THE Lea on the WorcestershireHerefordshire borders at Upper Sapey, near Tenbury Wells, is a residential farm covering more than 107 acres. It centres around a handsome grade two listed Queen Anne house and has a semi-detached staff cottage, detached stone built stables, mature grounds, a pond, five paddocks and deciduous woodland of more than 12 acres. This comprises lot one. Lot two includes farm buildings, some with development potential, good arable land and two acres of mature wood. Lot three is a roadside arable field. The Lea dates back to the 16th century and was enlarged in the 17th century. It retains many original features, such as a fine Charles II staircase and doors from the same period. The house was further enlarged in the early 18th century when the main Queen Anne facade was added together with what are now the main reception rooms. On the top floor is a priests hole. The house has been lived by the same family for the past 50 years and during that time it has remained been virtually unchanged.
GRADE TWO LISTED: The Lea, Upper Sapey, near Tenbury Wells, is a farm that is being sold in three lots.

WHEN the sales office at Eastbank Court, Worcester opened earlier this month Aspen hoped for a lot of interest. What the firm got was a huge success with lots of people keen to see the plans and four of them buying there and then. It was a real family affair, too, giving everyone the chance to have a look at the new facilities that will be available including the Piano Room, with a licenced bar and in phase two, the asalon treatment room. The idea is to create an environment where residents can relax and enjoy life to the full. One of the main comments was theres nothing like this around here. This is a testament to the unique positioning of the idea behind at Eastbank Court something between an apartment development and a hotel. Aspens extra care concept gives people the benefit of their own front door and independence, while offering routine domestic help as

Old toys proving their Turn to pages 38-48 worth with collectors Classifieds
A fashionable Italian-made felt doll was a big earner at Brightwells recent sale of childhood memories
HE Italian toy maker Lenci created the worlds most fashionable felt dolls in the 1920s and 30s commanding the most exclusive and sophisticated section of the market at a time when the French manufacturers were in decline. At Brightwells recent sale of antique dolls and toys an example wearing a winter costume with colourful felt appliqu sold for 500. Lenci used specially dyed and printed fabrics for their dolls whose outfits were based on the most stylish childrens costumes of the time and their dress consequently is all important. Two large bisque headed dolls represented the work of Jumeau, the most prolific and heavily collected of French makers. A 31 in high example with an open mouth and the characteristic heavy brows was sold for 2,900 by some very determined bidders while a 1907 example made 900 despite extensive damage to the head. German made bisque headed dolls were led in price by an appealing Kestner 146 in its original costume. It sold for 520 with a 29 in Kaulintz making 270. Many of the German dolls in the sale came from a collection formed in the 1960s by a Birmingham family. Fully jointed dolls made completely of bisque are rare because so few survived the nursery and this madea Kestner example, at 300, an attractive purchase. An Oriental baby dollsold for 200 while a mulatto Kammer & Reinhardt in its original box made 250. A key wound walking Gebruder Heubach sold for 210 and a large Simon & Halbig jointed girl with original wig and costume made 600. Meanwhile, a composition

headed shop window automaton attracted wide interest its eyes, mouth, chin and arms were articulated. Once costumed as an old Welsh countrywoman the figure had stood for decades in the window of a watch repairer in Talgarth, Powys. It sold for 500 despite its lack of clothes and key. An English waxed pedlar doll with a basket of wares made 440; a two-faced waxed girl selling (250) and a French type papier mache (400). A large box of 19th century dolls house furniture had lain undisturbed in the attic of a Herefordshire farmhouse since 1939 when, with other family treasures it was sent down from London for safekeeping on the eve of war. The furniture included a group of ivory pieces that made 210, despite damage, while an oak draughts table made120. A flower printed drawing room suite
with gilt detail made 260, a feather suite including a rare deportment chair (90), a small turned wooden dressing table set (100) and a dolls house family (380). Dolls houses and furnishings from other sellers included a London town house, from about1900 with an unusual working lift (300) and an 1880s house with an unusual variety of windows (also 300). A German made warehouse made 190; a fully stocked grocers shop by Gottschalk (600) and a Lines Brothers wood and tinplate motor caravan (320) Among metal toys an MG friction driven dark green racing car with Lt Col. Goldie Gardners signature on the bonnet in its original box 230 with an Arnold US Zone Germany clockwork liner also in its box selling for 230. A Shackleton Foden constructional scale model in its box and with tools made 290; a boxed Dinky Supertoys Foden Diesel eight-wheeled wagon, (210); an Ever Ready blue Guy van dating from the 1950s (250) and a group of three unboxed Supertoys lorries in excellent condition (270). Fourteen later Britains tractors in their original packaging sold for 420 and each of all these prices emphasised the importance of condition in a section of the market where playworn examples generally have to be sold in very large quantities. Constance King, the consultant who catalogued the sale, said: Most of our buyers have bought for many years and, as in so many areas of the market, there are few new enthusiasts to purchase the lower end items. The prices achieved by dolls and dolls house furnishings were however very encouraging and reflected an upward trend seen also at specialist fairs over the last year.
