Bible character- GIDEON Text: Judges 6:1-40 Do you know about Gideon?

Gideon is the son of Joash the Abiezrite. He was one of Judges in Israel. He was called by God to deliver the lsraelites from the oppression of the Midianites. He was commissioned while threshing some wheat secretly in a wine press, so that the Midianites wouldn t see him. He was a mighty man of valor. He was filled with spirit of God. (Judges 6:1-12, 6: 34). When God called him, he gave the angel excuses why he wasn t worth the task. Vs 15, And he said unto him, oh my lord, where with shall I save Israel? Behold my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father s house . Gideon doubts a lot that was why he occasionally wanted to perceive if it was God that was talking to him.(He wanted a sign). He obeyed the voice of God and conquered the midianites with 300 soldiers. His name was changed from Gideon to Jerubaal because he removed the altar of Baal a foreign god brought to Israel. Jerubaal means Let baal plead for himself because he (Gideon) has thrown down his altar . Also it means let the shameful thing plead . He called God s altar Jehovah Shalom . As was directed by God after the battle with the midianites. There was quietness in the land for forty years. He later made an idol from the gold his soldiers gave to him and put it in his home town called ophrah. All the Israelites abandoned God and worshiped idol in his home town Ophrah. He died in a very good age and he had seventy sons because he had many wives and a concubine in Shechem who bore him a son called

Abimelech. Gideon was buried in the tomb of his father at Ophrah the town of the clan of Abiezer. His people forgot about God and him. They didn t remember his family because they followed after baal. ESSENTIAL POINT TO NOTE ABOUT GIDEON  Gideon was the least in his family, yet he was chosen by God. So it does not matter your status. God works with those he wants to work with. For instance, Jonah, Moses, Jeremiah etc. with all their excuses God still caught them when it was time for serious work. We cannot run away from him. Apostle G.D Numbere the overseer of Greater Evangelism world Crusade tried running but God caught him and returned him from where he started the race. Today, he is doing the work with passion and joy inside of him. These persons gave excuses or ran because they didn t understand the heart beat of God and how urgent the tasks were. God does not want to see people perishing neither does he want to see them under oppression and bet noire.  Gideon loved God and destroyed strange altars. But his latter days on earth didn t please God because he went back to rebuild what he destroyed some years ago. He simply went back to lick his vomit (rejecting sin and reclaiming it again). This characteristic is found in dogs and bitches. It is like rejecting the sin of fornication and after marriage you advance into the sin of adultery. He wasn t remembered by the people he served. The bible says that sin is a reproach
