Process Industry Practices Piping

PIP PN01NM0B02 Piping Material Specification 1NM0B02 Class 150, Alloy 400 (UNS N04400), Butt Weld, 0.000" C.A. Oxygen

PURPOSE AND USE OF PROCESS INDUSTRY PRACTICES In an effort to minimize the cost of process industry facilities, this Practice has been prepared from the technical requirements in the existing standards of major industrial users, contractors, or standards organizations. By harmonizing these technical requirements into a single set of Practices, administrative, application, and engineering costs to both the purchaser and the manufacturer should be reduced. While this Practice is expected to incorporate the majority of requirements of most users, individual applications may involve requirements that will be appended to and take precedence over this Practice. Determinations concerning fitness for purpose and particular matters or application of the Practice to particular project or engineering situations should not be made solely on information contained in these materials. The use of trade names from time to time should not be viewed as an expression of preference but rather recognized as normal usage in the trade. Other brands having the same specifications are equally correct and may be substituted for those named. All Practices or guidelines are intended to be consistent with applicable laws and regulations including OSHA requirements. To the extent these Practices or guidelines should conflict with OSHA or other applicable laws or regulations, such laws or regulations must be followed. Consult an appropriate professional before applying or acting on any material contained in or suggested by the Practice. This Practice is subject to revision at any time by the responsible Function Team and will be reviewed every 5 years. This Practice will be revised, reaffirmed, or withdrawn. Information on whether this Practice has been revised may be found at www.pip.org.

NOTES: 01 If a pipe schedule is shown under "SCH/RAT," it shall be adequate for the full flange rating. If "CALC" is shown, the pressure limit may be lower than full flange rating. 02 All butt-welded component thicknesses shall match the pipe thickness. 07 These valves have no flanges but are installed between line flanges with extra-length bolts. 08 Full-port valves shall be used if indicated on the P&ID. 09 Pressure and temperature rating can be limited by certain components permitted by this Practice. Manufacturer's recommended pressure-temperature restrictions shall be consulted. 12 These flanges shall be used only to match Class 300 flange connections at control valves and special equipment. 22 Stub ends with lap-joint back-up flanges may be used for temperatures up to 500F (260C). For higher temperatures, weld-neck flanges shall be used. 26 These check valves shall be used only if indicated on the P&ID. 62 These check valves shall be installed in a horizontal position with cover up or in a vertical position with upward flow. 63 These check valves shall be installed in a horizontal position with hinge pin vertical or in a vertical position with upward flow. 81 Integrally reinforced branch connections, tees, and reducing tees are permitted as an acceptable alternative branch connection. 99 The use of copper or nickel alloy materials should be considered in piping systems in which high-velocity and/or high-turbulent flows exist downstream of pressure let-down valves. Guidelines contained in CGA G-4.4, Para. 4.3.3.4 shall be followed for the selection of materials in such areas. 102 All material shall be cleaned in accordance with Compressed Gas Association Pamphlet G4.1, Compressed Gas Association Pamphlet G4.4, and ASTM G93. 103 The selection and use of austenitic stainless steels shall be consistent with the velocity limits recommended in CGA G-4.4.
