2008 Feb. 24, The National Assembly of People's Power unanimously chose his brother, Ral Castro, as Fidel's successor as President of Cuba. 2010 Aug. 7, Castro gives his rst speech to the Cuban National Assembly in four years. 2011 April 19, Castro resigns from the Communist Party central committee, thus stepping down as leader of the party. Ral Castro was selected as his successor.
