What you need: five beanbags
What you do: Set up a designated area (a roped off area, hula hoop or masking
tape circle on the floor) that will be the target (the giant). The children will throw the
beanbag and try to reach the target. Before starting the game, ask the children,
With Gods help, it only took David one stone to hit the giant. How many stones
does it take you? Give each child a chance to throw the five beanbags.
What you say: Today in our story we learned that David wasnt afraid to stand
against the giant Goliath. Do you think God wants us to ask for help when we are
afraid? Yes, he does. David asked for help against the giant Goliath, and we can
ask for help too.
What you need: blue paper heart
What you do: Sit with the children in a circle. Tell the children that they will each
have a turn to hold the blue heart. When they get the heart, they are to tell of some-
thing that makes them scared, and then pass the heart to someone else in the
circle. After each child has shared, one of the leaders can pray for the children.
What you say: Today in our story we learned that David wasnt afraid to stand
against the giant Goliath. We just shared the different things that make us afraid. Do
you think God wants us to ask for help when we are afraid? Yes, he does. David
asked for help to fight the giant Goliath, and we can ask for help too.
What you need: nothing
What you do: This game is played somewhat like rock, paper, scissors. Have
the children sit on the floor in front of the leader. As the leader says each scenario,
the children will decide which response they should have and do the appropriate
motion.
scrunch into a ball = they would freeze like a rock and do nothing
cover eyes with hands = they would hide under a blanket
praying hands = they would pray to God
Scenarios: Big, loud thunderstorm. First day at a new school. Lost your favor-
ite toy at the park. Too dark at night. You wandered off and cant find your
Mommy/Daddy at the store. A big wave crashes on you at the beach. You
disobeyed your parents by scribbling on the wall. You accidentally broke your
Mommys favorite lamp by playing ball in the house.
What you say: Today in our story we learned that David stood against the giant
Goliath. Before he went to fight Goliath, he asked for Gods help. Did God help him?
In our game, I asked about different things that might make us afraid. Do you think
God wants us to ask for help when we are afraid? Yes, he does. David asked for
help to fight the giant Goliath, and we can ask for help too.

3. Have the children color the front and back of their satchel.
4. Have the children cut the stones from the craft page. You may
consider precutting the craft page for younger preschoolers.
5. When finished cutting, the children can put their five smooth
stones into their satchels.
