Standards for Precalculus Semester 1

Forever Standards - These never go away! A. I can simplify and perform operations on fractions without a calculator. This includes simplifying, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. B. I can solve all types of linear equations algebraically. C. I can factor trinomials (including with leading coefficient other than 1) D. I can solve equations graphically with a calculator (when appropriate). E. I can relate multilaterally the type of function, to function notation, to the parent graph (Linear, Absolute Value, Quadratic, Radical, Exponential...). F. I can solve quadratics by factoring, graphing, and the quadratic formula. G. I can find an appropriate window for graphs on the calculator.

Function Basic and Properties 1. Given a graph, I can determine the domain and range in interval notation of a function or relation. 2. I can describe the domain of simple radical and rational functions. 3. I can describe the properties of a graph. Including but not limited to: Domain, Range, Increasing and Decreasing Intervals, one-to-one, local and absolute extrema, axes of symmetry, end behavior. 4. I can graph piece-wise functions, and write piece-wise functions given a graph and/or situation (B).

5. I can identify even and odd functions both algebraically and graphically and describe their symmetry. (why do we do this?) . 6. I can combine functions through addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

7. I can perform a composition of functions. 8. I can find inverse functions, and verify/determine if two functions are inverses.

Unit Circle and Evaluating Trigonometric Functions 9. I can convert between radian and degree measure. 10. I can determine arc length, angular velocity, and linear velocity. 11. I can compute sine and cosine values for the standard angles in the first quadrant. 14. I can compute sine and cosine values for the standard angle analogues in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quadrants. 15. I can evaluate the 6 trigonometric functions in degrees and radians 16. I can evaluate expressions using the 6 inverse trigonometric functions.

Law of Sine, Cosine, Double and Half Angle 17. I can identify when to use the law of sines, and can apply it to find missing sides and angles.

18. I can identify when the law of sines is ambiguous, determine how many solutions are present, and find those solutions. 19. I can identify when to use the law of cosines, and use it to find missing sides and angles accurately. 20. I can draw pictures/diagrams to represent problems involving trigonometric ratios, the law of sines, and/or the law of cosines. 21. I can find the area of triangles given various information. 22. I can evaluate/simplify expressions using double and half angle formulas.

Graphing Trigonometric Functions 23. I can graph f(x) = sin(x) and g(x) = cos(x) and h(x) = tan(x) over various domains. 24. I can identify the vertical shift, phase shift, period, and amplitude of trigonometric functions. 25. I can sketch the 3 basic trigonometric functions under transformations accurately. 26. Given a graph, I can write an equation of a trigonometric function.

27. I can identify and sketch graphs of the three basic inverse trigonometric functions and describe the domain and range of each. 28. I can write equations to model periodic behavior. 29. I can analyze periodic models to predict future behavior.

Trigonometric Equations 30. I can use trigonometric identities to prove trigonometric equalities

31. I can solve trigonometric equations algebraically.
