README December 10, 1998 See History.doc for a listing of fixed bugs and new comands added.

Hard Disk Layout

The setup program installs files on your hard disk as follows: OCX's and some other files are placed in the \Windows\System directory (Windows '95) or \WinNT\System32 directory (Win NT). Xform300.dll is placed in the \Program Files\Common Files\Autoship Shared directory. Ahydro.exe, Model32.exe, Partplt.exe, the documentation files, and Unwise.exe (the uninstaller) are placed in the directory you designate during setup. The sample run files are placed in a subdirectory to the one designated during setup, named Sample. Note that any copies of xform300.dll, nurbs300.dll and plate300.dll that are in the Windows System or System 32 directories should be deleted.

Changes Since Release 5.0.1

Add Command has a new switch /vcg for delta and rat parameter. Graphs may be generated as either half page or full page via settings in the Setup Menu. Ra /Lim peforms further checks when an undefined limit item is encountered. The limit will be reported as pass if a passing value can be found, otherwise <und> will be reported. Longitudinal strength will report the point load weight as a straight, vertical line in the graph. The Report Editor Page Setup now shows the currently selected paper size, plus allows you to change the page margin, start number, orientation and header and footer. Damstab Command The Damstab command has been substantially reworked and improved. In particular, the IMO probabilistic calculation engine for cargo vessels has been rewritten. Now this program feature can handle the vessels with length of both over 100m and within 80m to 100m. The following new features have been implemented in this release: 1) New switch /prog . With this switch, the engine will do progressive flooding, thus providing a more realistic s value. Otherwise, the s value will go to zero as soon as the first flood point is immersed under the waterplane; and 2) Switch /Report:type feature. With parameter "verbose" for the report switch, detail calculations for p, b and r values for single and multiple zones will be generated in an ASCII file with extension .pf. This file will have the same name, and be in the same directory, as the gf file. In addition, the engine will report detailed calculations for each scenario with tanks to be damaged, heel angle, range, c value, gzMax and s value in a ASCII file with extension .sc. This file will have the same name, and be in the same directory, as the gf file. 3) Multiple Zones. The IMO probabilistic calculation engine can calculate the attained index for multiple zones of more than four single zones. The engine will automatically stop its calculations when the attained index for the multiple zones is zero. The switch /group: is not required for this calculation. Notes: 1. The switch /prog initates a set of lengthy calculations, which may be a problem on slow computers.

Therefore, we suggest that the use of this switch be limited to validation of results when the attained index is lower than the index required by IMO. 2. The IMO probabilistic calculation is very complicated. On some rare occasions the engine may not be able to handle a particular case. We therefore strongly recommend that the user use the switch /Report:verbose to determine whether or not the IMO probabilistic calculation engine has performed the calculation correctly. The .pf and the .sc test files will report if there is a problem with the analysis. 3. The Damstab calculation is very dependent on zone definition, and especially the values defined in the /HBHD and /LBHD parameters. Therefore, it is suggested to specify these values to three decimal places (as per the data read from ModelMaker). In addition, when a single zone contains abrupt changes of breadth or height, the single zone should be divided into a number of zones. Otherwise, the IMO probabilistic calculation engine may not be able to provide an accurate result. Please refer to the SOLAS publication: "Explanatory notes to the SOLAS regulations on SUBDIVISION AND DAMAGE STABILITY OF CARGO SHIPS of 100 metres in length and over" for the definition of zones. 4. The IMO probabilistic calculation engine in this release cannot handle sloped bulkheads. This limitation will be removed in a future release. 5. Once the attained indices for a series of single zones are calculated, the switch /group: can be used to calculate the attained index for a specified set of zones. Angle list assigned in Ra command Angle parameters in the Ra command now refer to absolute angles, not angles measured from the initial angle. If no angle parameters are given, then the Ra command will begin at the initial angle and progress by the angle list as defined by the Angles command.

Changes Since Release 5.0.0

New command Llimit (5.0.1) Llimit allows definition of Allowable Bending Moment and Shear Force for comparison in LS output. Refer to the Help system for usage. New switch in LS command (5.0.1) The new switch /Max[:port] causes LS to compare bending moment and shear force to allowable maximums set by the Llimit command. New floodpoint, PFLD (5.0.1) A new floodpoint type, Pfld, has been introduced to handle protected floodpoints. Refer to the Help system for usage. New keyword, Pfld, in Limit command (5.0.1) The Limit command now accepts a new angle keyword, Pfld, for use with the new protected floodpoint type, PFLD. Refer to the Help system for usage. New parameter, Pfld, in Status command The new Status command parameter, Pfld, shows the heights of protected flood points above the current waterplane. Refer to the Help system for usage.

Report enhancement (5.0.1 beta 1, beta 2 and beta 3) Report format now fits A4 size (210mm x 297mm) paper. New parameter (N), in Page command (5.0.1) Page (N) indicates the page number at which to begin the report. The input number, N, will appear on the first printed page and subsequent page numbers will be incremented by 1. New Permeability Command (5.0.1) The new PERMeability command is used to set a specified tanks permeability, or restore its original permeability as defined in the GF file. Refer to the Help System for usage. New Ability to choose size of the graphs (5.0.1) The new feature allow you to choose a size (1/2 page or full page) of the graphs from Setup/Graph menu on the main screen.

Changes Since Release 5.0.1

Camber command Camber command was changed significantly. Six different types of camper are now possible: Regular, Circular, Parabolic, Straight, Ellipse, Flat (Straight with flat part). Format of the command is: camber (type) L1[, FlatPart] @ H1 [L2 @ H2 Ln @ Hn], L1, L2, , Ln longitudinal coordinates of the points where camber heights H1, H2, , Hn are defined FlatPart can be used only for Flat type of camber to define flat width of the camber. It is the same for all locations. Following are some examples: 1. camber (flat) 0.2, 3 @ 11.820 0.4 @ 19.700 0.7 @ 25.610 Straight camber will be created with specifed heights (0.2, 0.4, 0.7) in the locations specified (11.820,19.700, 25.610) with flat part width equal (1.5 - which is half of 3, the second parameter in the first group of parameters). 2. camber (circular) 0.2 @ 5.240f 0.4 @ 10.150f 0.7 @ 15.00f Circular shape camber will be created with heights 0.2, 0.4, 0.7 in locations 5.240f, 10.150f, 15.00f. If only one parameter is used, the given height, H, will be applied to the section with the greatest breadth, the camber height for all other sections will be a proportion of H, based upon the breadth of the section. It is possible to define simple camber from the Edit - Camber menu option. Choose the type of camber and set the maximum value (and Flat part value for "Flat" camber) in the form. TUBE command has a new switch "FIT" The /Fit option trims off the part of the Sounding Tube which is below the lower edge of the tank.

Format of the command: TUBE X1,Y1,Z1 X1,Y2,Z2 Xn,Yn,Zn [/FIT: (name_of_component)], X,Y,Z coordinates of the sounding tube, from the most bottom point to the top. name_of_the_component name of the component to fit the sounding tube to. Following is an example: tube 20.21, -4.05, 0, 20.21, -4.05, 6.1 /FIT: (Settling.P) 20.21, -4.05, 0 coordinates of the bottom of the tube, 20.21, -4.05, 6.1 coordinated of the top of the tube /FIT: - the switch, Settling.P the name of the component to trim the tube to Without "Fit" switch the command works as usual. The function is also available from the Edit - Sounding tube menu option. To have a tube trimmed to a tank, pick the part to contain the tube from the Part Name list, pick the component to be used to trim the tube from the Component Name list and check the "Fit to the Component" option.
