthcare Devices, Biotechnology Menlo Park, CA Biography Juliet Tammenoms Bakker is a founder and Managing Director of Longitude Capital. She focuses on investments in medical devices. Most recently, Ms. Tammenoms Bakker was a Managing Director of Pequot Ventures where she founded the life sciences investment practice in 1997. Prior to Pequot, she was Director, Strategic Planning and Director, Operations of Waste Management International, Inc. in London. Before that, she was a sell-side analyst at Banque Paribas in London where her coverage universe included emerging growth companies. Ms. Tammenoms Bakker began her career 21 years ago as an investment banker at PaineWebber where she focused on healthcare and emerging growth companies. Education Ms. Tammenoms Bakker holds an M.P.A. from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and a B.S. in Biological Sciences from Cornell University. John D. Baldeschwieler, MS 56, Ph.D. 59 Venture Partner, Arcturus Capital

Pasadena, CA Biography From 1973 until the present, Prof. Baldeschwieler has been a Professor of Chemistry at CalTech and for five years was also Chairman of the Division of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. Prof. Baldeschwieler began his distinguished academic research as a member of the faculty at Harvard University. In 1965, Prof. Baldeschwieler moved to Stanford University as Professor of Chemistry. During his last two years at Stanford, Prof. Baldeschwieler was on leave of absence as Deputy Director of the Office of Science and Technology in the White House. Prof. Baldeschwieler was a founder of Vestar Inc. and served as Chairman of its Board of Directors until Vestar merged with NeXagen Inc. to form NeXstar Pharmaceuticals. Prof. Baldeschwieler served as a Director of NeXstar until it was acquired by Gilead Pharmaceuticals Inc. Prof. Baldeschwieler was also a founder and Director of Combion Inc. until it was acquired by Incyte Geonomics, Inc. Prof. Baldeschwieler currently serves as a Managing Member of The Athenaeum Fund which is fully invested. He serves as Chairman of the Board of Pasadena Entretec, and as a Director of the Huntington Medical Research Institutes, as well as a director to several privately held companies. Education Prof. Baldeschwieler received his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University in 1956 and his Ph.D. in 1959 in Physical Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. Information Technology Menlo Park, CA Biography John Balen joined Canaan Partners in 1995, and serves as General Partner in the firms Menlo Park, California office. He is primarily focused on investments in information technology companies.
