-What are your goals? While MUN is popular with high school students college participation is comparatively lacking.. We want expand this popularity to college students as well. I also wish to create a event that will weather the very test of time itself and come back year after year. -How did you create the conference; were there certain criteria for the committees? Honestly, when we started working on MUNIST in 2007 and we wanted to focus on security themed councils. There is the fact that not everyone likes councils. So we decided to establish humanitarian committees to attract a wider audience. We also wanted to welcome both experienced and inexperienced delegates and believe we have made this easier with the dual theme. The Arab League is also something that we're proud of as it is not commonly simulated. And I'm especially happy with the highly interactive security council; where different committees can actually react to each other in real-time. -What is your favourite colour? Black. -Thats really dark dude. Real heavy stuff. What are your hobbies ? MUNing and writing some heavy beats. I'm a poet. A romantic poet. Ladies... -Who are your favourite poets? Cemal Sureya and Pablo Neruda. -Do you have any disfiguring features apart from your beard? I have initials of name in my arm. We also asked the chairs about our SG's unsightly, at least according to your faithful correspondent, facial hair. and this is a selection of some of the more delectable quotes;. Shave the mother. Its rather charismatic. He's such a poser. Haters gonna hate. I idolize it. Better than the hairy faced guy in the press. SHAVE EVERYTHING!.

We caught up with Ihsan and decided to ask him a few questions to help our delegates get to know him a tad bit better. -Ihsan, what makes MUNIST stand out amongst the other student conferences we've seen this year? Nice question. We work with an awesome team. They've proven themselves to be hard working and willing to sacrifice their own comfort for the success of the conference. The location of the conference is paramount: Istanbul is an amazing city. It is, though, more of a combination that makes this conference great; the hardworking team, the location, the dual theme (Security and Humanitarian), the interactive security council, and the 24/7 actions provided to the delegates. Events will continue off session as well as during the session.

A reminder to delegates: Do not approach the S.G. if he has not had his morning coffee, light stabbing may result.

League of Arab States The League of Arab States is a regional intergovernmental organization which was formed in Cairo on 22 March 1945 with six members: Egypt, Iraq, Trans-Jordan (renamed Jordan after 1946), Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Syria. Its aim is to draw member states closer together, protect their independence, sovereignty, and consolidate the affairs and interests of the member countries. The main issues of the league are social development, education, security, peacekeeping.

Lately, the League of Arab States has been heavily influenced by the Arab Spring; shattering the long standing status quos of associated Member-States. The delegates will be discussing the Arab Spring and its effects on the member states and their policies in League of Arab States throughout MUNIST 2011.

The Security Council The Security Council is one of the principal organs of the United Nations which is responsible for the maintenance of international peace and security. The Security Council held its first session on the 17th of January 1946 at Church House, London. The council has 15 members which consist of 5 veto-wielding permanent members and 10 elected non-permanent members with two year terms. In MUNIST 2011 Conference, the Security Council will have an open agenda.

North Atlantic Treaty Organisation The North Atlantic Treaty which was signed on 4 April 1949, led to the creation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, an intergovernmental military alliance. NATO is indispensable for global peace and security; as is evidenced by its competence in taking international decisions. For the MUNIST 20111 Conference, their agenda is open.

The European Union The European Union, an organization that stemmed from the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) and the European Community (EEC, is one of the most important institutions of the European Continent today with its 27 Member States. The EUs responsibility for implementing peacekeeping throughout the world and its policing of treaties are going to shape the hottest debates of EU Council in MUNIST 2011. At the same, time this issue will be strongly correlated with NATO which has began to be seen as accountable for the territorial defense of Europe and peace making since the Maastricht Treaty.

UNICEF Created on December 11, 1946, UNICEF always aimed to provide emergency food and healthcare to children around the world. The UNICEF Executive Council will discuss The Protection and Reintegration of Displaced Children into Post-Armed Conflict Societies and Providing Under-Age Refugees Access to Education in Conflict Affected Areas throughout the MUNIST 2011 Conference.

SPECPOL The Fourth Committee of the General Assembly of the United Nations on Special Political and Decolonization deals with diverse subjects, such as decolonization, Palestinian refugees, human rights, peacekeeping, outer space and public information. In MUNIST2011, The Establishment of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Used of Outer Space and A Review of Peacekeeping Operations Typology and Structure will be discussed.

SOCHUM The Social, Cultural, and Humanitarian Committee, generally deals with the social and humanitarian issues that affect people all over the world. Paying attention to the examination of human right questions, such as issues related to the youth, ageing, family, criminal justice and drug control can be shown as one of the significant duties of the Third Committee. Additionally, the advancement of women, the protection of children, the treatment of refugees and the promotion of fundamental freedoms through the elimination of racism and racial discrimination are found in discussion agendas of the committee. The honorable delegates of Third Committee will be discussing particularly The application of Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, specifically the right to food, in Southeast Asia and The Enhancing of the political participation of women in the Middle East.

Poolside Party:
Weve decided to go a bit classy to start the conferences social event calendar; a pool-side cocktail. This is your chance to stroll around the pool; subtly observing and making innuendo laden conversation with fellow delegates. The dresscode will be semiformal/formal. The buses will leave at 21:15. Swimming in the pool is strictly forbidden. Drink prices promise to be rather reasonable. It might be a bit breezy tonight so bring along something or someone to keep you warm.

IMPORTANT WARNING! Anoep likes oriental girls. Wed like to remind all delegates that drinking is not allowed on campus. Especially if youre an oriental girl. And Anoep is around.

Dear reader, Misinformation has been a frequent cause of international spats and disagreements in the international arena. Our prestigious team of selected journalists from newspapers from around the world will be providing you with an up-to-date, blow by blow newspaper through the rest of this conference. Enjoy, the Press Team
