Harris Teeters Selling of Smithfield Products:

A Moral Question
Should a person or company be supported that mistreats, abuses and injures others? Smithfield - the worlds largest pork plant, located in Tar Heel, NC - is mistreating and abusing its workers, resulting in injuries and firings. Harris Teeter helps Smithfield make lots of money by selling their products. Isnt this supporting the mistreatment, abuse, injuries and firings? Harris Teeter is a good company; it can be better. Help Harris Teeter Do the Right Thing!

Recent Federal Courts Have Found Smithfield Liable for Threats, Intimidation and Violence Against NC Workers. For example, Smithfield:

Has used violence, threats and intimidation against workers to suppress their rights; Creates a dangerous workplace with fast line speeds and inadequate training; Routinely fires injured workers and denies their Workers Compensation claims; Stirs racial tensions between African-American and Latino workers.

After 10 years on the job, Quincy Harvey was fired while on medical leave after tearing his shoulder rotator cuff. Smithfield has denied him Workers Compensation.

Why should Harris Teeter help end worker abuse at Smithfield?

Teresa Nieto had a 200 pound frozen hog carcass fall on her back. The company threatened to take her to court if she reported the injury and sought Workers Compensation.

We shop at Harris Teeter, and we care about where our food comes from. We will not swallow pork thats packaged with the abuse of NC workers. Harris Teeter sells numerous products from Smithfields Tar Heel plant (USDA Est. Code 18079). Much of Harris Teeters own branded bacon (that labeled with USDA Est. Code 79C) comes from pork originating at Smithfields Tar Heel plant.
