REVEREND JOSEPH T. SCHEFFNER ENDOWMENT FUND Parishioners and friends are encouraged to remember their loved ones at the time of death or for any special occasion by contributing a memorial gift to the ENDOWMENT FUND. The Fund provides parish support and tuition assistance to parish children who attend Our Lady of Mount Carmel School. Brochures concerning the Fund and remittance envelopes are available in the back of the church. Tuition assistance from the inception of the Fund is $76,235.00. Contributions to the Fund since inception are $143,670.00.

Your input is greatly appreciated. RCIA Are you interested in the Catholic Church? Have you been thinking about becoming a Catholic? Would you like to know more about Catholicism? Are you a baptized Catholic but have not yet completed your initiation (First Communion and/or Confirmation)? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process by which people enter the Catholic Church. It generally runs from September through April. RAINBOWS Rainbows is a program for children experiencing loss from divorce, separation, abandonment or death. It consists of 12 weekly peer support group meetings which assist children and families in coping with difficult life transitions. GREAT LAKES HOSPICE Great Lakes Hospice is hosting volunteer training on Tuesday, September 20 and Thursday, September 22. Hospice is in need of men and women who are willing to spend time with families and loved ones of patients. BLUE MASS HONORING SAFETY PERSONNEL The Knights of Columbus, John Mark Gannon Assembly 0943 invites all to attend a Blue Mass on Sunday, September 11 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Luke Church. The Mass is being said to honor those brave men and women who serve our communities as police officers, firefighters and emergency medical service personnel. Holding it on this date will also pay tribute to those who lost their lives 10 years ago in New York City, Washington DC and just outside Shanksville, Pa. ZABAWA Everyone is invited to the 18th annual ZABAWA Polish Heritage festival next weekend at Holy Trinity Parish, 23rd & Reed St. Festival hours are Friday from 5:00 - 10:00 p.m., Saturday 1:00 - 10:30 p.m. and Sunday, noon - 6:00 p.m. The festival features a polish bakery, multiple food courts, live polka music on the festival stage, folk dancers, drawings, theme baskets, children and adult games of chance. RETREAT PLANNED The Archbishop John Mark Gannon Assembly 0943 of the Knights of Columbus will be sponsoring a retreat on September 17, being facilitated by Msgr. Dan Arnold, Faithful Friar of the assembly and pastor of St. Marks in Lawrence Park. The theme of this retreat is Spirituality - The manifestation of Gods life in Us. It will take place at St Mark Catholic Center, 429 E Grandview Blvd. Registration begins at noon and will conclude with Mass at 5:00 p.m. A light lunch will be provided for all in attendance and a free-will offering will be accepted at the door to help defray costs. Reservations must be made before September 6 to either Steve Cash @ 825-6706 or Mike Goodemote @ 456-6205. This retreat is not just for the Knights; it is open to anyone 18 years of age or older. Please save this day on your calendar and plan on attending this worthwhile event. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED .at St. John/Holy Rosary School to help in Extended Care/Kids Caf. Beginning September 6, the program runs Monday through Friday. 2:30 - 5:30 p.m. Adults and high school students are needed to help supervise and interact with children at playing games, arts and crafts, assisting with homework and helping with light clean-up after dinner.
