Working Race Name: Nachtrellians Personality: While lack of vocal organs makes deducing a nachtrellian's personality difficult, most

of them seem to be fairly curious creatures, not terribly intelligent, and they have many traits of primitive cultures, having never been in humanoid civilization before and only just recently forming their own. They are quick to make friends with outsiders, as it is difficult to hide one's true feelings from their sense of smell, and they are fooled by false friends very rarely. They are very dedicated to their friends, and show no appreciable regard for race, treating all who would have them as friends in kind (though there are no records of Nachtrellians making friends with Troglodytes, for expectable reasons). They are known to become talented musicians and artists, though song and poetry are beyond them, at least as we know them. Among their own kind they have been known to make 'perfume performances' using their pheremones as instruments, the subtleties of which are lost on less olfactory sensitive creatures. Physical Description: Civilised nachtrellians stand between 5'6" and 6'6" and usually weigh between 100 and 200 pounds. There is no visible height or weight difference between males and females. They are graceful and lean, and appear incapable of accruing body fat. They possess no mouths or noses, and their eyes are monochromatic pools of fluid that change color with the nachtrellian's mood, and have long, tapered ears. They possess no hair whatsoever, but have long, thick tendrils that grow out of the backs of their heads, these tendrils serve a variety of purposes, from breathing, to drinking, to emitting the pheremones that allow them to communicate properly. Many of them also appear to be very sensitive to tactile stimulus, and it is not uncommon to encounter two or more nachtrellians playing and stroking one another's head tails. They have two thick fingers and a thumb on each hand and three thick toes on each foot, in addition to a long, fleshy tail that usually reaches just above the nachtrellian's ankles but can vary in size. The less civilized cousins of the modern Nachtrellian usually stand 15-25 feet tall, but generally squat like apes, making their apparent height closer to 10 feet, and weigh between 600-1200 pounds, they have longer arms and thicker tails than their smaller cousins, but are otherwise nearly identical. Relations: Nachtrellians treat all races roughly equally, they find the magic of elves frightening and astounding at times (except in the case of Nachtrellian Sorcerors) and Dwarven technology infinitely entertaing and delightful. They appear to utterly adore halflings and gnomes, and are quick to protect even those they have no previous acquaintance with, this is likely due to their perception of them

as children. Alignment: Being a less-than-civilized culture, few nachtrellians are Lawful or Evil, more often they are Good than not, and their value of freedom can give them a chaotic bent. Nachtrellian Lands: The Nachtrellians first emerged from the deep, methane filled caves of the northern mountains, and have since established settlements along the foothills and bases of mountains. They have no nation or territorial claim, but few bother to try and take their lands for the ferocity of their warriors and relative uselessness of their land to others. Nachtrellians always settle near water or methane vents, and generally do not care about soil or growing potential (having no need to eat) and only construct simple domiciles or living in caves or outcroppings. Nachtrellians encountered in other lands are usually accompanied by members of other races as companions, or they are struck with Wanderlust and seek to explore. Other races tend to regard them as primitive and can grow impatient with their inability to speak. Some Nachtrellians are employed as heavy labor in cities and other humanoid settlements, and Nachtrellians are quick to adapt a form of communication with the race they are around, either through sing language or writing. Religion: Nachtrellians have no apparent religion, some of them convert to the humanoid gods, but they appear to offer homage to no god of their own. Language: Nachtrellians communicate with each other through pheremones and body language, making it nigh impossible to learn the nachtrellian language. They can be taught to understand any language, and they take to writing fairly well, they are capable of expressing complex thoughts and feelings in writing, but have no talent for poetry or lyrics. Names: Nachtrellian's own names are expressed as a scent, and usually used as a way to leave one's mark on something, if asked to write their name in a written language, the name generally offers a short description of the Nachtrellian in question, and his point of origin (ie, Long tail from beneath the waterfall) they

don't seem to mind being given names from other languages or races, and will quickly begin to identify with a given name. Adventurers: Nachtrellian adventureres are not terribly common, those encountered are usually due to wanderlust, which appears to infect members of social groups that have a gender imbalance, the excess of one gender generally leaving either to strike out their own settlement or simply do as they please in their wanderings.
