WE SHOULD NOT LEAVE THE QURAN 1

[002.083. And remember We took a covenant from the Children of Israel (to this effect):
Worship none but Allah. treat with kindness your parents and kindred, and orphans and
those in need; speak fair to the people; be steadfast in prayer; and practice regular charity.
Then did ye turn back, except a few among you, and ye backslide (even now).]

The holy Quran is discussing the agreement Allah made with the Israelites. It is
mentioned in the verse that We made an agreement with the children of the Israelites.
The agreement was that you would not worship any other but only Allah. It was the
agreement or covenant with the Israelites. In other words the agreement was that they

would not follow the teachings of any other personality but they were supposed to follow
the great life showing teachings of the Allah’s messenger. Because the code of life and
the morals of life what they were given it was given to them through their prophet by
Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala. And every prophet spreads the light of the great code of life
given to him by Allah. Since the Prophet Adam to the prophet (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa
sallam) there was only one message in different times and in different ways that the only
worship worthy entity is the Allah. It means that the system to lead our social life in
which there are remedies and recipes can only be devised by Allah. Other systems made
or devised by the common error committing human sense is unable to make such
everlasting and complete system in all its dimensions. That it used to be told from the
time Prophet Adam and to the time the prophet (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) that
follow the system of Taheed. And that’s all. If we are following the system of Taheed
we are getting the sweet fruits of our efforts. So we should worship the deviser of the
system not others. So it was the agreement of Allah with the Israelites to follow His
system and only to worship Him. And then the second step is

you should serve your parents. It was also the

agreement of Allah with the children of the Israelites. There is one hadith in the regard

the paradise lies under the feet of the mothers. Here from we can
understand that how important is the respect of the parents is! A man has to enter the
paradise through their parents. So first thing is to worship Allah. The second thing is to
serve your parents.
The holy Quran did not mention that this commandment is only for the Muslims.
No. Every man from whatever the religion he belongs to he should give high respect to
his parents. Allah says

when they
force you to associate something other than Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala or to take
something equal to Allah. He says that in that particular case
do not obey them. And after it the holy Quran says

accompany your parents in this world and

kind to them. Third provision of the agreement was also to
be kind to your relatives. And we can also learn this thing from the practical life of Imam
Hussain (AS). Most of us never think about the relationship with our relatives. We
become harsh with them. Even with parents. It is sheer violation of the holy Quran’s
teachings. It was also an agreement with the children of the Israelites. And the fourth
provision of the agreement of Allah with the children of the Israelites was
and to be kind with orphans. Just be kind to the orphan. No
religion has been mentioned here. A person before getting the age of puberty if his father
dies he is called Yateem in Arabic. Even his mother is alive he will be called Yateem.
But if mother dies and father is alive such child is not Yateem. After it the holy Quran

says the destitute – the poverty stricken. Allah says

the people who deserve to be given Zakat, one of them

are the Christians. Zakat has to be spent on those people who are in your religion. The
message is this that it is the bounden duty of the Muslims to save and help the mankind.
We should not see the difference of the religion. Whoever or wherever they are and if
they are in need of our any kind of help we should give them. That’s why Zakat is farz
(religiously mandatory) on us.
So every Maskeen and Yateem and needy needs to have our attention. And to
think and support and help them is our Islamic and Quranic bounden duty. Because
Allah is Rabb ul Alamin. And we the Muslims are global in our teachings of Islam. And
when we exercise righteousness with the people Allah says it is Sadaqa. When we give
some charity in order to help it is also called Sadaqa. This is also very important to
mitigate the sufferings found in humanity. Our religion is to save and protect the
suffering mankind and also to raise our levels of ego and soul. These deeds will be our
light on the Day of Judgment. All the humanity-surviving promises were taken from the
children of the Israelites. And it was the agreement of Allah with them. Allah says that
soon after their agreement with Him a few of you broke it. So Allah says

a lot you did not do according to the agreement except

few of you. And after it the Quran says that He made another agreement with you. And
it was that you should not shed the blood of each other. The children of the Israelites are
being discussed here. And don’t expel each other from their homelands. And Allah talks
to them that they accepted all the provisions of the agreement made with them by Allah.
In brief they broke the agreement.
The Ummah we are discussing they did all those things where from they was said
to refrain. That’s why Allah sent punishment on them on the whole nation. Because they
did not have Amer-Bil- Maroof. But being the Ummah of Muhammad we do have Amer-
Bil- Maroof. That’s why we are the best nation in the world. Because we do possess the
Amer-Bil- Maroof and Nahi-anil-Munkir. Previous Ummahs did not have this
phenomenon with them. When they would commit some sin nobody would come to stop
that sin. They used to let it go. They used to help each other to commit sins. This was
their biggest weakness. The people who do the things likewise the previous Ummah they
are by the design of Allah disgraced in this world let alone on the Day of Judgment.
They have azabun aleem for them in the hereafter life. The Law of Requital is noticing
every smallest possible notion or the motion of our mind. Nothing is hidden from Allah.
Our every action will be requited for.
The holy Quran also tells about the people who believe in one part of the Quran in
other part they don’t have believe. Allah never likes that some part of the agreement be
acted upon and other part of the agreement be left. So the Quran is also to be acted upon
fully. For the people who break the agreement with the people and who do not follow all
verses of the holy Quran there is no concession for them from Allah. Sever punishment
is waiting for them. Allah tells us about them

those are the people those who

traded this world for the hereafter. They sold their hereafter and gave preference in
buying this transient life. At the cost of hereafter they sold that and bought this life. And

the holy Quran says on the Day of Judgment

their punishment will not be eased. And they will also not receive any help. They will
not get the shafa’a (intercession). For the shafa’a (intercession) the last prophet (Salla 'Llahu
'alayhi wa sallam) or believers come for the shafa’a (intercession) in favour of the sinners. And
Allah will accept their shafa’a (intercession) and then they will go to paradise straight.
But the people who sold their hereafter in exchange with this sinful and mortal world,
Allah says their punishment will not be eased on the Day of Judgment. No one will come to help
them on the Day of Judgment. Allah says We gave a book to Moses. And made the messengers
follow his (Moses) path. Allah is telling that He made other prophets follow the path of Prophet
Moses. Because they all had one aim and that was to call people and serve Allah Subhana-Wa-
Ta’aala. So even the prophets who came after the Prophet Moses they followed the same path of
Prophet Moses and that is the same direction that Allah wanted them to go on. So Quran says to
son of Mary We gave him miracles. And only that Allah gave him miracles Quran says and We
supported him by the Holy Spirit. One of the miracles given to Prophet Moses that he could
bring the dead back to normal life. He could make a clay bird and blow life in him and they
would fly like normal birds in the air. He also could make deaf people hear like normal peoples.
Now Allah is talking to the Israelites that why they opposed the messenger whom Allah
had sent to them according to their desires? And some of you belied the messengers. And you
also were so arrogant. Some of you said that they were lying to you. And other group killed the
prophet. So according to the Quran the other generations of the Israelites will not get the right
path and they will not change their hearts. We are being told that what the Israelites did with the
agreement with Allah. So we should not do such foolish things. We may make our life hellish.

Further will be discussed in next lecture Inshallah!
