Few things are more appealing to those of our generation than the promise of a guaranteed income for life. Many times I have heard someone remark, Hes got it made. He has a good income for the rest of his life. Financial security is of major importance in modern times. Early retirement with assured income, or retirement at sixty-five with guaranteed income is most appealing. Who would not like to have a guaranteed income for life? Yet there are things of more importance, and the Lord makes some guarantees. Therefore be ye stedfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord (I Cor. 15:58). Here is a guarantee from the Lord that our work for God is not in vain. Yes, the Lord guarantees to reward us for our effort. What greater assurance could one want than this? But the guarantee is not an income for life, but of eternal life in the world to come. Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; that they do good, that they be

rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life (I Tim. 6:1719). Are you trusting in uncertain riches? or is your life rich in good works? and do others know you as one who is ready to distribute, willing to communicate? Our lives should be full of good works, for these works are laying up for us a good foundation against the time to come. The Lord guarantees that our labor shall not be in vain in the Lord. Jesus said, Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth not rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through and steal: for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also (Matt. 6:20-21). You might lay up treasures on the earth sufficient to have a guaranteed income for life, but if you lose your soul, what will you have gained? (See Matt. 16:26.) Would it not be better for you to work in the Lord, lay up treasures in heaven, and have a guarantee of eternal life in the world to come? What kind of guarantee do you really want guaranteed income or a guarantee of a crown of life?
