On Course for the Future Emergency Lockdown Plan

If a lockdown is needed, the school principal or designee will go on our school P.A. system and ring three (3) bells to declare that we have a Lockdown emergency. At that time, the bells will be turned off and the following sequence of events will need to occur to help us secure our campus as quickly as possible. If the emergency occurs when students are in class: TEACHERS SHOULD close and lock their doors and take attendance. Have students sit in as safe a place as possible, (in some rooms, this is on the floor). No outgoing phone calls are to be made unless directed to do so by the principal or designee. Document any inappropriate behavior observed. Teachers on conference period must report to an administrator at the Principals Office to be assigned appropriate responsibilities. Classroom teachers call the office if assistance is needed. Bathroom breaks will be provided by the personnel assisting the principal or designee. Staff will check on classrooms to provide assistance. No students leave the classroom until Principal or Designee gives okay. If the emergency occurs when the students are out of the class: TEACHERS not in their classrooms are to report to their classrooms and direct students to report to their next class or the closest available room. Use your judgment as to when your room is full and direct other students to the next available classroom when locking your door. Teachers need to take roll and record the names of any other students in their room. Document any inappropriate behavior observed. NO OUTSIDE PHONE CALLS are to be made unless directed to do so by the principal or designee. Call the office if assistance is needed. No students leave the classroom until Principal or Designee gives okay.

Emergency Lockdown Plan continued

OFFICE STAFF AND COUNSELORS are to lock down and secure their areas. You need to record the names of any students who remain in your area when it is secured. Once buildings are secured, report status to the principals office. NO OUTGOING PHONE CALLS are to be made unless directed to do so by the principal and/ or designee. Any students or outsiders escorted into the counseling office need to be identified and logged in on log sheets, including names, situation, where, when, and who brought them in. THE CAMPUS SECURITY, NOON DUTY AIDES AND CUSTODIAN in charge secure the gates and wait for the sheriffs, emergency vehicles, and/or district staff to arrive. Staff assistant/noon duty aide stationed at the front entrance (administrative building) will do the same. ALL CAMPUS SECURITY AND NOON DUTY AIDES will be contacted by the administrators to escort the students or outsiders to the office and to provide assistance to the classroom teachers. NO OUTGOING PHONE CALLS are to be made unless directed to do so by the principal and/or designee. When the Lockdown alert comes to an end, all the staff will be notified via the P. A. system and a long bell (all clear bell). Information regarding the emergency will be shared with the staff at the appropriate time.

On Course for the Future Lockdown After School Hours

If you believe there is a concern on or in the area adjacent to your school after school hours, please call Cindy DiPaola, the Supervisor of Security/Custodial, or Michael Conroy. Next you may be given direction to LOCKDOWN. If so, stay indoors, and wait for our call to suspend the Lockdown. If for any reason you cannot reach the above listed contacts, call the law enforcement agency with jurisdiction in your area. It is most important that they know you have staff/students on site, as may need to enter our site in their search. On Course for the Future Responses to Emergency Situations

BOMB THREAT Bomb threats are usually phoned into the main office. The administrator in charge will notify the superintendents office. A search of the specific or general area will be conducted by the administrator and staff assistant while waiting for the Sheriff Department to respond. The Sheriff Department will interview the person receiving the call and may assist in a search of the area if suspicious packages or items have been located. If necessary, classrooms or areas may be evacuated to the athletic field. It is very important not to cause panic. Proper procedures will be followed at all times and evacuation will take place when deemed necessary be the administrator in charge. GUNFIRE ON or NEAR CAMPUS Upon the sound of gunfire or presence of an intruder possessing a weapon such as a gun, the administrator in charge will notify the Sheriffs Department and the superintendents office. Teachers are to lock their doors and keep the students in the classroom until the danger has been eliminated. It is suggested that everyone lie down on the ground in order to be less of a target. Police cars will roll immediately in numbers. After a report of gunfire, school personnel need to use good judgment at all times in order to keep themselves and students as safe as possible until help arrives. 911 CALLS In the event of an emergency in the classroom, such as a serious injury, medical emergency, or suspicious individual, teachers are to call the front office immediately. The administrator in charge will then give direction, contact 911 for emergency response, and send assistance to the classroom. Immediately after contacting 911, the front office will then coordinate the contact of parents, pull the students records, and assign school personnel to provide directions for emergency personnel to the specific site of the emergency.
