One-Way ANOVA

Refer to Section 11.1 "Essential Mathematics & Statistics for Science", 2nd Ed, by Dr G Currell & Use Data from Example 11.2 Catalyst A B C Day 1 84 78 83 Day 2 83 79 80 Day 3 79 78 78 Day 4 80 76 78

Use Data tab> Data Analysis (in Analysis) > Anova: Single Factor Note: If Data Analysis does not appear under Tools go to row 52 Select cells C8:G10 as the Input Range - this includes the labels A, B and C NB: Days 1-4 are not labels in this problem they are just replicate measurements. Check the 'Rows' option in this case - this is because the replicates for each 'level' A, B or C are in rows. Check the box for 'Labels in First Column' Select an appropriate value for the Significance Level 'alpha' - typically 0.05 Check the 'Ouput Range' option and enter B33 to display the output below: Click OK

See Book for explanation of data output Note that Data Analysis Tools are not dynamic - the whole process must be repeated for n Anova: Single Factor SUMMARY Groups A B C

Refer to Section 11.3 "Essential Mathematics & Statistics for Science", 2nd Ed, by Dr G Currell & Use Data from Example 11.7 - and see also the calculation for the One-Way ANOVA Note that for the ANOVA with Replication, Excel expects that the replicates are given in subsequent rows. - i.e. in this example there are 3 'Rows per Sample' Fuel Mixture B 67.2 68.4 69.6 78 76 77

Transferring ANOVA Data to Statistics Software

"Essential Mathematics & Statistics for Science", 2nd Ed, by Dr G Currell &

Statisics Software (e.g. MINITAB, SPSS) typically requires data given in a single colu - with labels in second (or more) columns Example 1:Use Data from Example 11.2 Catalyst A B C Day 1 84 78 83 Day 2 83 79 80 Day 3 79 78 78 Day 4 80 76 78
