How to meet our Lord in the Air

Rahab was a prostitute of Canaan (Joshua
2:1). She was operating an inn in the walled city
of Jericho. She was a sinful woman, a Gentile,
leading a life of immorality. As per Rev. 21:8,
immoral persons, males or females cant enter into
the kingdom of God, but will have their doom in
the lake that burns with fire and sulphur.
Why then was such a woman was exalted
beyond measure by the God of heaven? She was
accepted by the Almighty God and she became
His chosen one. God gave her a place in the
genealogy lineage of our Saviour Jesus Christ.
According to Matthew, she is in the family tree of
our Lord Jesus. She became the mother of Boaz,

who married Ruth. Thus, she is the great

grandmother of king David and our Lord is of the
same lineage.
One must know why the righteous God
should elate her so high. Obviously she was
responsible for her position. She showed her
impressive faith to the God of Israel. Joshua sent
two spies to check out the Jericho situation prior
to the siege of the city by his army. And Joshua
the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy
secretly, saying; Go view the land, even Jericho.
And they went, and came into an harlots
house, named Rahab, and lodged
there (Joshua 2:1). The king of Jericho came

to know about this and sent soldiers demanding

that she should surrender them, but she hid them
and then helped them to escape.
Why did she do that? If she had handed
over them to the kings men, king would have
greatly rewarded her. But she had chosen to risk
her life. The king would have killed her if he had
known her hiding of the spies. She did all that
because of her faith on the God of Israel. In her
words to the spies, as soon as we had
heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither
did there remain any more courage in any man,
because of you: for the LORD your God,
he is God in heaven above, and in earth
beneath (Joshua 2:11). She also said, I know
that the LORD hath given you the land, and that
your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the
inhabitants of the land faint because of you
(Joshua 2:9). This shows that she believed two
things: one is that the God of Israel is the Supreme
God of heaven, not just an ordinary god, and the
second one is she believed that the God of Israel
has given to his people the land of Jericho. These
two convictions speak of her faith in the living
God of Israel.
It is really good to have such a faith.
Hebrews 11:6 says, But without faith it
is impossible to please him: for he that cometh
to God must believe that he is, and that he is a
rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
However her faith alone would not have saved
her. The Bible tells that her faith was followed by
her works. She risked her life to be on the side of
the living God by hiding the spies. James writes

about this. Likewise also was not Rahab the

harlot justified by works, when she had received
the messengers, and had sent them out another
way? For as the body without the spirit is dead,
so faith without works is dead also(James 2:25,
26).
The Bible tells that by our faith in Christ
Jesus we can become the children of God. But
as many as received him, to them gave he power
to become the sons of God, even to them that
believe on his name (John 1:12). But this faith
will not do any good unless God see that faith as
a practical, work-oriented faith. John wrote in
2:23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the
Passover, in the feast day, many believed in his
name, when they saw the miracles which he did.
But this faith or belief was not honored by God.
The next verse 24 says: But Jesus did not commit
himself unto them, because he knew all men.
What a failure!
As Rahab believed that soon their kingdom
will become the kingdom of the invading Israelites,
many Christians do believe that soon all the
kingdoms of this world will become the kingdoms
of our Lord Jesus Christ. They believe what is in
Rev. 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded;
and there were great voices in heaven, saying,
the kingdoms of this world are become the
kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and
he shall reign forever and ever. Many Christians
also believe that before this prophecy is fulfilled
and the millennium reign of Jesus Christ ushers,
all the waiting believers will be lifted up in the

rapture. The rapture will take place any moment

in our present generation. Believing all this truth
will not help anyone, but belief should be followed
by works approved by God. The Lord Jesus
Christ clearly said, Not everyone that saith unto
me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of
heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father
which is in heaven (Matthew 7:21).
The Lord Jesus Christ promised, Let not
your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe
also in me. In my Fathers house are many
mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you.
I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and
prepare a place for you, I will come again, and
receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye
may be also (John 14:1-3). We have to go today
or tomorrow to the place that the Lord prepared
for us! We are in the end days.
However, all those who are believing to go
to that place must prepare themselves with their
works. Jesus clearly emphasized this: If any man
serve me, let him follow me; and where I am,
there shall also my servant be: if any man
serve me, him will my Father honour (John
12:26). If we serve the Lord heartily, the Lord
will fulfill His promise which is, Where I am, there
shall also my servant be. Jesus prayed for His
disciples saying, Father, I will that they also, whom
thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that
they may behold my glory, which thou hast given
me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of
the world (John 17:24).
The rapture-waiting believers are different

from the rest of the world. So Christ was once

offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them
that look for him shall he appear the second time
without sin unto salvation (Heb. 9:28). The Lord
comes to the mid-air and calls up only waiting
believers. According to Rev. 19:6,7 He is coming
as Bridegroom for His Bride. It is called the
marriage of the Lamb. The bride has to invite the
bridegroom always. That is why we here these
words, And the Spirit and the bride say, Come.
And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him
that is athirst come (Rev 22:17). Please notice
here that the bride is not saying to Jesus come,
but the Spirit and the bride are saying together
come Jesus. When a person is born again, God
gives him Holy Spirit to indwell him. But the Bible
gives the warning, Quench not the Spirit (1
Thess. 5:19) and And grieve not the Holy Spirit
of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of
redemption (Eph. 4:30). We are responsible for
this.
After you repented and born again and
received the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal
Saviour, you should not be careless and walk in
flesh. Only if we walk in Spirit we are free from
condemnation, There is therefore now no
condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus,
who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit
(Rom. 8:1). If the Spirit is grieved and quenched
then at the time of rapture only the bride will have
to say come Lord, and not the Spirit. Then you
will be disappointed. God commanded in the Old
Testament, The fire shall ever be burning upon
the altar; it shall never go out (Lev. 6:13). The

Spiritual fire should always burn in us. In the

parable of ten virgins in Matthew 25, the Lord
tells us that five foolish ones took their lamps but
did not take any extra oil with them (V. 3), while
the other five wise ones took extra containers of
oil for their lamps (V. 4). The Lord concluded
that the five foolish virgins who were not ready
with extra oil were refused to be taken in by the
bridegroom (V. 10).
So we have a warning that some people
will be found falling short of the expected
preparation and that foolish thing will disappoint
them. The message from Jesus to the people of
the church in Laodicea suits for several people of
the end days. I know what you have done; I

know that you are neither cold nor hot. How I

wish you were either one or the other. But because
you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I am going
to spit you out of my mouth! (Rev. 3:15, 16 GNB).
Dear reader, waiting for the Lord Jesus and
for the rapture is very important, but are you like
Rahab, who for the sake of Lords kingdom
showed her faith to God in action? Paul said, Yea
doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the
excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my
Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all
things, and do count them but dung, that I may
win Christ (Phil. 3:8). Prepare to meet thy God
(Amos 4:12).
