NORTH AMERICAN MISSION BOARD

NEWS FROM RANDY & RONDA

SUMMER 2011
Summer arrived on June 21st and July is soaring by. We have been privileged to serve and minister in several different capacities and the word flexible seems to stand out in our minds. God desires for us to be flexible and even fluid as we serve him. He says to always be ready to give an answer for the hope that we have to anyone who asks. Our hope is in Jesus Christ and we cant wait to share the Good News with others. In April, Randy taught leadership evangelism at the National Disaster Relief Roundtables meetings in Lynchburg, VA. Ronda worked registration and greeted all the folks staying at Eagle Erie Baptist center for the meetings. While we were attending, tornadoes ripped through the South causing major damage on April 28th. The Disaster Operation Center (DOC) was activated on April 29th. The DOC is located inside the North American Mission Board and is the central hub for coordinating disaster relief responses when disasters occur and states request assistance.

Matthew 9:37-38
Then he said to his disciples, The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.

Ronda and I reported to the Disaster Operation Center on May 2th and worked thru May 6th. We assisted with coordinating a multi state response due to the many tornadoes that ravaged the south and destroyed hundreds of homes and businesses. The primary focus was Tuscaloosa, Alabama where tornadoes touched down destroying homes, business and taking lives. We assisted with mobilizing Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Volunteers and equipment. There was great need for DR Chaplains, especially in the communities where lives had been lost. Romans 10:15 says, How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news. Often, those feet are disaster relief volunteers responding to victims with physical help while offering spiritual hope.

THE STORY OF SAUL

A highlight of the week was when I met Saul, a native of Guatemala, and a cleaning supervisor at the North American Mission Board. We began a secular conversation that led to a spiritual ending. Saul shared with me that he was not a Christian. When I asked Saul if he would like to know how to have a relationship with Christ, he eagerly said yes. Because he was on the job, we decided it would be best if he came back at his break. Saul returned to the Disaster Operation Center and I grabbed a couple of bottles of water and we proceeded to a foyer area just outside the office to sit and talk. I had searched for a tract and found the very last Eternal Life Tract in a brochure rack at the front lobby. It was not a coincident that this was the last one and that it was written in Spanish and English. Saul was anxious to hear what I had to say. We went through the tract one paragraph at a time. When we completed the tract, I asked Saul if he understood what we had read and asked if he would like to pray and ask Christ to be his personal Savior. He eagerly replied yes! I had the privilege of praying for Saul and then Saul prayed with much certainty, the sinners prayer. I have enjoyed getting to know Saul and visiting with him when we are at NAMB.

A FEW OTHER HIGHLIGHTS

Ronda and I were asked to man the Disaster Operation Center while our team attended a National VOAD Conference in Kansas City. We were actually in route to GA. on May 22nd when the tornadoes hit Joplin, MO leveling a large part of the town. It was a very busy day on Monday May 23 rd, as calls came in offering to help and assessment teams began reporting damage and fatalities. We had the privilege of working with our state convention partners and assisting with the response. It was a humbling experience to moderate a conference call with our state disaster relief directors and hear all the offers to help and assist the impacted states. What a beautiful picture of the followers of Jesus as our State Disaster Relief Director listened, offered help and prayed for Joplin and the many families impacted. We finished our last of five training with North Carolina Baptist Men Disaster Relief the first weekend of June with over 400 in attendance. The training is scheduled to conclude right as hurricane season begins so that volunteers and leadership will be available to respond during a disaster callout. Randy teaches evangelism classes at each of the disaster relief trainings, for new trainees, re-certification trainees and advance trainees. What a privilege to encourage, equip and challenge the volunteers to be intentional in sharing their faith and then hear their stories of how God has used them to change lives and impact the kingdom. Southern Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers have been on the move since spring, responding to disasters in 17 states. On June 7th we drove to Pace, FL for the National Campers on Mission Rally. Attendance was one of the highest, evident by all of the camping rigs and volunteers. They arrived in motor coaches, fifth wheels, and tagalongs, excited to share what God had done this year. Randy presented Evangelism Tools for Volunteers to two of the largest classes we have ever had at the COM Rally. A lady came up to Randy after class and said she could not see very well but she knew God would continue to use her as a witness to others at the age of 97. What a testimony and a heart for Jesus! On Wednesday evening, June 15th Ronda had the awesome privilege to speak to The Church Ladies of Fellowship Church in Prairieville, LA. We met our Cajun friend Donna Guillot during a DR response in 2008 and have remained close friends. The evening ended around 11 PM after having a time of prayer over each lady. What a blessing to pray over the saints! For Information on Southern Baptist Disaster Relief visit the website @ www.namb.net

WHERE WE ARE...
Several people have asked us, How can we help you in your ministry? First, pray that we would always bring glory to God through evangelism training and serving in disaster relief. Pray that Christians would have a renewed boldness to share Christ and that many non-believers would come to know Him as a result. Second, prayerfully consider partnering with us by giving a monthly tax deductible gift that will enable us to continue serve in this ministry. By the way, Ronda and I stepped out on faith and left our jobs 5 years ago to begin this ministry. God has always been faithful to provide our needs through churches and partners like you. Thank you for your prayers and financial support which has enabled us to train 1,728 volunteers in evangelism this year and serve Christ through disaster relief. We thank God for each one of you!

Please let us know how we can pray for you and your family. Our email address is rcorn@namb.net. Until ALL know Him.
