Comm Day 3.

0 Apprentice Challenge Each member of the winning team will shadow a professional in his or her field for a day on the job, at businesses such as Concussion Advertising, CW-33, Open Channels Communication, Ranch Radio, Ride for the Brand (Web design and online marketing), Six Flags, and the Star-Telegram. Anything competing students produce may be used by our corporate partner TXU Energy whether it comes from a winning team or not. RULES: 1) Each team must consist of one MAJOR from each of the six sequences in the Department of Communication: advertising, broadcast, communication studies, communication technology, journalism, and public relations. A Youre Hired! Apprentice Challenge discussion thread has been set up on the UTA Department of Communication Facebook page to facilitate team formation. 2) Each team must send at least one representative to an informational session with our corporate partner TXU Energy from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14, in FAB room 258. 3) Based on the scenario TXU Energy provides, each team must create a professional communication package, including ALL of the following elements: a. b. c. d. e. f. g. h. i. Internal communication strategy Promotional video Flier (to hand out at events) Banner ad News release Web page Logo (to be used on all components of the plan) Ideas for promotional giveaway items Content for Tweets/Facebook posts

Elements of the plan must look professional and be cohesive in terms of logo, colors and style. Teams may develop other elements if they wish, but additional elements do not take the place of the required components listed above. All elements must ACTUALLY BE PRODUCED and submitted on a single CD to the Department of Communication (FAB room 118) by 4 p.m. on Friday, October 14. No element should be EXECUTED. TXU will select the components they want to use. DO NOT contact media outlets. DO NOT post information and/or video to social media outlets. DO NOT reach out to TXU employees other than those identified as contacts. All members of any team that attempts to execute any part of the communication package without consent will be DISQUALIFIED from the Apprentice Challenge. Teams will be judged based on creativity, demonstrated skill in the students respective sequences, professionalism, cohesiveness of the overall package, and potential for practical application of the elements produced. Three teams will be selected as finalists and notified by October 21. These teams must make a formal presentation of their communication plans at the Communication Day event, at which the winning team will be announced. Presentations are scheduled for 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25, in the Bluebonnet Ballroom at UTAs University Center. **Questions may be directed at Dr. Erika Pribanic-Smith, epsmith@uta.edu.**
