Teaching Approaches: 5 Lectures Per Week For 8 Weeks During The Summer Semester. Text book website: www.studentconsult.com General Objectives: 1. Differentiate between innate and acquired immune responses. 2. List the cells and organs of the immune system. 3. Describe the mechanism of the acquired immune response. 4. Differentiate between immunogens, Antigens and Vaccines. 5. List all types of immunoglobulins and their genes. 6. Describe the humoral immune response and B cell development. 7. Describe the bases of the HLA system and its applications. 8. Differentiate between T, B and NK cells. 9. Describe the mechanism of complement activation. 10. Describe the bases of antigen antibody reactions. 11. Describe the bases of immunohematology and blood banking. 12. List the mechanisms of immunodeficiency diseases. 13. Describe the mechanisms of Autoimmune disease. 14. List the mechanisms of Hypersensitivity reactions. 15. Describe the bases of Transplantation and tumor immunology. 16. Week 1: 1. Introduction. 2. Basic concepts and components of the immune system. 3. Antigen recognition and Antigen antibody reaction. 4. Antigen antibody reaction. 5. Antibody diversity. Week 2: 6. The T cell receptor. 7. Antigen presentation and the HLA system. 8. Antigen processing and presentation. 9. Lymphocyte activation. 10. Hematopoiesis. Week 3: 11. Cells and organs of the immune system. 12. T Cell development 13. B cell development 14. Cell to cell interaction in generating effector lymphocytes. 15. Immunological memory.
