As I start to write this a voice cries out, In the Red Corner we have dishtv and in the Blue Corner its TATASKY then a gong goes off and the battle begins.

Its been about twelve months since I signed up for Dish TV, to see what DTH in India looked liked. It was definitely better than the local Cable TV DTH Service Poll offering in Which DTH Service terms of do you subscribe to? picture and sound quality and the Top of Form The PSR Method EPG guide was a welcome addition. Talk your way TataSky toSUCCESS! What it lacked was the bouquet of channels, which has recently improved. But when I paid for this service back then I knew that somewhere in the future another player would be there, fighting to get at my Rupees. DishTV None

We now have TATASKY. Many people like me must be wondering Show results whether they should stay with dishtv or switch to the new service. To make this decision easy for our readers we are happy to announce that we will be posting an in-depth review of both the services soon. In the mean time we open this forum foryou to tell us about your experiences with either of the DTH services or with both of them. One says, Entertainment will never be the same again and the other claims its, the future of TV Entertainment. These are big promises and do they stand up to it? Let us also state that we are completely unbiased towards either of the service providers and what you read below is honest opinions and feedback from subscribers and viewers of these two DTH services. Achin Go East or west Tata Sky is the best......with out any second thought TataSky customer service is amazing, fantabulas,....I am proud to be a Tata Sky subscriber. Ajay The basic reason for people switching over to DTH is due to Cablewalas pathetic service and high charges. Hopefully, DTH providers will solve both these problems. I bought TataSky on 29 Aug 2006 and by dealer told me that activation will be done by 5th of September and if I want early I have to call the customer care and tell them, I requested the customer care to do my installation by 2nd September as I was going out for 1 week, but in spite of making so many calls and complaining, they came on 5th only, my mother was there at home and she never understood what the engineers told her, when I came back I again had to call them to show me how to do it, so beware you cannot demand. A.Pradeepkumar I purchased Tatasky 3 days back, and I have to say, its really good. Its really DVD quality video and CD quality audio. I purchased the digicomp (thats what they call the set top box) at 8pm and the next day by 11 AM the technicians had installed the dish, everything was working fine and he was kind enough to give me a full demo on the usage before he left. I have to say, just go for Tatasky. They DO have less channels now, but they have just launched. We have to give them some time. Also, all channels added in the next 3 months will be shown free to all subscribers who have availed the introductory offer. Krishna Good news to all the Tata Sky subscribers, very shortly the entire zee bouquet will be added to the existing channels, may be at no extra cost... Way to go Tata Sky!!! Rachan TataSky - Great Service! True DVD Quality Picture! CD Quality sound (but mono, not stereo). Engineers coming to install very courteous and so is the helpline. Always willing to help you with any question or issue you may have. Contact them directly if you want to go for TataSky. Dealers are only interested in selling and may mislead you. Schedule the installation yourself with TataSky helpline. Don't let the dealer do that for you. TataSky help-line is very clear about what is being provided and what is not. No false promises. Their pay movie channels are for Rs.75 a movie. This in my opinion is expensive. My DVD Library charges me the same. So why pay TataSky Rs.75. However the movies on pay channel are in stereo and one can enjoy surround sound if you have a home theatre sound system. The remote control quality is excellent. You will enjoy using it. The reminder feature is a good feature, very useful if you want to plan your entertainment schedule. Multiple audio language choice ( Hindi, English, Tamil etc ) on channels like NatGeo, Discovery and almost all Kids channels. Not a big fan of Interactive features. Haven't used them. Cannot share my experience on the same. In case you need to understand how to use the various features and basic usage, there is a dedicated channel, which gives tutorials about each feature in detail in a entertaining simple fashion. 24x7.

Bharat D I am using TataSky.... In the Indian market it is hard to find that much good customer service and quality of transmission.... HIGHLY Anil Chadha I am planning to buy TataSky but my friend and me are confused. They are giving 3 or 4-month free channels all they have but what about after that? if they increases the rent then we have to pay. My advise to TataSky is they have keep 100Rs. monthly rent and 50 channels free of our choice and 5Rs. for each channel for extra choice. What do you think? But just with the good sound and picture quality would anyone understand other regional languages... i mean their available channels. Ajay Mourya Dish TV could not deliver the products it has promised. News Active, Sports Active and enhanced inter active Menu seems to be not working until now for many users. The upgrade software seems to have some flaws and Dish TV is unable to implement this feature for all users, as they are not using unique decoders/STB. Still lot of tall talking and much of advertisements goes on though they could not offer the services to all customers alike.

Chandran It is 6 months since I became a Dish TV subscriber and I am having a very bad experience. I am cursing the moment I opted for it. Their picture quality and sound is Ok, but their customer service is pathetic. Our old MTNL/BSNL service I think was better than this. Dish TV employees just dont do anything with customer requests. First of all it is with great difficulty that one is able to get connected to their customer care dept. and then the executives dont know what they are speaking about. Moreover they are rude and nothing happens to customer complaints/requests. Dish TV system is so absurd that if one opts for a yearly payment scheme, he is not allowed to pick any other channel (outside the bouquet) for a term lesser than one year. This means that the customer does not have the option to pick and choose the channels he wants to watch and for the duration he wants to subscribe.I am just waiting for my subscription to get over to switch to TataSky. Customer care and service engineer are really well trained by Tata. The system adopted in installation and activation is fantastic. But I do not what happens in future but for time being good-bye cable wallah. Nagaraj TataSky is backed by Star which is far more professional and will bring in far more international channels than Zee which backs DIshTV. On 13th, I received a call setting up an appointment for 14th at 1100h. No one turned up that day or the next. I again rang TATASKY on 15th and after usual apologies, they assured that someone will definitely arrive by that evening. Zilch. I again lodged a complaint on 17th for which I was given a complaint Number. Nothing moved. Finally, today on 19th, a courier arrived with the box. Asked for Rs 4550/-. I said, nothing doing till the installation is done. I rang up TATASKY again and intimated that the set-top box has arrived. No assurance by the person except that it will be done at earliest but maybe after Diwali. But no one asks Tata Sky that, what will be the subscription charges of channels after 3 months? Because you cannot shift from Tata Sky to any other service provider once you opted for Tata Sky. It was really surprising that within 30 minutes I have received a call from the service center for the installation and the engineers were at my door step within next hour. Till yet everything is O.K. Picture & sound quality is superb. They should reduce the rates of Movie on Demand from Rs.75 to Rs.30. Not only this they should start all there 4 showcase channels with a different movie every hour to make it more popular. They should also provide FM audio in their Music section. There should also more English channels to be added. Tata should also have the DVR digicomps like Dish TV, along with a digicomp upgradation schemes for the existing customers. There SMS system is useless they do not respond. customer care executives appear to be foolish and you lodge complaints to your local dealer and not to a central station. 2) Dish TV supplies more channels per satellite transmitter resulting in PIXELLATION. Believe me clear channels on my cable TV is much better to watch than dish TV. Pixellation is much more evident in certain channels and typically surrounds moving objects in scene. I bought the Digicomp from a local dealer who I have to admit I know because I have done business with him before. Before I got home with the Digicomp, the dealer informed me that he had called TataSky on my behalf and had registered my Digicomp ID. Half an hour later I was called by a very courteous TataSky representative who informed me that my Digicomp would be installed by 1100 hrs the next day. At 1100 I received a call from the engineer who said he was delayed and that he would only be able to arrive by 1430 hrs. At the dot of 1430 the engineer was there and set up the minidish and installed the digicomp, I have had pleasurable viewing since. The only issue is that when I start up the digicomp the picture moves with halts, this is solved when I change the channel. I am given to understand that this is because I have a Thomson and not a Humax STB. However I am reluctant to change since I am a strict observer of the first law of computer engineering, if it works dont mess with it! Waiting for the audio channels and other channels to be added. There will be a hearing on the 21st November to sort out the Tata, Sun TV issue, Sun should be on

I am using Dish TV since last one month, I have chose DishTV after a lot of research on the web and reviewed the quality of both service provider in one TV. In my view these are the following point where DishTV is better then TataSky 1. TataSky is offering 103 channels whereas DishTV is offering 125 Channels. and the DishTV STB size is aslo smaller then the TataSky STB. 2. The Installation charges for DishTV is (2950 + 200 + 300 = 3450) and next 5 months viewing is free whereas you pay (3000 + 1000 = 4000) for TataSky (a savings of INR 650) 3. The monthly charges are same in both cases after six months. 4. And the most important, if you are not able to cont. your monthly charges after six months, you will not be able to see any channel if you are a TataSky customer, but you can enjoy all the FTA (Free to Air Channel) in DishTV Umesh I took the installation of Tata Sky looking at the name involving TATA will provide what they promised. But I was wrong for the following. 1. They promised the Sun network will be added to the group latest by Nov 2006 but till now we can see the SUN only on SKY and not on TATA SKY. 2.They had advertised about the Radio Channels on their brochures - When the Engineer came to install the Box he was not even aware ot this!!!!!!. When I inquired at the Call center ( Unfortunately we have only option to contact Call center and not the direct personnel from Tata Sky) they were also instructed to answer evasively. 3. The monthly charges were to be Rs 200 and now it is up by 50% and it is 300!!!!!. So Customer is taken for granted and for a ride!!!!. 4. Tata Sky promised to come out with packaged channels to suit the Budget of individual customer- which is still a promise!!!!!. 5. I came to know these people even block the channels which are "free to air " if the subscription is not paid- this is illegal. What else you need to Say a Big TATA to TATA SKY? D.B.Bhat TATA SKY is the best in regards of DTH. If you raise questions regarding price i think DishTV is charging 210 for basic package and apart from that it has service charges and other hidden charges. Apart from that if you want to have some other packages which includes different regional channels u need to pay extra 20 or 50 rupees depending on your package. TATA SKY signal quality is far better and so its features. Its still new in the market and in the coming days will surely come out with flying colors. SUN network will be very soon included in TATA SKY only that a merger plan is going on. It includes the complete STAR package which is no where there in DishTV. The showcase which is the PPV part of it still needs improvement and will be done most probably by Feb 2007. The software developed for TATA SKY by NDS (Newscorp) Ltd. is more stable and

user friendly as they have already developed STB softwares for a hell lot of European and US biggies and are pro in this field and TATA SKY promises on the same line. The Interactive Games feature is very interesting and easy to use and learning based. Choosing your own service for the Bouquet and not going by the predefined Bouquet is something called CAS (Conditional access system) which the Indian Govt. is still trying to implement however taking time as its a market full of piracy as u all know, but it will be done soon and then TATA SKY will be the first to do it as it has a highly protected verifier and CA based smart card. It was not done and on 10-1-07 I was given a date as 11-1-07 for installation. On 12-1-07 I called up Tata Sky to know that they have shortage of installer and it would take another 2-3 days for installation. Can you imagine a company like TATA falling on their own commitments, to me it is not surprising, IT IS AN INDIAN COMPANY. We got our DTH service from the dealer a week back, and there is some installation problems. We have been calling the Customer Service people for 4 days!! and no one is coming to fix the issue!!! Suresh I have been using DishTV for over a year now. I have gone through the worst customer service, you can ever imagine since day one. I still stayed on because I had paid 1 year's subscription. Again, I renewed as TataSky hadn't been launched. Now reading so many people's positive remarks about TataSky, I think I will go for it soon. The latest regards to DishTV, there seems to be a security breach in their database as all subscribers received a mail regards to pay $55/- to subscribe to get Adult channels for a year which is all a big fraud. I think we all dissatisfied customers of DishTV should lodge our complaints with the Consumer forum. Lets all get together and fight them to get value for money and peace of mind. I am comfortable with Hindi, but I guess I ran into someone speaking pure hindi :) and had a bit of difficulty following the person. Anyway back to Sky , I am enjoying the service and with online recharge vouchers available through indiaplaza.in , no complaints there as well. I would recommend TATA Sky to everyone.

Chaitanya DISH TV has to make their Dealer / Agent base very strong. I have a strange problem. I paid monthly charges for my connection to local dealer, but he did not pay the same to the DISH TV, and my channels got barred. I lodged a complaint with DISH TV, but there is no action against the so called dealer / agent so far after making a complaint after 4 days. Pathetic services... Jai I use Dish DTH and it is the BEST in terms of pricing, number of channels offered, variety of channel and customer service. Paul I have dishtv connection. I have pay monthly rent through net in my account, renewal fails. Recently I paid Rs.300 for March 2007 subscription, my package was renewed only up to 15th March. About after sales service lots of improvement is required from this new segment of services. Industry insider says that both the service provider are still loosing money. Tata sky is making loss of Rs 2cr a day. Where as Dish TV is making loss of about a crore per day. Let us enjoy this digital delivery so that the high handedness of our neighborhood cable operator is checked. for all these years we have been at the mercy of our cable operator. TATA SKY is number one in DTH services, but is lacking behind in Sun Network which is major absentee. TataSky can blow up the markets with adding of Sun Network it can capture market. I did not know if the LCD do not have Pal BG in out. I had to buy a devise called Pal to VGA converter from Mumbai market for Rs 1800/ to make use of LCD. Shagy I happen to be one of those hapless consumers in India, who has been really taken for a ride by DISH TV India as also its dealers and the so called Customer care. Dish TV India apparently believes in the real definition of KUSHT MAR (alias Customer, in their parlance). I had paid one of the Ahmedabad's dealers a sum of Rs 4,115/- for installation of a Dish TV Connection at my residence. The Dealer made it a point to encash the cheque right the next morning at 10:05 AM (right about the time the banks open) however, on his own sleepy pace and after a lot of cajoling, landed up with the Equipment on 14th April, and that too after a lot of cajoling and coaxing. I thought that my ordeal was over, but alas, little did I know that it was only a beginning. Even after a lot of chasing with their customer care as also with the dealer, till date (25th April), the sloppy company has not yet activated the Connection. Mr Dealer has now stopped taking my fone calls and the Customer care cares too hoots about ones complaints. I made it a point that the Cutomer care gives me a complaint number also, but even after lodging a complaint and getting the number on 15th of April, they have

hardly done anything in this regard and i still have their Equipment installed like a White Elephant in my house without any activation. This despite the fact that the Customer care executives, in their own sweet glib talk, keep on baosting that the connection gets activated within 24 hours of the Connection. So poor is their followup on the grievances that the customer care doesnt even give an automated response on its official Customer care email ID in response to the mails sent from the Customers End. With the kind of poor response the firm gives to the Customers, I would advise all the prospective Customers to be wary of the services and the tall claims made by the Company. Its been 15 days that the money has been paid and there has been no service activation at all at this end. The Customer care is poorly organised and there is hardly any follow up on the same at Dish TV's end. PEOPLE BEWARE !!! Vishal Dish tv customer service very very very poor. They don't have knowledge what they are saying. After paying in cash they are taking more than 72 Hrs. to reactivate the card. Tata sky is very good service provider better than other DTH installer, because after sales they are not interested to listen their customers complaints. And in Tata sky if you have any complaints then call center executive first try to solve it on phone call because the engineer visit is chargeable it proves that Tata sky is not robbing to customer. I can say this because I am a service person of TATA SKY LTD.
