1. What are Polymer reactions? Explain with at least one example for each reaction.

3. (a) What is thermoforming? Explain the principle of thermoforming process.
(b) Compare and contrast between thermoforming vacuum-forming processes. [10+6]
4. What is a cationic polymerization? Discuss different methods of cationic polymer-
ization with examples. [16]
5. Name some of the important fabrication processes for polymers. Explain in detail
the working principle and advantages of the processes. [16]
6. (a) Write the reactions for the stepwise polymerization of two phenol molecules
with one of formal dehyde to produce a phenol formal dehyde molecule and
explain.
(b) In general, how does the processing of thermosets in to the desired shape differ
from the processing of thermoplastics. Discuss. [7+9]
7. (a) What are acetals? Sketch the repeating structural unit of acetals and explain.
(b) Explain the reasons for the following properties in acetals.
