Contracting Office Address Other Defense Agencies, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, Contracts Management Office, 3701 North Fairfax Drive, Arlington, VA, 22203-1714, UNITED STATES Description Special Notice DARPA-SN-11-08 DARPA Armor Challenge - Phase 3; CONCEPT PAPER SUBMISSION BEGINS: December 1, 2010; CONCEPT PAPER SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 4:00 PM EST, August 31, 2011; TECHNICAL POC: Dr. Judah Goldwasser, DARPA/DSO http://www.directedtechnologies.com/DARPA_ArmorChallenge.html The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agencys (DARPA) Defense Sciences Office (DSO) is continuing to invest in improving armor materials and designs. To identify promising new armor for military personnel and military vehicles, DSO is conducting an Armor Challenge - Phase 3 aimed primarily at inventors and small organizations that do not have the resources to initiate full-scale armor development programs. DARPAs Armor Challenge - Phase 3 invites concept papers for both (i) body armor designs and (ii) vehicle armor designs based on the metrics and specifications described in detail on the Armor Challenge - Phase 3 website, http://www.directedtechnologies.com/DARPA_ArmorChallenge.html. Participants in the Armor Challenge - Phase 3 will be selected based on the criteria listed on the website. Selectees will be invited to supply test samples of their novel armor designs to DARPA for independent evaluation. Funding will NOT be provided for Research and Development, but DARPA will reimburse selectees for the cost of manufacturing and shipping of the samples. DARPA will fund all ballistic testing at an independent laboratory to ensure that armor performance is judged consistently by an objective organization operating with recognized and objective standards. Samples that incorporate a unique design feature, and demonstrate superior performance against one or more threats, will be considered by DARPA for further development. Details regarding program planning and objectives, as well as guidelines for concept paper preparation, submission and evaluation, may be found at the Armor Challenge - Phase 3 website, http://www.directedtechnologies.com/DARPA_ArmorChallenge.html. Concept Papers will be accepted until 4:00 PM, August 31, 2011. Directed Technologies (DTI) has been tasked by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agencys (DARPA) Defense Sciences Office (DSO) to assist in the coordination and administration of the Armor Challenge. DTI is a Scientific, Engineering and Technical Advisor (SETA) contractor to the Defense Sciences Office and is bound by appropriate non-disclosure agreements.
