The Argyle Community Enhancement Team proudly announces that it has become a member of the Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce, using this opportunity to promote Argyle businesses and events, create new networking opportunities and partnerships with other local businesses. ACET will have a booth in the Grange/Community Living Building at the Washington County Fair where all Argyle businesses and organizations are invited to display their brochures, business cards and displays FREE. We encourage you to leave your promotional material in the ACET box inside the entrance of the Argyle Free Library before Saturday, August 20th. Plans are being made for the 4th annual Old Fashioned Christmas in Argyle to be held Saturday, December 10th. Join us that day by planning your own open house or holiday event and we will include you in our promotions. This year ACET has participated in the Stiles House Clean Up Day and the Lufkin Memorial Garden Tractor Pull, hosted a representative from C T Mail to discuss brownwater issues and Tori Riley from Washington County Local Development Corporation to discuss how we can best serve the businesses of Argyle. Besides the Washington County Fair booth and An Old Fashioned Christmas, ACET plans to participate in the Argyle Columbus Day Weekend, host a business showcase and art show at the Christmas event, and prepare for the third issue of the Plaid Pages, a business and organization directory that lists Argyle area events, an Argyle town map, and information about ACET, to be published in the spring of 2012.
FAMILY PADDLE TOUR ON THE HUDSON RIVER sponsored by the Chapman Historical Museum in collaboration with Moreau Lake State Park, Saturday, August 27th at 10 am and last about three hours. Guided by a Moreau Lake State Park Naturalist, the program will explore the history and ecology of the Spier Falls hydroelectric dam built in 1903. Members of the public are invited to bring their own canoe or kayak; lifejackets are required. Moreau Lake State Park has a limited number of kayaks available to rent at $15. A MUSICAL TRIP AROUND THE WORLD- The summer reading program theme at the Pember Library this summer is One World, Many Stories. Karen Gallagher is a music therapist working in hospital, group home and nursing home settings. She plays the flute with the Sage City Symphony and Washington County Band. She has been leading sing-alongs and encouraging others to make music for over 20 years. Karen will lead our sing-along on August 24 at 6:00 PM at the Pember Library; 33 West Main St. in Granville.
