SCIENTIST *education.opportunities,jobs,income/rewards EDUCATION: -bachelor's degree, masters/doctorate degree, medicine, specialization RESPIRATORY THERAPY-an allied health-field involved in the assessment and treatment of breathing disorders. -also known as RESPIRATOR CARE PRACTITIONERS. -are specialists in:airway management RESPIRATORY THERAPISTS DO: -performs chest physiotherapy as ordered by the physician -test a patient's breathing capacity using peak flow meter and incentive spirometer. -work on pulmonary function test -connect patients who cannot breathe on their own to ventilators that deliver pressurized oxygen into the lungs -set-up ventilator parameters as ordrerd by the physician -check patients oxygen saturation -increase the patient's concentration of oxygen by placing an oxygen mask or nasal cannula on the patient and setting the oxygen flow at the level prescribed by the physician -extract arterial blood and perform ARTERIAL BLOOD GAS procedure
