A2 GCE Applied ICT Unit 13 - Artwork and Imaging

Task A: Creating a portfolio of evidence

Create a portfolio of artwork which includes at least one (but preferably more!) of each of the following. The portfolio should be presented to the client so, whilst it must be annotated to explain the tools used, there is no need for screenshots of development. 1. A picture created using simple lines and shapes, e.g. of a room layout 2. A design for wallpaper / wrapping paper which has a repeating pattern (perhaps using shapes), making use of the GRID tool to position objects 3. A set of icons which could represent computing shortcuts: these should be suitable for resizing to icon size, so have a look at how to make FAVICONS and think about resolution and canvas size 4. A background style to represent information in context (perhaps a notepad, a photo frame, a school whiteboard) 5. A set of common shapes with the angle sizes shown for use in Maths or Science, making use of the POLYGON tool, the TEXT tool and the ROTATE tool 6. A specialist diagram for a subject of your choice, e.g: An anatomical drawing of part of the body for Biology or PE A diagram of logical circuits for Technology/Computing A complex drawing of a polygon, showing angle sizes, for Maths A drawing of the chemical structure of an element for Chemistry A diagram to explain the component parts of a camera for Media Studies

This could be scanned and imported into the graphics software, then traced using the PEN tool to create a new digital image. 7. A statistical graph showing a range of different scales (do this in Excel) 8. A box graph (column/bar) showing a range of different scales (in Excel) 9. One photograph presented several times in different ways by a. b. c. d. e. f. g. h. Changing hue and saturation Inverting the colour Using dodge and/or burn Removing scratches and blemishes Sharpening and/or blurring Changing colour levels Adding a mask Any other photo editing/manipulation techniques you have learned

You must also show that you have manipulated images to explore different styles of presenting the same image. All of the images must be created and developed by you and not downloaded from the Internet. Any images sourced from the Internet for use in your artwork must be referenced.

CHECKLIST have you shown evidence of this by the end of the project? You need to provide evidence of choosing the most appropriate software tools and techniques for creating artwork and images, for example: TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES use layers for different components; use different styles (text, line, fill); apply shading and rendering; import images; include the features of object overlay, borders; control grid spacing and snap to grid; use appropriate scaling; include polygons; utilise object libraries, including clip art; sharpening; removing scratches/blemishes; darkening/lightening shadows (dodge/burn); colour correction (loading); control page size and orientation; use different styles (text, brush, fill); use tools to cut and paste, copy, crop and mask; include polygons; use colour (hue, tint and saturation), colour inversion and key colour; apply colour separation and balance (CMYK, RBG); repeat a pattern (full, half drop); EVIDENCE? Y/N PAGE NO

You also need to use basic tools and techniques that are appropriate, such as: transform, scale, rotate, distort filters, effects, colour balance, levels and curves, masks and layers; layering, grouping, 3D objects and tracing; change the resolution, colour depth and file formats to suit different users; adjust images to ensure compatibility between different software and operating systems. You also need to show that you know how to save files: in digital picture format , e.g. jpeg, psd, png; as bitmaps, i.e. bmp; as vector graphics, e.g. syg, eps (you can do this in Adobe Illustrator)
