Excessive TA : It happens when the distance between the MS and Serving BTS is more or you are at the cell boundary. To reduce the TCH drop due excessive TA, best method is to use the down tilting of the GSM antenna (Both E & M). You can also limit the TA (I'm sure in NOKIA System) with the certain parameters settings. 2) Low Signal Strength: The possible reasons for low signal strength may be VSWR, any obstruction in front of GSM antenna, Low BTS power, etc. In general i have seen that if your parameter setting is OK this problem happens mainly due to Hardware issues (e.g. VSWR High, Antenna Connection Lost etc.) 3) Bad Quality: It may occur due to both high interference and your Hardware issue.

TCH Drop Rate Reasons:


1. Sudden Drop Intermittent Transmission, DIP Quality Degradation - Check for coverage & HO issues first. 2. Other Reasons Faulty TRU, Faulty CDU (but be careful, inter BSS handover lost is often counted as other reasons) 3. Low SS UL/BL/DL Often faulty TRU or antenna &feeder system. Faulty CDU4. 4. Bad Quality UL - Faulty antenna or feeder System, TMA/TMB Alarm - Check for CDMA/external interference/Hardware issues Sudden drop- check for coverage & HO issues first.
Verify your MAIO, HSN, FNOFFSET are correct first off. This can cause collisions if not set properly and will lead to sudden loss drops.

NOTE: According to Ericsson, Sudden loss of connection is valid if none of the


urgency state (that is excessive TA, low signal strength or bad quality) is indicated and the locating procedure indicates missing measurement results from the MS. Abis link is intermittent - Someone reset software in the BTS, from OMC, so all calls are dropped(= maintenance actions) - There is some hardware issues with the combiner, TRX or clock/controller, leading to degraded calls handling. - Mobile phone failure (but that won't appear in statistics, because all mobile phones don't just crash at the same time... but it can happen during the drive tests, your test mobile phone can crash / connection issues)

Problem: low PSR (Paging success rate) & LU(Location Update) Solution: Check LA boundary, keep one LAC for BSC , Remove BCCH/BSIC conflicts
within LAC.
