Module II [8] Fuel & combustion: Classification, Properties, calorific value determination (theoretical & experimental) , flue gas analysis & combustion calculation. a): Liquid fuels : Composition of crude oil, processing of crude oil, synthetic oil Diesel : Diesel engine ignition temperature, flash point, fire point, smoke point, cetane no Petrol : Spark ignition IC engine, gasoline fuel, Grading gasoline Knocking,additives & dopants, octane no., alternative fuels (propane, methanol ethanol ) b) Lubricants: Classification & mechanism, gaseous, liquid & Solid lubricants, extreme pressure lubricants, synthetic lubricants, grease. c) Gaseous fuels d) Solid fuel Structure of coal, Proximate & Ultimate Analysis, Carbonization and pyrolysis, recovery and purification of by products obtained from coke ovens. Module III [7] Kinetics and catalysis: chain reactions, parallel reactions, side reactions, fast reactions in solutions, flash photolysis, recent advancements in catalysis (preparations & application of some industrially important catalysts)

Module IV [5] Introduction to nano materials: Recent Developments in Chemistry and Chemical applications (examples of nano materials of silica), basic idea about carbon nano materials, Liquid crystals and its uses, fullerenes (C60,C70). Module V [6] Fundamentals of spectroscopy: Basic principles & application of spectroscopy in Environmental Monitoring. Module VI [8] Polymers: Introduction to polymers & polymer characterization , mechanism of polymerization (Free radical, Anionic & Cationic),Molecular Weight of polymers ( Mn M w, Mv), glass transition temperature (Tg ), structure property relationship (chemical, electrical, optical and mechanical ) a brief introduction to inorganic polymers, adhesives & adhesion : Classification & theory
