Training Deaf People to Live for God

About Cayo Deaf Institute CDI is located near Spanish Lookout in western Belize in Central America. The school is dedicated to sharing the gospel, teaching, and training deaf children from all across Belize. Volunteer staff teach all levels of classes to over 20 deaf students. Many arrive with no knowledge of American Sign Language. Some are not aware that communication is even possible. The institutes mission is to develop Godly character, teach academics in a primary school setting, and help students learn a trade that involves working with their hands. Students also participate in farming, chores, meal preparation and clean up, yard work, chapel and church services, and much more.

Getting Involved CDI is an outreach of the Kleine Gemeinde Mennonite Church, and is operated as a faith ministry. The institute depends fully on volunteers. The next school year runs from September 2011 to June 2012 and volunteers are needed for the following: school teacher, secretary, farm/garden worker, maintenance personnel, cook, dorm mother or father, or laundry worker. If you feel that God is calling you to serve at CDI, please see the contact information provided on the back of this brochure. Financial contributions are always welcome and put to good use. Your donation can be sent to the address on the back of this brochure.

The Chapel Connection... Chapel Church has been involved in mission trips to CDI along with providing financial support for several years. The Chapel Mission Committee has organized mission teams to travel to Belize to complete construction and repairs at the school. Along with doing the work, the mission trip participants also develop relationships with the community, staff and students. Creating these relationships and serving God at CDI has developed an ongoing mission program at Chapel. This summer, 2011, Chapel has sponsored two deaf students and their interpreter to come to Iowa. This relationship -building opportunity helps complete Gods circle of love between the heart of Iowa and Belize.
