3. Political/Economic/Environmental condition of Dubai. Ans.

Dubai is a miracle; a place that has taken its best attributes location, weather and maximized their importance. The political, economic and environmentfactors enhance the success story of the state. It has won the battle over much better-heeled cities in the region to become the economic and commercial center, the Singapore of the Middle East. Political Condition: Dubai is part of a confederation of seven Emirates which is known United Arab Emirates. Each independent Emirate is ruled by a different ruler and each has its own stipulated rules and laws. Dubai's government operates within the framework of a constitutional monarchy-this means that the national leader cannot be challenged in elections, but that nevertheless he is no absolute ruler, as it is the constitution which is above him. Dubai has been ruled by the Al Maktoum family since 1833. The current ruler, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is also the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates. The President and Vice President serve a 5-year term.Dubai has no political parties. The country running under the civil and Shariah law did not face any significant political anarchy. Economic Condition:Initially Dubai's economy was built on the back of the oil industry. It is estimated that Dubai produces 50,000 to 70,000 barrels of oil a dayand substantial quantities of gas from offshore fields.The emirate's model of business drives its economy, with the effect that its main revenues are now from Real estate and construction (22.6%), trade (16%) and financial services (11%) and these are the largest contributors to Dubai's economy. Dubai has recently attracted world attention through many innovative large construction projects and sports events. Tourism is an important part of the Dubai government's strategy to maintain the flow of foreign cash into the emirate.It is estimated that natural gas account for only 6% of its gross domestic product and a majority of the emirate's revenues are from tourism.Dubai's property market experienced a major deterioration in 2008 and 2009 as a result of the worldwide economic downturn of 20072010. Environmental Condition: Dubai is situated on the Persian Gulf coast of the UAE. Dubai lies directly within the Arabian Desert. The topography of Dubai is highlighted by sandy desert patterns. The climate of Dubai is an arid subtropical climate because of its location within the Northern desert belt. Summers in Dubai are extremely hot, windy and dry, with an average high around 40 C and overnight lows around 30 C. Winters are cool and short with an average high of 23 C and overnight lows of 14 C. Weather between December and March remains cool and is considered as most comfortable climatic conditions throughout the year. The weather in Dubai can bring short and irregular rainfall as is typical for the Middle East. Warm, balmy weather all year long is definitely a very attractive proposition for people especially for Westerners or for people from cold climates. 1
