Kalilangan Festival is the biggest festival in General Santos.

It is the time when the Generals celebrate its Foundation Anniversary. It got its name from the root word kalilang, which means celebration or commemoration in Maguindanaoan dialect. Kalilangan itself means festival, feastivity or jubilee. For the 72nd Foundation Anniversary of General Santos City, the Sangguniang Kabataan of General Santos in partnership with the Aim High Kabataan, will celebrate the wealth of its young people by getting them acquinted with the history that was long forgotten. Thus the conduct of the 1st SK BATTLE OF THE MINDS an Inter-School Competition. It is a Literary Competition, which includes Quiz Bee, Extemporaneous Speaking and MultiMedia Presentation. The competitions mentioned will be highlighting General Santos City its people, places and its history.

MECHANICS: WHO CAN JOIN 1. Participants must come from any private and public schools in General Santos City; 2. For High School participants may come from the Third and/or Fourth Years of the schools they are representing; 3. For College any year level can participate; 4. Only one contestant/team can represent a school,except for the Multimedia Presentation; 5. No contestants can participate in the two (2) events. There shall be three (3) contestants the quiz bee, one (1) for extemporaneous speaking and three (3) for the Multimedia Presentation. ENTRY FORMS 1. Contestants/ Schools concerned must express their desire to join by informing us through the following email addresses: - skgensan@gmail.com 2. On or before ___________. Information should include name of contestants and their e-mail addresses, schools (fax, telephone, mobile, phone of coach) address of contestants should be submitted. 3. There is no Registration for this competition.

SCHEDULE 1. Registration for all the competition shall start at 7:00 am and shall end at 8:00 am at the venue.

Elimination Round The team shall be composed of three (3) contestants. Elimination Phase will be divided into two rounds a. EASY b. AVERAGE The first FIVE teams to get five (5) points will proceed to the FINAL or DIFFICULT round. B. FINAL ROUND 1. The final round shall still be team competition composed of three (3) members 2. The final phase shall be divided into three rounds: Easy Average Difficult 3. There shall be ten (10) questions for each round Easy questions shall be worth 1 point Average questions shall be worth 2 points Difficult questions shall be worth 3 points 4. Questions shall cover General Santos City History. 5. Questions shall come in the following forms: Multiple Choice Identification True or False 6. The top three (3) teams that accumulate the most points after thirty (30) questions shall be declared the champion, first runner-up and second runner-up respectively. 7. In case of a tie, three (3) tie breaker questions shall be asked with each question worth one point. However, if the tie still exists, a sudden death question shall be asked and the team that correctly answers first shall be considered as the winner. 8. Contestants shall be given a period of five (5) seconds for easy questions, ten (10) seconds for average questions and thirty (30) seconds for the difficult ones. 9. Contestants must write their answers on a white board. Wrong spelling renders the answer wrong. 10.Any team caught in any act of cheating or any form of dishonesty shall automatically be disqualified.

11.The contestants who win the grand prize shall receive ten thousand pesos (Php10, 000); seven thousand pesos (Php7, 000) for the first runner-up; and five thousand pesos (Php5,000) for the second runnerup (plus medals and trophies). 12.Winners shall be announced and awarded immediately after the competition. 13.Judges decisions are final and unappealable. EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEAKING
1. The participant should bring proper identification materials (i.e. school ID and the registration form). 2. The participant must be present ten minutes before the event. Otherwise, s/he will automatically be disqualified. 3. There shall be two division for this contest : HIGH SCHOOL and COLLEGE. 4. The participants will know their topic on the contest proper. Topics will focus mainly about General Santos City, its history and milestone and other relevant issues concerning the Generals. 5. Each participant will be given three minutes to prepare and another three minutes to speak. 6. The speeches will be judged according to the content, delivery and impact. 7. Deductions will be given for those who exceed in the allotted time. 8. The top three speeches per division will be chosen as the Champion, First Runner-up and 3rd Runner-up respectively. Winners will be awarded with medals and certificates. All participants will be awarded certificates of participation. 9. The contestants who win the grand prize shall receive five thousand pesos (Php5, 000); three thousand pesos (Php3, 000) for the first runner-up; and one thousand and five hundred pesos (Php1,500) for the second runner-up (plus medals and trophies). 10.Winners shall be announced and awarded immediately after the competition.

MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATION

1. The participants should make a Ten(10) to Twenty (20)- minute presentation about the first Mayor of General Santos City _____________________ 2. The committee will be scheduling a one time iinterview with the Family of _____________ and a historian for the additional input/data that the contestants may use. 3. There shall be two division for this contest : HIGH SCHOOL and COLLEGE. 4. Expenses incurred during research works and other preparation shall be shouldered by the participating teams. 5. Participating teams may use any form of program for their entries (POWERPOINT, MOVIEMAKER, etc...). 6. Participants have to post their entry on YOUTUBE and submit the link on the Official FB Page of 1st SK Battle of the Minds. 7. Deadline of submission of entry is on: _______________________________________. 8. Top FIVE entry per division will be chosen for the FINAL Presentation on ________________________. 9. The TOP qualifiers have to submit in person a hard copy of their ENTRY to the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation Office at the 2nd Floor Legislative Building, General Santos City on ____________________. 10.Criteria shall be based on its content and impact. 11.The contestants in both division who win the grand prize shall receive fifteen thousand pesos (Php15, 000); ten thousand pesos (Php10, 000) for the first runner-up; eight thousand pesos (Php8,000) for the second runner-up; and three thousand pesos (P3,000.00) for consolation prize (plus medals and trophies). 12.Winners shall be announced and awarded immediately after the competition.

Note: The Quiz Committee reserves the right to make any revision of these rules. Proper notification to concerned parties however shall be made in such a case.
