CAIT CDMA Air Interface Tester

Evaluate Handset and Network Performance in the Lab or in the Field
The QUALCOMM QCTest CDMA Air Interface Tester (CAIT) is a real-time data collection tool and successor to the Mobile Diagnostic Monitor (MDM), which has been used extensively worldwide to analyze over-the-air CDMA system performance. Early implementation of new technologies including CDMA2000 1X, 1xEV-DO, WCDMA/UMTS, and gpsOne enables engineers to immediately begin development, testing, and optimization Comprehensive real-time diagnostic logging tool for development performance testing Reliable data for RF performance analysis

CAIT is a diagnostic tool which characterizes performance by measuring real-time, mobile-based CDMA RF characteristics, as well as messaging and protocols specified by the IS-95(A&B), J-STD-008, IS-2000(O&A), IS-856(1xEV-DO), WCDMA/UMTS (3GPP) and GSM/GPRS standards. CAIT displays statistics and diagnostic information, and allows the user to read and write non-volatile memory. CAIT is designed to operate using all commercial handsets that contain QUALCOMM ASICs as well as all of QUALCOMMs test/trial phones.* Whether conducting tests in the lab or in the field, the CAIT diagnostic tool is a powerful platform to evaluate handset and network performance.

OPERATING CAIT
CAIT, which provides complete user control, interfaces with all commercial handsets that contain QUALCOMM ASICs and all QUALCOMMs test/trial phones.* Using parameters and settings selected by the operator user, CAIT logs mobile-based binary data that can be post-processed using PCubed or other tools that read MDM files. *All phones with a QUALCOMM chipset are capable of supporting CAIT, however, the handset manufacturer may alter the interface.

F E AT U R E S Logging
CAIT allows users to log all over-theair signaling messages. Annotations can be added to log files either manually, or through CAITs user defined alarms.

Log File Replay

User Defined Alarms

CAIT users are able to configure CAIT to raise an alarm when a specific condition is encountered while collecting or replaying a log file. The Define Alarms dialog box lets you create and modify conditions that can trigger responses including sounds, changes to the current logging behavior, log file annotations, and session transcript messages.

User Defined Screens

CAITs User Defined Screens are text based. Users have the ability to add any combination of phone and network parameters, and they can apply any complex formulas to parameters, as desired.

Real-Time Mapping
Display mobiles position spidering lines between mobile and active set PNs in both real-time and in replay.

CAIT contains several different windows that provide graphic displays of mobile phone signals, as well as other text based windows. The Temporal Analyzer window tracks the strength and arrival times of PNs for CDMA (PSCs for WCDMA/UMTS). The Signal Graphs window displays various characteristics of the transmit and receive signals from the mobile phone. The PN Grid and PN Graph windows display signal activity at every PN offset or in a regular sampling of PN offsets when used with the Retriever pilot scanner. The Finger Placement window displays the PN on the rake receiver which includes delay and Ec/Io.
