TESTING SPLIT PACKAGE TYPE AIR-CONDITIONING UNITS METHOD STATEMENT # ms5-4-21 INSTALLATION 1 2 The split package type air-conditioning units are to be installed to the sizes and locations shown on the approved shop drawings. The refrigeration and condensate drainage pipework will be run in the locations shown on the approved shop drawings and in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations and the approved method statements. The refigeration pipework will be pressure tested and evacuated in accordance with the contract specifications and to the satisfaction of the clients nominated engineer unless it is factory precharged pipework. The refrigeration and condensate drainage pipework insulation will be fitted as shown on the approved shop drawings and in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations and the approved method statements. The electrical supplies to the evaporator and condenser sections will be provided in the locations shown on the approved shop drawings and in accordance with the PLN regulations, the manufacturers recommendations and the approved method statements. Visual inspection of the installation shall take place after the fitting of the pipework, after the insulation of the pipework and after the completion of the installation prior to energisation and testing.

PREPARATION FOR TESTING OF PACKAGE AIR-CONDITIONING UNITS 1 At least one system of each type in each location shall be selected by the clients designated engineer as indicative of the performance of all systems of that type. The typical systems shall be tested as set out hereunder. The area being served by the air-conditioning equipment under test will be secured and vacuumed clean. Internal window shading will be provided by others. The air-conditioning unit filters will be cleaned.

TESTING OF PACKAGE AIR-CONDITIONING UNITS 1 The refrigerant gas charge in the system will be checked and adjusted to the optimum specified by the manufacturer utilising standard pressure gauges connected to the test points provided at the condenser. If required the clients designated engineer may witness this process. The room thermostats will be set at the design temperature and the fan speed adjusted to the speed recommended by the manufacturer to achieve the required Noise Criteria levels. The normally air-conditioned areas above, below and adjacent to the area under test will be similarly prepared and all air-conditioning set to work. Any exhaust or ventilation systems normally connected to the area under test shall be set to work as designed. The air-conditioning shall be left running for 72 hours to allow conditions to stabilise and building fabrics to settle. A recording thermohygrograph shall be introduced into the air-conditioned area under test and the temperature and humidity recorded for 24 hours in each of the spaces served by individual fan coil units. The resulting record strip will be witnessed by the clients designated engineer, labeled and copied to the commissioning report. A vane or hot wire anemometer will be used to measure the face velocity of the discharge air from each of the fan coil units at the selected speed to enable the fan air volumes to be calculated. These tests will be witnessed by the clients designated engineer and the results recorded and copied to the commissioning report. A sound level meter will be used to test the acoustic performance of each fan coil unit, with the speed control of the fan set on the manufacturers recommended speed, using the standard method of testing Noise Criteria specified with the particular meter. These tests will be witnessed by the clients designated engineer and the results recorded and copied to the commissioning report. A full set of test results for each type of system will be prepared and bound into the installation manuals as an appendix.
