Special antennas are made to order. Moonraker Australia Pty. Ltd. (the company) guarantees all equipment manufactured by the company to be free of faults arising from defects in workmanship or materials. Should any fault due to bad design, workmanship or materials be proven at any time within one (1) year of the date of purchase, the company will remedy such fault free of charge provided that the equipment is returned, forward and return carriage paid, to the company. This guarantee shall not extend to any abuse, accident or improper installation, connection, adjustment or use otherwise than in accordance with the instructions issued by the company. Subject to the matters set out in this guarantee, no liability express or implied, is accepted for any consequential loss, damage or injury arising as a result of a fault in the equipment, and all express or implied warranties as to quality or fitness for any purpose are hereby expressly excluded. This guarantee is restricted to the original purchaser only except where the original purchaser is a reseller who has purchased for the purpose of retail, in which case the warranty shall extend to the original purchaser from such reseller. It is important to ensure that minimum mount spacings in side mounting antennas are observed and in the case of type 18S/D, the gate end top mount is fitted, otherwise the antenna may not have adequate support to survive wind conditions. In the case of high speed vessels, it usually better to fit a slightly smaller antenna than normally indicated for displacement hull vessels, unless the antenna is designed for the purpose.

Strict adherence to the instructions will prolong service life and ease disassembly of the antenna in years to come. NOTE: When handling antenna ensure that hands and tools are clean. Wipe any dirt, grease etcetera from antenna using clean rag soaked in cleaning fluid. Ensure antenna sections are adequately supported and are not knocked or scraped against any hard surfaces. If necessary place protective wrapping around antenna to prevent damage to surface finish

The following instructions apply to both joints. We suggest assembly of bottom joint first.

JOINT SEALING (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) Remove fixing screws from joint section. Lightly lubricate the external surface of the joint section with petroleum jelly (or similar). Carefully slide the joint shroud over the antenna to the upper section of the joint to a point approximately 200mm (8 in) above the joint. Roll larger diameter section of joint shroud back over itself until the shroud is the length of the smaller diameter section. Thoroughly clean mating surfaces of the joint and remove the petroleum jelly using rag and cleaning fluid and allow to dry. Ensure no dust or residue is left on surfaces. Install O ring on upper section of joint in the O ring groove provided. (Base to mid section only) Use normal precautions observed for O rings to prevent damage such as nicks and abrasions. Apply grease to both surfaces of joint using special grease supplied in jointing kit. Work grease around O ring. Carefully insert upper section into lower section, gently rotate upper section to ensure even distribution of jointing grease. Align joint fixing holes, insert fixing screws with shakeproof washers (base to mid section only) and tighten firmly. Thoroughly clean excess grease from external surfaces of antenna using rag and cleaning fluid - allow to dry. Wind the special tape supplied firmly (without stretching) once around antenna immediately below fixing screws and then spirally wind tape towards antenna joint, keeping tape firm. Each winding to step up by half the tape width until a position just above the joint is reached. Proper adherence to this procedure will ensure that the screws and joint are properly sealed. (12) Slide down and manipulate the shroud over the upper section of the joint. Roll the larger diameter section over lower section of joint. Manipulate the shroud until it is fully home on both diameters. Thoroughly clean all excess lubricant from antenna using a dry rag..

INSTRUCTIONS - ANTENNA SECTION JOINING

The object of this procedure is to exclude moisture from the joints of the antenna. Strict adherence to the instructions will prolong service life and ease disassembly of the antenna in years to come. NOTE: When handling antenna ensure that hands and tools are clean. Wipe any dirt, grease etcetera from antenna using clean rag soaked in cleaning fluid. Ensure antenna sections are adequately supported and are not knocked or scraped against any hard surfaces. If necessary place protective wrapping around antenna to prevent damage to surface finish.

Preliminary Joint Shroud Installation (1) (2) (3) Roll the joint shroud back over itself as far as possible. Lightly lubricate the internal surface of the shroud with petroleum jelly. Carefully slide the joint shroud over the top of the base section of the antenna until you are below the four screw holes.

Joint Sealing (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) Thoroughly clean mating surfaces of the joint using rag and cleaning fluid and allow to dry. Ensure no dust or residue is left on the surfaces. Apply special grease supplied to both surfaces of the joint. Insert top section into base section and gently rotate the top section to ensure even distribution of the jointing grease. Align the joint fixing holes, insert and tighten the four philips head screws. Thoroughly clean any excess grease from the external surface of the antenna, using rag and cleaning fluid. Allow to dry. Wind special tape supplied firmly (without stretching) once around antenna immediately below the fixing screws, and then spirally wind tape towards antenna joint, keeping tape firm. Each winding to step up by half the tape width until a position just above the joint is reached. Proper adherence to this procedure will insure that the screws and joint are properly sealed.

Joint Shroud Installation (1) (2) Unroll the joint shroud and manipulate it until it covers the tape. Thoroughly clean all excess lubricant from antenna with a clean rag. 2

The following instructions apply to both joints. We suggest assembly of bottom joint first. NOTE: (1) That only the bottom joint is fitted with an O ring seal. (2) Synthetic rubber joint shroud material has a high tear resistance but do not stretch it more than necessary or use sharp objects to manipulate it.

JOINT SEALING (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) Remove fixing screws from joint section. Lightly lubricate the external surface of the joint section with petroleum jelly (or similar). Carefully slide the joint shroud over the antenna to the upper section of the joint to a point approximately 200mm (8 in) above the joint. Roll larger diameter section of joint shroud back over itself until the shroud is the length of the smaller diameter section. Thoroughly clean mating surfaces of the joint and remove the petroleum jelly using rag and cleaning fluid and allow to dry. Ensure no dust or residue is left on surfaces. Install O ring on upper section of joint in the O ring groove provided. (Base to mid section only) Use normal precautions observed for O rings to prevent damage such as nicks and abrasions. Apply grease to both surfaces of joint using special grease supplied in jointing kit. Work grease around O ring. Carefully insert upper section into lower section, gently rotate upper section to ensure even distribution of jointing grease. Align joint fixing holes, insert fixing screws with shakeproof washers (base to mid section only) and tighten firmly. Thoroughly clean excess grease from external surfaces of antenna using rag and cleaning fluid - allow to dry. Manipulate the shroud until it is fully home on both diameters. Thoroughly clean all excess lubricant from antenna using a dry rag.. 2

23B/3 Series INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Assembly
1. For ease of maintenance lightly smear the antenna middle joint with grease and push firmly together. Place silicone sealant on screw thread before screwing into place. 2. Tighten screws firmly and cover heads with sealant. 3. Drill four 8 mm (5/16 ins) clearance holes to suit base mount in position required. Erect the aerial and bolt down using 8mm (5116 ins) S/S bolts. 4. Use sealant on underside of mount and on bolts to prevent ingress of moisture.

Connection
Connecting wire from tuning unit to aerial should be not less than 7/1.04 hard drawn insulated copper cable. It should be run well clear of metal objects and be as short and direct as possible. Cover the connections liberally with silicone sealant. We recommend the use of Moonraker feedthrough and standoff insulators for this antenna. N.B. Sealant should be non-acid neutral cure type. Acid cure type sealant will attack copper and aluminium.

Type 23H/S Installation Instructions
ASSEMBLY
1. Slide the two mounting insulators on the base section before assembling, being careful not to damage the Epoxy based coating. If required, mounts may be opened by reversing the clamp screw, placing a coin or similar in the slot behind the screw and using the screw to force the slot apart. 2. Assemble the base and top sections and fasten with the stainless steel self tapping screws supplied. Use of a smear of grease on the bare aluminium before assembly will aid future disassembly. 3. The joint should be sealed with a self amalgamating tape such as butyl rubber or Sikoflex. an optional sealing kit with a rubber boot is available.

MOUNTING
1. Make sure the mounting bolts enter the insulator thread by not less than 25mm (1in) but not so that they bottom in the ;hole. 2. Mounting insulators should be spaced not less than 0.9m (3ft) apart.

Important Factors
1. For best results, the antenna should be mounted vertically (not sloping) on the cabinside or stub mast. 2. Keep the feeder lead clear of ships wiring and other metallic objects and avoid running parallel to metal decks, etc. with less than 2 cm (0.75in) clearance. We recommend Moonraker standoff and cable run insulators and Moonraker HV silicone insulated cable. 3. Lead should be run as short and direct as possible between the antenna and equipment. 4. If using deck feedthrough insulator, make sure the terminals are protected from salt spray, otherwise severe loss of power may result due to leakage across the wet insulator. Moonraker feedthrough insulators are recommended. 5. Earth leads should be connected directly to the ATU and kept as short as possible. 6. Copper strip at least 50 mm (2in) wide is recommended for earth lead between equipment and Moonraker earth plate.

Tuning
As the feed point impedance of this antenna is relatively high on all frequencies, antenna current will be relatively low, and earth losses minimised. At the self resonant frequencies little or no inductance will be required in the ATU. At 8 and 12 MHz frequencies series capacitance may be required if the antenna and earth leads are long.

Type 23L/D INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
These instructions should be read in conjunction with the antenna product specification sheet. When shipped the antenna (two sections) and mount are packed separately. The Antenna Joint Sealing Kit (option) and its instructions are packed separately with the mount. ANTENNA ASSEMBLY 1. Remove the joint screws from the top section of the antenna. 2. Apply a thin layer of grease to the bare aluminium section of the joint and slide it inside the top of the base section. N.B. This grease will greatly assist with future disassembly of the joint. 3. Replace the joint screws and tighten firmly by hand only. MOUNTING If the antenna is to be used in the horizontal (laid down) position for improved high angle transmissions it will be necessary to select a position for the mount that will be as far as possible above the deck below or above the sea if laying over the stern or side of the vessel. 1. Remove the thick white (35 x 20 mm) recessed nylon washer for safe keeping. 2. Using the mount as a template mark the positions of the 3 mounting holes. 3. Remove the mount and drill 3 x 10 mm clearance holes in the deck. On thin decks it may be necessary to reinforce them with a plate under the deck. 4. Fasten the mount to the deck using 3 x 10 mm (3/8 in.) mounting bolts (not supplied). N.B. (1) The thick white recessed nylon washer should be placed under the head of the mounting bolt that is inside the end of the mount. (2) The antenna position locking pin and retaining clip lanyard (wire) is supplied with a lug on one end. This should be placed under the head of one of the side mounting bolts. This provides security for the locking pin and clip from being lost when the antenna is being raised or lowered. 5. Remove the long pivot bolt in the corner of the mount. Note that it is secured by a special self locking nut. 6. Insert the base insulator of the antenna into the mount and replace the pivot bolt through the sides of the mount and the hole in the base insulator. Tighten the special nut. 7. Attach a suitable high voltage antenna feed cable to the feed point on the side of the antenna above the base insulator. Ensure that this cable has enough slack to allow the antenna to be laid down. Moonraker High Voltage Silicone Cable is recommended for this use. Ensure the cable does not touch any of the metal parts of the mount or the deck when in either of the two antenna positions. 8. To lower or raise the antenna remove the retaining clip and locking pin and swing the antenna to the new position. Replace the pin and clip in the new position.

Assembly
1. When fitting the side mounting insulators, slide them on the base section before assembling. Mounts may be opened by reversing the clamp screw, placing a coin or similar in the slot behind the screw and using the screw to force the slot apart. For ease of maintenance lightly smear the top section slip joint with grease and push firmly together. Tighten screws firmly and lightly smear joint with neutral clear silicone. If the top section is removed when trailing, make sure to replace it tightly when using the antenna again.

Mounting
1. Make sure the mounting bolts are long enough to use the full length of thread in the insulators, but not so long that they bottom in the hole. Mounting insulators should be spaced not less than 60 cm (24 in) apart.

Assembly and Mounting

Drill a 16mm (5/8 in) hole through deck or cabin top in most suitable position for the antenna. Temporarily locate the antenna base and flange over the hole. Mark the position of the four flange bolt holes. Drill the 4 mounting holes. Remove the joint screws from the top section of the antenna. Apply a thin layer of grease to the bare aluminium of the top section slip joint and slide it inside the top of the base section. N.B. This grease will greatly assist with future disassembly of the joint. Replace the joint screws and tighten firmly by hand only. Place sealing compound between the flange and deck and around feed through hole.

10. Erect antenna and fasten flange mounting bolts. 11. From underside of deck, using sealing compound, screw up feed through washer and connection bolt. (This bolt is not designed to support the antenna as the flange mounting bolts do this).

Assembly
1. When fitting the side mount insulators, slide them on the base section before assembling, being careful not to damage the plastic coating. Mounts may be opened by reversing the clamp screw, placing a coin or similar in the slot behind the screw and using the screw to force the slot apart. For ease of maintenance lightly smear the top section slip joint with grease and push firmly together. Tighten screws firmly and lightly smear joint with neutral clear silicone. If the top section is removed when trailing, make sure to replace it tightly when using the antenna again.

Mounting
1. Make sure the mounting bolts are long enough to use the full length of thread in the insulators, but not so long that they bottom in the hole. Mounting insulators should be spaced not less than 45cm (18 in) apart.

Mounting

(for anti-turn spigot) hole through the deck in the location required and mount the deck mount using a packing wedge if necessary to keep the antenna vertical. Use a little silicone sealant under the mount to keep the joint waterproof and drill a small hole to accommodate the anti-twist peg. Bolt the mount hard down using the bolt and insulating washer provided. Take care to locate the anti-turn spigot. Reinforce thin decks with a metal or wooden plate to prevent deck fracture. Connect the antenna lead to the lug provided on the mounting bolt. Screw the antenna hard down on the mount, otherwise it may work on the threaded section and eventually fracture. Do not use without the neoprene 0 ring as this waterproofs the joint and prevents it working loose. Spare O rings are available from us or from engineering supply houses. The size is 7/8 in x 1/8 in.

15/12 GM GUYED MAST INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

The 12GM and 15GM masts have been designed to be easily erected in approximately half an hour using two men. With practice, and in no wind conditions it is possible to erect it with one man. Refer to installation diagram when reading installation instructions.

Note:- If mast is to be erected permanently we recommend that all mast slip joints, screws, nuts and screw fittings are greased to assist in future disassembly. Suitable greases range from petroleum jelly to some kinds of automotive grease.

INSTALLATION 1. 2. Screw one of the two 5/8 nuts (1) to the bottom of the thread on the ground stake (2). Place the ground plate (3) onto the ground stake (2), followed by the U-bracket (4) and secure with other 5/8 nut (1). Push ground stake (2) into ground, ensuring the galvanised ground plate (3) lays flat on the ground. Fit mast base section (5), (the section with a inch, 12.7mm clearance hole drilled through it near one end), into galvanised angled elbow section (6) provided. Fit angled elbow section (6), with mast base section (5) to U-channel (4) with the x 4 inch, 12.7 x 100 mm bolt (7) provided, and secure using two inch nuts (8). Do not over tighten. With mast base section (5) laying down on ground, fit guy plate (9) and guys for first joint over section joining spigot. Note:- Guy plates are la belled 1 to 4 for 12GM mast and 1 to 5 for 15GM mast. Guy plate 1 is the base section guy plate. The top guy plate has an extra hole to take a D shackle for the halyard pulley. 7. Slip remaining mast sections (10) together with their respective guy plates (9) and guys between each joint. Check guy plate (9) and guys are fitted starting with number 1 at bottom and continuing sequentially 2,3 etc. Drive the four guy stakes into the ground on a radius of 20 feet, six meters from the base of the 12GM Mast and a radius of 23 feet, seven meters from the base of the 15GM Mast, at 90 degree intervals.

10. To ensure correct orientation of mast for erection, it is important to drive in the first guy stake in line with the laid out mast and then work around 90 degrees from there. Each stake is fitted with two D shackles to fasten off the guys. 11. Fit halyard to pulley or Gibbet (if used) or attach antenna, before erecting mast. 12. Temporarily fasten the side and rear guys to the D shackle on the stakes at the mark near the end of each guy. 13. Lay the gin pole (13) so that it lies at approximately 90 degrees to the base of the mast with the shackle and erection rope at the outer end of the gin pole. 14. Tie off front set of guys to the shackle at the outer end of the gin pole (13), at mark near the end of each guy. 15. Lift and place base of gin pole (13) into angled elbow section (6). The gin pole should now be standing erect. As a safety measure, fit bolt & nut supplied on end of gin pole. 16. Assembly
1. Lay the sections out on the ground, placing the guy and halyard section at the top and the base insulator section at the bottom. The bottom section must be laid on solid ground so that it will not dig in when erected. A 30cm (12 in) square plate is recommended. Insert the centre guy casting with guys attached at the centre of the antenna (ie three sections from either end). Locate four guy anchors approximately 5 metres (16.4 ft) radius from the base at 90 degrees spacing. Lay out guys and temporarily fasten side and back guys to anchor. Check that the halyard pulley is in the required position for antenna support and that the mast base cannot move.

TYPE 32H/S INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
Assembly
The 32H/S radiator is supplied in three sections: base, mid and top section. The two sets of guys are stamped either 1 or 2 on the guy ring for ease of recognition. For ease of assembly, to assist conductivity and with future dismantling, smear a little of the conductive grease provided on the joints. Guy stakes or anchors are not provided. 1. 2. Lay out the three sections of the antenna. Place guy ring number 1 over the section joiner on the bottom of the mid section. Apply conductive grease to the joint. Slide the bottom of the mid section into the base section and secure using three in x 3/16 in stainless steel metal threads provided. Apply conductive grease to the joint. Insert the top section into the mid section. (Do not fit the securing screws at this stage.) Slide guy ring number 2 over the top section until it seats on top of the mid section. Fasten the mid and top sections using three in x 3/16 in stainless steel metal threads provided. Fasten the galvanised right angle mounting brackets together. Fasten the antenna base insulator using the M10 x 25mm stainless steel bolt and washer provided to the top bracket face. (As shown in the drawing at right.)

The antenna can be erected horizontally, between two masts, or as an inverted vee using a single centre support and top mounted horizontal stand - off gibbet (not supplied). The horizontal support gibbet should extend 800mm from the mast to prevent the antenna touching. The Moonraker Type 12 or 15GM masts are suitable for the inverted V configuration. IMPORTANT
Do not erect antenna above or below power cables. Do not unroll antenna until mast(s) have been erected. The antenna is supplied as a complete unit. Coaxial cable and connectors are available as an option. Halyard ropes, pulleys, gibbet (inverted V), sealing tape etc. should be supplied by the installer.

Erection
1) Refer to the attached chart showing the approximate spacings required between mast and securing stakes for the inverted vee configuration. For horizontal configuration the minimum mast spacings are 32 metres (105ft) for the HF FD 2 - 3030 and 52 metres(171ft) for the HF FD 2 - 3050. The antenna has been rolled up onto a roll former for easy deployment. Carry the antenna in its box to one end (either a mast if horizontal configuration or to an end support if inverted V configuration). Lift the antenna on its roll former out of the box. Locate and untie the end insulator and temporarily fasten it to either the base of the mast (C) or the end stake (E) with a piece of rope (not supplied). Unroll the antenna as you walk towards the other mast or end stake. Ensure orientation of balun transformer is correct for method of installation (horizontal or inverted V). See diagram A or B. Attach coaxial cable to balun transformer using a PL-259 (UHF) plug. Secure coaxial cable to support bracket using cable ties or tape so that no strain is placed upon the connector. See diagram D. Take care not to crush the coaxial cable. Seal the coaxial connector using suitable tape to provide a weatherproof joint. See diagram D. For horizontal installation attach the antenna end insulators to the mast halyards and raise into position. See diagram C. For inverted V installation attach the single mast halyard to the transformer balun eyebolt. See diagram B. Raise the centre of the antenna to NEAR the top of the mast. Attach the antenna end insulators to stub masts or stakes using nylon or polypropylene rope. Lightly tension the antenna by fully raising the mast halyard(s).

HF EF 2-30 HF Broadband Base Station Antenna Installation Instructions
The Moonraker EF 2-30 is a complete lightweight broadband antenna system covering the 2 to 30 MHz frequency band. This system is designed to be erected directly over the ground. It is not recommended for roof top erection. It is easily erected in an inverted V configuration via the permanently attached centre insulator. A lightweight mast (Moonraker type 9MP or 12GM), tree or tower that will allow the centre to be raised to approximately 10 metres (33 feet) via a rope halyard is required.

Erection

Fasten the free end of the centre insulator to the halyard/rope from the mast and raise the centre of the antenna to NEAR the top of the mast. (drawing A) Centralise the radiator and holding both ends together (matching transformer and balancing network) walk away from the mast until the radiator is tight. Drive an earth stake (provided) in as far as possible at this point. Fasten either the matching transformer end (feed point) or the balancing network end to the earth stake with the D shackle provided (drawing B) Take the other end of the radiator to a similar point (180) on the other side of the mast. (drawing) Drive in the other earth stake and fasten the radiator to it via the D shackle provided (drawing B). Using the set screws and nuts provided, electrically connect the antenna ends (lug attached) to each earth stake using the other hole near the D Shackle (drawing B). Lightly tension the antenna by fully raising the mast halyard (2 above). Fasten a coaxial cable via a connector (PL259) to the socket (SO239) on the matching transformer. the other end of the cable should be connected directly to the 50 output of the transceiver.

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Ensure radiator does not touch the mast, tower, tree branches, or other objects. Around the 10 metre (33 feet) height for the centre is best. Earthing at each end via the earth stakes is very important for correct operation. Connect the wire ends via the lug to the screw and nut in the earth stake. In semi arid (desert) or very dry earth conditions a wire connecting the two stakes electrically together will improve performance. Tape up and seal the coaxial connectors when there is the likelihood of wet weather.

HF Broadband Base Station Antenna for professional short to medium range communications
The semi-delta antenna system is designed for base station use by professional and commercial users of the HF band where an economical broadband system is required. Being simple to erect it exhibits an omnidirectional high angle radiation pattern for communications up to 1700 kilometres, dependent upon ionospheric conditions. Except for the main support mast, earth stake for the lower end and coaxial cable between the antenna and transceiver, the system is supplied complete with all hardware, transformer balun, and a halyard and pulley to raise the antenna on the main support mast. Cable and connectors are available on request. The main mast may be provided by a free standing guyed mast like Moonraker type 15GM, a windmill tower, or similar suitable support structure.

It is important that this stake provide a good earth for the antenna. It may consist of galvanised water pipe or fence stakes, etc., placed no closer than 3-4m (10-13 ft) from any other metallic structure. It should be driven well into the ground to provide a stable support and earth. It may be necessary to use a backstay on this stake.

1. Lay out the antenna arrays (Item 1 and 2) between the main support mast and the earth stake. The antenna upper array (Item 1) is placed with the halyard nearest the support mast. The lower array (Item 2) has the D shackle nearest to the earth stake. 2. Assemble the three section spreader (Item 4) 3. Attach the antenna upper and lower arrays to the spreader (Item 4) and connect the respective coated wires on the lower array nearest to the spreader, to the terminals of the coil and resistive load using the nuts and washers provided. Firmly tighten all connections. 4. Affix the pulley (Item 6) to the main support mast at a height of 15m (40 ft) and thread the halyard through the pulley. 5. Using the D shackle provided, attach the lower array to the earth stake 2m (6.5 ft) above the ground. Secure the transformer balun (Item 5) approximately 150mm (6 in) below the D shackle. 6. Connect the earth lead on the transformer balun to the earth stake with the screw provided. Tighten firmly. It is important that a good electrical connection is made onto clean metal. 7. Attach the coated lead from the lower array to the transformer balun antenna position, as indicated, usi ng the connections provided. Tighten firmly. 8. The UHF (SO239) socket connector on the transformer balun box is for the co-axial cable connecting the radio transceiver. Once connected, this is to be sealed to prevent damage to the balun by environmental conditions. The cable between the transceiver and transformer balun should consist of a high quality 50 co-axial cable with UHF (PL259) connector at the antenna end. 9. Using the halyard, raise the antenna until at approximately shoulder height. connect vertical array using line tap connectors provided, as shown in Fig. 1. (Longest wire is nearest to the support mast.) Raise antenna to top of support mast. Ensure vertical array is taut and hangs symmetrically, but not over tight. If not, lower antenna and adjust individual cables at the line tap connectors to even it up. 10. The antenna vertical array is now secured at or near the base of the main support mast. This section is also to be taut but is not to place any additional strain upon the upper and lower arrays. 11. Your Moonraker semi-delta antenna system is now ready for operation.

1. Slide the two mounting insulators on the mounting tube, being careful not to damage the plastic coating. Mounts may be opened by reversing the clamp screw, placing a coin or similar in the slot behind the screw and using the screw to force the slot apart. Mounts should be spaced not less than 30cm (12 ins) apart.

Mounting
The antenna is designed to be clamped to a short mounting pole or mast. As the antenna is designed to withstand 230 km/h winds, it is important that the mounting pole or mast is constructed from strong material. The antenna should be clamped to mounting pole using two (2) U bolts or similar. It is important that the clamps used are heavy duty to maintain the 230 km/h rating. Moonraker can supply suitable mounts upon request. 1. Slide the U bolt clamps over the antenna base tube and then over the mounting pole that is to support the antenna. The clamps should be spaced a minimum of 300mm apart. Ensure that the clamps are fitted with spring or anti vibration lock washers. Securely tighten the U bolt nuts onto the lock washers. When attaching the coaxial cable, ensure that the joint is sealed against water ingress. Arrange the coaxial cable in a U shape to provide a drip point for water to run off and not run onto joint (connector). Fasten the coaxial cable securely to the mounting pole so that no strain is placed upon the connector.

1) When received, the antenna is assembled except for the four ground plane radials which are packed with the antenna. 2) Each radial has 2 (two) stainless steel screws fitted at one end. Remove the screws from each radial. 3) Smear a little grease on the bare aluminium ends of each radial before inserting them into the holes of the antenna body at the centre of the antenna as per Fig. 1. Note that the grease will make it easier to disassemble the antenna later if required. 4) Fix each radial into the boss using the stainless steel screws removed at step 2 above. Do not over tighten the screws.

Mounting
1) The antenna should be mounted as high as possible and kept clear of nearby metal objects which may affect antenna tuning and, for best results, the radiating element should be vertical and not sloping. 2) The 32mm (1 in) diameter mounting pole is designed to allow clamping to another support pole, mast, etc., via clamps (not supplied/option). 3) The RF connection is by way of an N type receptacle on the side of the antenna body. When making connection, ensure the coaxial cable is tied off and supported, so that no strain is placed upon the connectors. 4) Seal up the coaxial connectors with self amalgamating tape or similar, so as to keep water out of the joint. 5) No tuning of the antenna is possible or necessary as it is pre-tuned at the factory for the frequencies ordered.

IMPORTANT FACTORS
1. The top 80 cm (32 in) of the antenna must be in free space, well away from other objects, antennas, etc. Mounting it as high as possible will assist performance. Vertical is best. 2. The base/mounting tube section of the antenna must not be drilled or damaged. 3. Supplied cable may be shortened. It may be lengthened but performance will be degraded due to signal/coaxial losses. 4. Due to internal arrangements the antenna will exhibit an open circuit if tested with an ohm meter or DC tester. 5. When using a swingdown mount allow sufficient cable to permit the antenna to swingdown without cable strain.

1. Slide the two mounting insulators on the base section of each antenna before assembling, being careful not to damage the antenna coating. If necessary mounts may be opened by reversing the clamp screw, placing a coin or similar in the slot behind the screw and using the screw to force the slot apart. Assemble the base, mid and top sections and fasten with the three stainless steel self tapping screws supplied. Use of a smear of grease on the bare aluminium before assembly will aid future disassembly. Seal the OUTSIDE of each joint with tape or neutral cure silicone. Make sure the mounting bolts enter the two mounting insulator thread by not less than 25 mm (1 in) but not so that they bottom in the hole. Mounting insulators should be spaced not less than 0.9 metres (3 ft) apart.

1. 2. For best results the antenna should be mounted vertically (not sloping). The length of lead supplied with the antenna should not be exceeded (2.5m/8ft). Longer lead may be used if necessary, but antenna efficiency may decrease and series capacitance may be required to tune the higher frequencies above 8 MHz. Keep the lead clear of ship's wiring and other metallic objects and avoid running parallel to metal decks, etc. with less than 2cm (3/4 in) clearance. We recommend Moonraker stand off and cable run insulators. Lead should be run as short and direct as possible between the antenna and equipment. If using deck feed through insulator, make sure the terminals are protected from salt spray, otherwise severe loss of power may result due to leakage across the wet insulator. Moonraker feed through insulators are recommended wherever the lead passes through the cabin or deck. Earth leads should be connected directly to the ATU and kept as short as possible. Copper strip at least 50mm (2 in) wide is recommended for earth lead between equipment and Moonraker earth plate when installed on fibreglass or wooden vessels.

Apply a thin layer of grease to the bare aluminium section of the top section slip joint and slide it inside the top of the base section. N.B. 3. For best reception the Dome antenna should be installed as high as possible clear of metal objects such as masts, stays or antennas, etc., which may distort the omnidirectional pickup pattern. It should not be in the line of fire of radars. On vehicles, the dome should be mounted as high as possible above the roof. 100mm (4 in) should be used as a minimum guide. Flush mounting is acceptable on a fibreglass roof. On ships using high power transmitting equipment the Dome should be mounted as far as possible from transmitting antennas. Mounting may be by U bolts or hose clips clamped to a stub mast or other structure or via the threaded flange mount provided. The cable must be securely supported so that the cable weight does not hang on the dome connector. The cable may be shortened or lengthened as required. To avoid ghosting, extension of the cable should be made by using an in line good quality 75 W cable connector and 75 W cable, preferably the same type as supplied with the antenna. All connections must be sealed to prevent moisture ingress, particularly the coaxial connection in the base of the antenna. Use sealing tape provided. The dome mounted amplifier is accessible by removing the 6 screws securing the cover plate on the base of the dome. The amplifier connections and cover plate are sealed with a neoprene gasket and must be removed carefully. do not open it unless there is a problem. Service of the amplifier/control unit should only be carried out by a qualified technician. Replacement amplifier units are available from Moonraker. When replacing the amplifier it must be resealed again. It is most important that only neutral cure silicone sealants are used as other types corrode metals. The control unit may be mounted in any convenient position located inside the vessel. For the AM/FM unit, mounting holes are accessible by removing the unit lid. Connect the control unit battery cable to a suitable DC negative earth system. Wire with red trace is positive. The unit will not work if polarity is reversed. If 110 or 240 volt AC operation is required use a 12 volt DC plug

pack with a current rating of at least 100 milliamps. Power for the Dome amplifier is fed via the coaxial connecting cable. In the TV AM/FM control unit short term protection against cable short circuit is provided by a fuse in the control unit, but long term short circuit may cause control unit overheating. The TV/S units fuse is external in line. Cables from control unit to receivers should be 75? and as short as possible. If a dual AM/FM vehicle type receiver is fitted, special low capacity cables should be used for connection to the AM antenna. This does not apply if the Moonraker 15BC receiving antenna is used. Both control units are reverse polarity protected. Coaxial cable connection details are shown above. In the event of the system not functioning: 1. Check that 12v or 24v is present at the input to the control unit; 12 volts only TV/S. Ensure that the polarity is correct (red tracer is positive) 2. Check fuse in TV AM/FM control unit (In-line fuse TV/S 3. Check for short circuit between braid and inner conductor of dome antenna cable; also check cables to TV receiver The Moonraker TV Dome is a true omnidirectional antenna system and as such will receive signals from all azimuth directions. This obviates the necessity to redirect the antenna as boat or vehicle heading changes. In some locations signals reflected from cliffs, hills or nearby objects may be of similar strength to the direct signal. Since omnidirectional antennas will not discriminate between direct and reflected signals, some picture deterioration, especially on the higher channels may occur in such locations. Digital TV Reception It is possible for some receivers to indicate there is no signal where an incoming digital signal is very strong. This can be easily overcome by placing a variable or switchable attenuator (20dB) in the coaxial line between the control unit and TV receiver. Analogue signals rarely suffer from this problem. A suitable attenuator is available from Moonraker.

IMPORTANT - Align section #2 and #3 and connect jumper lead to the wing nut located on section #3. Do not overtighten. Pay particular attention to routing of the coaxial cables through the swivel base so that they are not pinched or damaged when the antenna is raised into the vertical (operational) position.

STEP 1 Attach 8 x 820mm radial rods using supplied hex screws and wrench. Turn hex screw until it is lightly touching the radial rod and then tighten about half a turn.

STEP 2 Screw 8 x 280mm Element Rods into housing. A flat is provided on the end of the rod so that a small spanner (wrench) may be used. Do not overtighten.

Select the position where the guy anchor points are to be situated, using stakes or similar, placed at 90 intervals around the antenna at a 5 metre radius. Attach free end of guy ropes to anchor points EXCEPT the rear set of guys which are temporarily tied to the gin pole shackle. See 6) next page.

With the rear set of guys temporarily attached to the gin pole insert pole into the swivel base socket. Safety lock the gin pole into the socket using supplied nut and short bolt.

With sufficient additional personnel raise the antenna into a vertical position. This is best accomplished by one person walking the antenna up towards the vertical and by another person pulling down on the gin pole rope. At the same time the amount of slack at each guy anchor point will need to be controlled.

Once the antenna is in an upright position secure the guy ropes to the anchor points and remove the gin pole. Note a) Do not overtighten the guy ropes as this places additional loading on the antenna, it is only necessary to take up the slack. b) It is worthwhile marking the tie off point of the guys by placing a piece of tape around each one. This will assist greatly to position the guys the next time the system is erected.

1. 2. 3. 4. Select a position on the building or vessel that is in clear space and as far away as possible from any transmitting antennas, particularly MF and HF antennas. Base mount the antenna using the single stud protruding from the base. This stud is at earth potential. While the antenna will work satisfactorily without a ground connection (see 4 below), it will utilise the coaxial cable ground. Lightning protection will be improved by connecting the antenna base to ground. Antenna performance, particularly at the lower frequencies below 3 MHz, will be considerably enhanced if the antenna base stud is connected to the roof or some other metal structure. This structure is then coupled into the antenna system itself. The antenna is supplied with six metres of low loss coaxial cable. If a longer length is required, use coaxial connectors and good quality coaxial cable when extending. Ensure joint is fully waterproofed and avoid sharp bends or kinks when running cable.

MULTICOUPLER/POWER SUPPLY
1. 2. After removing the cover, mount the unit with screws via the mounting holes provided on the back panel. The case is not electrically connected to the circuit or the coaxial cable shield. Connect the antenna cable to the multicoupler INPUT terminal. See diagram for cable termination.

The multicouplers are designed to be cascaded in order to provide a large number of outlets still utilising the DC power feed to the first unit. IN A SINGLE MULTICOUPLER SYSTEM IT IS NECESSARY TO CUT THE LINK ON THE CIRCUIT BOARD MARKED SECOND STAGE LINK (NEAR). This link, when intact, provides the DC feed to further cascaded multicouplers when used.

Connect the coaxial feeds to the receivers to OUTPUT 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. It is not necessary to terminate any unused outputs. Connect a clean, fused (100mA) 12-28 volt DC supply to the unit via the cable provided. The wire with the red tracer is positive. The fuse and DC power supply rating needs to be increased by 60mA per multicoupler. In a cascaded multicoupler system, connect the receiver cables to OUTPUT 2, 3, 4 and 5 on the first multicoupler. OUTPUT 1 (link intact) should be cabled to the Input of the second multicoupler.

While Moonraker multicouplers are designed to be cascaded, it is likely that some degradation of signal to noise ratio will occur if too many stages are cascaded. Should more that 17 outlets be required, it is possible to drive another 5 multicouplers in parallel.

SINGLE CHANNEL/POWER SUPPLY


Remove the cover and mount the unit with screws via the mounting holes provided on the back panel. Connect the antenna cable to the terminal marked ANT and the receiver to terminal RX. Connect a clean and fused (50mA) 12 volt DC supply via the cable supplied. The wire with red tracer is positive. 09/04

Assembly
1. Assemble the antenna by screwing the sections together until the locking washer is fully compressed. Loctite or similar should be used on thread. Note some grades of Loctite will not allow disassembly. We suggest 242 grade. 2. Screw the transformer into the base of the antenna using silicone sealant around the joint.

Mounting
1. Mount the antenna as high as possible in a position allowing the coaxial cable to be kept short and direct, and clear from power wiring. 2. Rubber mounts should be spaced not less than 23cm (9in) apart on buildings and nylon mounts 45cm (18in) in marine applications.

Tuning
Spot Frequency
1. Remove the plastic cap and make connections as shown below. Use ceramic capacitor of appropriate value connected to pins 1 and 2. Capacitor values are shown on transformer label. 2. Thread cable through side hole in cap and make cable and earth connections as shown. Earth connections should be as short and direct as possible to a good earth point. Cable from transformer to receiver may be any good quality small diameter 75 ohm RF type coaxial cable. Tune the receiver to the station required and adjust the tuning screw of the transformer for maximum signal.

Broadband
1. Set the tuning screw either midway or to favour the required part of the band. No capacitor is required. Replace the cap after sealing with silicone sealant.

Important Factors
1. The signal available from this antenna system is so thigh that some transistor type receivers may be overloaded if there is a fairly strong station adjacent to the required station frequency. This results in spurious signals appearing at various spots throughout the receiver tuning range and may be overcome by inserting an attenuator as shown below. 2. For maximum noise reduction it may be better to connect the earth lead to the transformer earth point instead of at the receiver earth terminal, or to both points. Every situation is different and frequently no earth at all is necessary, but if only for lightning protection, a good earth should be used, connected to the transformer. 3. Retune the transformer after each earth connection change. 4. Use flexible cable such as 30/0.025mm plastic insulated for the earth lead. 5. Use only neutral cure silicone sealant. Other types may corrode metal parts. 6. Observe correct minimum mount spacings.

BC LOOP INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Assembly
1. 2. Screw the mounting tube into the tuning box and securely tighten the lock nut. Remove the knurled brass cover plate and remove the two screws holding the tuning capacitor plate. Note: The centre screw is for tuning capacitor adjustment only. 3. Carefully move the plate aside to gain access to the coaxial cable connection tags mounted on the base of the brass box. Feed the coaxial cable up through the mounting tube and connect the cable outer braid to the earth tag, and the cable inner conductor to the other tag. Carefully replace the tuning capacitor plate. The two flat pins on the tuning capacitor plate are for changing the loop tuning range. For frequencies between 520 KHz and 700 KHz the two pins should be joined together. For frequencies between 700 KHz and 1650 KHz the pins should be left open circuit. Mount the loop in the desired location well clear of nearby metal objects which may distort the loop pickup pattern.

Tuning
1. Tune the receiver to the desired frequency and adjust the loop tuning capacitor for maximum signal. Note: It is normal for the capacitor adjusting screw to be fully clock-wise when receiving above 1500 KHz. 2. 3. Rotate the loop for maximum signal and/or minimum interference, as desired. Replace the brass cover plate. Screw down fully. No gasket is required as the mating surfaces are machined for a gasket free seal.

Important Factors
The depth of the nulls and the pick-up pattern of the loop may be modified by re-radiation from power lines, metal pipes, poles or other nearby metal objects. It is, therefore, important that the loop be mounted well clear of such objects if the full potential of the loop pick-up pattern is to be exploited.

E PLATE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Mounting
1. Mount the E Plate in a position which will allow minimum lead length from the radio equipment and located so that the E Plate will not be out of water under any sea conditions. Drill two 12.5mm (1/2 in) holes (3/8 in. for aluminium plate) spaced 152mm (6 in) apart, so that the E-Plate fins run fore and aft. An internal backing plate should be used to strengthen thin hulls. Note: DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE NUTS as this may fracture the studs. 3. Copper strip at least (2 in) wide should be used for connection between radio equipment and COPPER E-PLATE. The strip should follow the shortest possible path clear of power wiring and free from contact with other metal objects. Note: Do not use flexible copper braid for connecting strap as it has a relatively high radio frequency resistance and may corrode rapidly. COPPER STRIP SHOULD NOT BE USED WITH ALUMINIUM E PLATES. Use marine grade aluminium strip. Continuous length copper strip is available from Moonraker 4. It is recommended that a silicone rubber sealant be used to bed in the E-Plate bolts, also smeared over the connection between the strap and E-Plate. Use only neutral cure silicone sealant, others may corrode the metal.

Maintenance
1. The E Plate requires no maintenance other than regular inspection. Moderate marine growth does not appreciably affect operation. Any growth should be cleaned off at boat slipping time. Aluminium plates require more frequent inspection than copper plates to guard against possible plate and bolt corrosion due to the possible presence of copper lead or mercury, etc., in paints, timber, etc. E Plates should not be treated with antifouling paints. Copper base anti-fouling paints should be kept clear of aluminium E Plates.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS TYPE LPU

ATU Earth

Antenna

The unit is designed to be placed in the open wire feeder between the antenna and antenna tuning unit (ATU). A close by, low resistance earth point is essential for optimum protection. MOUNTING The LPU may be mounted on either a horizontal or vertical surface utilising the mounting holes in the bottom panel. CONNECTION Utilising the nuts, lugs and washers on the threaded ends of the horn gap rods, connect one horn to the antenna feed (preferably at or near the base of the antenna) and the other horn directly to a low resistance earth (ground). 1 metre of Moonraker HV Silicone Cable is supplied at each end for these connections. The antenna connection must be made to the horn connected internally to the coil. The earth lead should be as short and as direct (no sharp bends) to earth (ground) as possible. The ATU should be connected to the other end of the coil. Seal up all cable entries and unused mounting holes with silicone sealant to prevent moisture and insect ingress to housing. ADJUSTMENT The horn gap must now be adjusted to suit the particular installation.

. Slacken the horn clamp screws at the top of the standoff insulators. The horns can now be oriented so that they are both in the same plane (exactly). . Tighten the clamping screw on one of the horns. The other horn can now be slid in its clamp to facilitate gap adjustment relative to the other horn. . Using the graph as a guide and from the approximate length of your antenna (including the length of feeder from the ATU) and the lowest frequency used, determine the likely maximum base voltage. . Preset the horn gap to approximately 0.5mm (0.020in) per kV of calculated base voltage. The use of feeler gauges will assist here. . Tune the system (transmitter and ATU) to the lowest frequency used. This ensures maximum transmit voltage is being applied across the horn gap. Use low power if possible. Increase transmitter power to maximum whilst observing the horn gap and the VSWR.

. If arcing effects are visible or tuning (ATU) needs to be varied, turn off the transmitter and increase the gap. Repeat until no arcing effects are observed at maximum power. (Arcing effects will show as a sudden change in VSWR as the horn gap is ionised and breakdown occurs.) . Replace the cover after ensuring that the sealing gasket is seated correctly.

Base and ground strap must have direct low resistance electrical connection via ship's metal hull or metal superstructure to the sea. Connection should be via 25 x 3mm aluminium strip. Avoid sharp bends! It is important that the connection between the stud and the aluminium strip and the connection between the strip and the ship are sealed gainst water ingress. A neutral cure silicone selant or Sixoflex type material is suitable.
