AUGUST IS CATHOLIC CHARITIES MONTH

For nearly 50 years Catholic Charities has been helping the people of the Diocese of Joliet. We have taken the words of Matthew's Gospel to heart as they have fed the hungry, sheltered the homeless, cared for the sick, and embraced children who have been abused and neglected. In the past few years Catholic Charities has seen increased numbers of people in need asking for help. Last year we helped 73,000 people - 30% more than the year before. Many of these families have struggled with unemployment, losing their homes, and their dignity. We are called to help the poor and the vulnerable among us and while many of you may be struggling with needs of your own, I ask that you consider reaching out to help one of your brothers and sisters. DIOCESAN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY MASS
The Thirty-third Annual Diocesan Wedding Anniversary Mass will be celebrated on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet. Couples celebrating anniversaries of 25 years, 50 years, and more than 50 years, are invited to attend the event. Couples will receive an anniversary certificate and will be led through a blessing/renewal ceremony during the liturgy. Our celebrant will be the newly installed Bishop R. Daniel Conlon, fifth bishop of Joliet. Because of space limitations, there is not room for additional guests. However, if necessary, a caregiver/helper is very welcome to attend with the couple. Preparation for Sacrament of Baptism: Your family must be registered active members of our Parish. Baptismal Prep Mtgs will now be divided into two meetings, 4 weeks apart. We are to listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and be prepared to step out in faith to fulfill it.

Do you have old Holy Medals? We are in need of all types of beads and Holy Medals. The beads are used to make rosaries for those beginning their journey to wholeness through healing prayer, as well as to encourage people to pray the rosary. Holy Medals are repurposed and provide another avenue of prayer.
