RECALLING HIS DEEDS, SEEING HIS POWER, MERCY AND WRATH COMBINED, VICTORY FOR THE BELIEVER THE LORD MAKES MY FEET LIKE HINDS FEET WRATH AND MERCY ARE COUPLED TOGETHER

Habakkuk 3:119 (ESV)

Habakkuks Prayer

A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, according to Shigionoth.

2 O LORD, I have heard the report of you, and your work, O LORD, do I fear. In the midst of the years revive it; in the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy. 3 God came from Teman, and the Holy One from Mount Paran. His splendor covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise. Selah 4 His brightness was like the light; rays flashed from his hand; and there he veiled his power. 5 Before him went pestilence, and plague followed at his heels. 6 He stood and measured the earth; he looked and shook the nations; then the eternal mountains were scattered; the everlasting hills sank low. His were the everlasting ways. 7 I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction; the curtains of the land of Midian did tremble. 8 Was your wrath against the rivers, O LORD? Was your anger against the rivers,

or your indignation against the sea, when you rode on your horses, on your chariot of salvation? 9 You stripped the sheath from your bow, calling for many arrows. Selah You split the earth with rivers. 10 The mountains saw you and writhed; the raging waters swept on; the deep gave forth its voice; it lifted its hands on high. 11 The sun and moon stood still in their place at the light of your arrows as they sped, at the flash of your glittering spear. 12 You marched through the earth in fury; you threshed the nations in anger. 13 You went out for the salvation of your people, for the salvation of your anointed. You crushed the head of the house of the wicked, laying him bare from thigh to neck. Selah 14 You pierced with his own arrows the heads of his warriors, who came like a whirlwind to scatter me, rejoicing as if to devour the poor in secret. 15 You trampled the sea with your horses, the surging of mighty waters. 16 I hear, and my body trembles; my lips quiver at the sound; rottenness enters into my bones; my legs tremble beneath me. Yet I will quietly wait for the day of trouble to come upon people who invade us.
Habakkuk Rejoices in the LORD

17 Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, 18 yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. 19 GOD, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the deers; he makes me tread on my high places. To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments. 1. Why can we rejoice in God? Consider all the ways and reasons you can rejoice in God? Be specific. 2. For review, describe Habakkuk's circumstances.

3. Now, think about anything in your life that is difficult or unpleasant, does your circumstance change who God is ? Why or why not? IT IS SO VERY SIGNIFICANT THAT WE KNOW THAT GOD NEVER CHANGES. HE ALWAYS ACTS ACCORDING TO HIS WORD and CHARACTER. WE MUST NEVER EVER LOSE SIGHT OF WHO OUR GOD IS. THAT IS WHAT FAITH IS. NOT ALWAYS KNOWING WHAT WILL HAPPEN, BUT KNOWING WHO IS THE ONE IN CONTROL. 4. Read Hab. 3:1-2, what does Habakkuk mean I have heard the report of you,? What was the report? And what would cause Habakkuk to fear? Hab. 2 A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, according to Shigionoth. 2 O LORD, I have heard the report of you, and your work, O LORD, do I fear. In the midst of the years revive it; in the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy.

SO THE LORD CHANGED HIS MIND ABOU THE HARM WHICH HE SAID HE WOULD DO TO HIS PEOPLE. Ro. 11:25-26 FOR I DO NOT WANT YOU, BRETHREN, TO BE UNINFORMED OF THIS MYSTERY, LEST YOU BE WISE IN YOUR OWN ESTIMATION, THAT A PARTIAL HARDENING HAS HAPPENED TO ISRAEL UNTIL THE FULLNESS OF THE GENTILES HAS COME IN; AND THUS ALL ISRAEL WILL BE SAVED; JUST AS IT IS WRITTEN, THE DELIVERER WIL L COME FROM ZION, HE WILL REMOVE THE UNGODLINESS FROM JACOB. 7. Hab. 1:12-13a Art thou from everlasting, O Lord My God my Holy One, We will not die. Thou O Lord, hast established them to correct. Thine eyes are too pure to approve evil, and Thou cannot look on wickedness with favor. Ge. 3:14-19 THE RESULTS OF THE CURSE (WRATH ON SIN), YET MERCY ON HIS PEOPLE. GOD SHOWS HIS MERCY TO EVE BY ALLOWING HER TO BEAR CHILDREN (ALTHOUGH IN PAIN) AND HER SEED WILL BE THE ONE WHO WILL HAVE VICTORY OVER EVIL. ADAM WILL BE ABLE TO STILL HAVE FOOD AND RULE IN THE GARDEN (IT WILL JUST BE MUCH MORE DIFFICULT). Ge. 45:1-7 GOD WAS MERCIFUL AGAIN TO HIS CHILDREN. JOESPH'S BROTHERS SINNED GREATLY AGAINST JOESPH, BUT GOD ALLOWED JOESPH TO SHOW THEM KINDNESS and TO PRESERVE THEIR LIVES. Matt.26:69-75 RE: PETER DENYING THE LORD 3 TIMES AND YET GOD STILL WAS GRACIOUS EVEN THOUGH PETER DENIED HIM. GOD SHOWED HIS MERCY AND HIS PLAN FOR HIS PEOPLE BY LATER TELLING PETER THAT HE WAS THE ONE ON WHOM HE WAS GOING TO BUILD HIS CHURC H. What in life are you holding back and believing that you could not live without and give God glory? What is one of the key component in enduring trials? Read the following passages Php. 4:13 I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME. 2 Co. 12:9-10 And He said to me My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong, Consider any time or biblical accounts where God made a person or nation stand on their high place.
