At a corner of a fish shop, Pn. Fatimah was looking for the fresh fish. While Mrs. Ratnasari was busy looking for cooking materials that she should put in her cook. Suddenly, she heard a familiar voice around her. Pn. Fatimah : Why is it the price is so expensive? I do not bring much money with me. Its ok. I will buy fish from another shop. It is no use for me to argue with you here.

Pn. Fatimah then walked away from that shop. As Mrs Ratna noticed that she was her neighbour, she approached her.

10

Mrs. Ratna

: Hye Fatimah! How are you?

Pn. Fatimah : Oh, it is you! Hay Ratna! I am fine. How about you? Mrs. Ratna : I am fine too. Thank you. What happened to you just now?

Pn. Fatimah : It was about that seller. He was not a good seller. Mrs. Ratna : Really? Why did u said that?

Pn. Fatimah : Before this I always bought fishes from there, but today I realize that the fish are not fresh like before. Mrs. Ratna : How did you know that?

Pn. Fatimah : Because the fish is smelly and can you see the colour of the fish? Mrs. Ratna : I see. Yes, you are right. But then what happened?

Pn. Fatimah : I told him to change the fish to the fresh one because if he do not do that, nobody will come and buy his fish. Then, he starts to get angry with me. And he starts to nag at me and tell me to go and find another fish shop if I do not want to buy him. Mrs. Ratna : Oh my God! He should not act that way. He should be thankful as someone willing to tell him for his best. Why is a person like him exist in our country? We should accept others opinion in order to make sure we will do our best in our business. Pn. Fatimah : Yes, you are right. Its not easy for us to have someone who gives his or her opinion honestly. Furthermore, there is no one who have enough courage to criticize other person. Mrs. Ratna : Yeah. As a Malaysian, we should support our community so that everyone will be enjoying someones success. We should support each other right? Pn. Fatimah : Yes. Moreover, we live in a peaceful and having different races country. Malaysia is a melting pot of many different cultures, food and many more.

: Thats why our prime minister, Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak ask us to build 1 Malaysia spirit so that we will live in peaceful and respecting each other. We will get to know other races cultures well too.

Pn. Fatimah : Hmm. Yes. Then we will understand others and we can avoid fighting, right? Mrs. Ratna : Absolutely. So, what do you want to cook for today?

Pn. Fatimah : I am going to cook asam pedas, how about you? Mrs. Ratna : Wow! Thats nice. I am going to stay alone today. I dont think I will be cooking because its just me. My husband was going out for outstation. Pn. Fatimah : Hmm. Why not you come and having lunch at my house? I am alone too. Come and accompany me, please? Mrs. Ratna : Really?

Besides, I can learn how to cook Malay dishes from you especially my favourite asam pedas. Pn. Fatimah : Oh! Thank you. Sure. Why not? Mrs. Ratna : What do you usually use when you cook the food? I guess its not really different from us, the Indian right? Pn Fatimah : Yeah. We usually use coconut milk in our food. Just like you, we eat spicy foods too. But we use different seasonings. Mrs. Ratna : Yes. We also eat rice like Malays. We use chillies in our food.

Pn Fatimah : How did you cook the dish? Mrs. Ratna : Do you know that, one of the great things about Indian cooking is that it rarely requires much last minute attention. It also needs in the way of special equipment. The proper blending of spices is an essential part of Indian cooking. Indian cooks grind fresh spices for each dish, using a stone called a sil and batta, or a heavy stone or cast -iron mortar and pestle. Pn. Fatimah : Thats making our way to prepare food is about the same. Mrs. Ratna : Yeah. Because it generally from India. We originally came from there before we live here in Malaysia and our ancestors bring the culture from there. Pn. Fatimah : But Malays usually use coconut milk in our cook, especially when we are making cake or sweets.

13

Mrs. Ratna

: Have u ever eat chapatti?

Pn. Fatimah : Yes. I had eat once. Mrs.ratna : We used tava or tawa to cook for roasting spices and cooking chapattis and other flat bread. This tava or tawa is a kind of grill pan used by us. Pn. Fatimah : Thats good. Mrs. Ratna : Can I ask you something?

Pn. Fatimah : Sure. Mrs. Ratna : I heard that your husband is a Chinese Muslim?

Pn. Fatimah : Yeah. Why? Mrs. Ratna : How did you two managed yourself? I mean the way you two eat together. Pn. Fatimah : At first, he was having difficulties to eat the Malays dish becau se he was not used to eat spicy food. Mrs. Ratna : Then? How you overcome the problem?

Pn. Fatimah : I studied about the Chinese food. Then, i started to learn how to cook the Chinese food. I realised that its not really difficult to cook them because it is easier to prepare for him. Besides, Chinese food are healthier. This is because of they usually steams the food. They always eat non-oily food. Mrs. Ratna : Hmm. Thats why your husband has fit body.

Pn. Fatimah : Thank you. Come. Lets eat together. Mrs. Ratna : Sure. Let me help you take those plates.

Pn. Fatimah : Do u need cutlery? Mrs. Ratna : No, thanks. I will just use my hand.

14

Pn. Fatimah : Do u always eat using your hand? Mrs. Ratna : Yes. We used to eat using hand. And we also used banana leaves on our plate. This is a traditional culture that we still use until now. Pn. 15

Mrs. Ratna

: So you are not going back to your hometown?

Pn. Fatimah : Not now, maybe after 100 days of her dead. Mrs. Ratna : 100 days?

Pn. Fatimah : Yeah, when someone died. We cant cries. It is forbidden for us. We will bury the body and mourning for the dead for almost 100 days. After 100 days, we will make a feast to recite prayer for the dead so that his or her soul will live peacefully in their world. Mrs. Ratna : Well, its very different from my races. When someone died, the body will be taken away to be cremated. Ladies will just stay at home while the men go to perform the last rites. Pn. Fatimah : How long for the mourning time? Mrs. Ratna : The mourning period is usually anything between a month and forty one days. From the moment a person died, the normal prayers which usually performed in the house are stopped until the sixteenth day. The family does not even go to the temple. Pn. Fatimah : Then, what happened? Mrs. Ratna : On a special morning, the house is washed and cleaned. Then, a priest is called to bless the house. Pn. Fatimah : Oh, I see. NAME:DIVYAHSHNI A/P MIGARAJ

From my experience doing this assignment with my friend, I could improve my understanding about the role play. Based on my understanding, role-play refers to the changing of one's behaviour to assume a role, either unconsciously to fill a social role, or consciously to act out an adopted role. Role-playing may also refer to role training where people rehearse situations in preparation for a future performance and to improve their abilities within a role. In addition, I also learnt about the writing skill. The writing skill is one of the four necessary basic skills for students to be competent in using the English language. The writing skill show whether a student has been able to master the English language. This assignment give me some examples to how I able to show and how much I can put into writing . Moreover,I also can improve my english very well and I also can makes changes for my language skill.By doing this assignment, I also can overcome lack of knowledge and by doing this assignment, its encourage us to read many books and articles which can make us to learn more new words.
