It was an entertaining evening, with lots of laughs, music, talented students, a wonderful stage set and amazing puppetry. Congratulations to the students involved in the production; the practice, commitment and the holiday rehearsals really paid off, it was a very enjoyable show and a great success. Little Shop of Horrors provided a fantastic opportunity for our students to experience first hand the excitement and commitment that goes with a full scale professional production. It is particularly warming to receive feedback from families about the show, and in particular, their own childs performance: WOW Weve seen a lot of school productions over the years; fantastic production. Please congratulate Mr Clulow, all teachers and students involved. You brought the best out of our son. We didnt know he had it in him, were very proud! A special thank you to our Director this year, Michael Clulow , Assistant Director, Belinda (Bindi) Gatward as well as Alison Cross, Angie Glikson, Jenny Heathcote, Jane Abley, Erin Albuino, Hannah Bullen, Ben Franklin, Ashleigh Kreveld, Cherie Morgan, Ben McNally, Emma Winton, Helen McIntosh, Sally Thompson, Jane Carter, Katie Volich, Lisa Mallet, Rosemary McGinley, Judy Anderson, Alisha Smith, Carolyn Koerntjes, Katerina Petakis, Ryan Kennedy, Matt Sires and many more who made Little Shop of Horrors a reality. An honourable mention must also go to the band, without their hard work and fantastic unity, the production would not have been such a success. I dont know how you are going to top this production next year, but we are all looking forward to it. Parent Opinion Survey The use of opinion data as a measure of College performance is a very important step towards making our College the best it can possibly be. In recent years, we have conducted annual and anonymous opinion surveys for staff, students and parents. We use this information to inform and direct our plans for College improvement. Many parents/guardians over the years will have completed these surveys by being randomly selected. In coming weeks this years Parent Opinion Survey will be conducted and if you are one of the randomly selected families, I would ask you to take the time to complete the survey and send back to the College by the due date, as your opinions are important to us and will be reflected in the management and organisation of the College. One example of this has been the change in the way we structure student/parent/teacher interviews which came about following results from our Parent Opinion Survey.

Thursday August 31 7.00pm Senior Campus Hall

The evening will include: A discussion of student transition from Junior Campus to Senior Campus An outline of the Middle School management structure including support services available to students Camps, activities and programs available to Middle School students A discussion of the Middle School curriculum Start of 2012 Elective Subject Selection process for all Middle School students, including an outline of the new on-line process for Elective Subject Selection

Monash

Regional German Poetry Competition

Over the past two months, all of our Year 9 German students have been spending a lot of time and effort memorising a German poem. After much deliberation, our winners were chosen Rebecca Mahesan, Lauryn Womersley and Priya Mahesan.

Youth Personal Safety Program

Last week all parents of Year 9 students were sent an invitation to attend the final session of the Monash Youth Personal Safety Program an information evening on August 16. We strongly encourage all parents of year 9 students to attend with their child. During the course of the evening, there will be a student presentation and opportunities for parents to ask questions. The agencies involved in this program are all trying to make a difference and hope for your involvement in this worthwhile program.

On Tuesday, August 9, our three Year 9 representatives excitedly boarded the mini bus headed for Amsleigh Park Primary to compete in the annual Regional German Poetry Competition. There was some very tough competition, but once again our students did very well. Rebecca received an honourable mention for her efforts and Lauryns outstanding recitation earned her a bronze medallion. Lauryn now has the opportunity to prepare another poem to recite at the State Poetry Competition on August 27. Viel Glck Lauryn! It was really wonderful to see their diligence being rewarded and their joy in being part of a celebration of German language skills. Their only disappointment was that they can't be part of it next year, as it is only for Grade 5 - Year 9 students. If you see them around the College, please congratulate them on their hard work. Senior Boys & Girls Badminton - Zone Finals

Mount Waverley Secondary Colleges Senior Badminton players have proven themselves to be the best in our metropolitan zone and consequently qualified to contend in the South East Conference Finals to be held later this month. In the boys section, amongst fierce opposition, Wilson Tang at number one and Heiman Cheung at number three did not drop a single game on the day. They were ably assisted in their dominance by Homan Cheung at number two, Ryan Lam and Justin Tai at number four as well as substitute Eric Ee (in one of the qualifying rounds). The quality of badminton was superb and drew highly complementary remarks from other team managers and the convenor of the day. In the final, we beat Balwyn by four games to two. In the girls section the contest and the quality of badminton was at an equally impressive level. The girls team obliterated all other opponents with a singles line-up of Sannie Chau, Chooi-Ee Lai, Mei Quan Chan and Sharon Hung and a killer first doubles pairing. The finals series was a nail biter, with Mount Waverley once again battling it head to head against previous zone final winners Balwyn. With both teams suffering injuries, the competition literally hung in balance until the last point after sharing the amount of games won by each team at three a piece. However in the end, the girls strategic playing paid off and Mount Waverley narrowly clinched the win with a final points tally of 113 to 111. Congratulations to both teams and all the best for the next competition!

SYN Radio
On Wednesday, August 10 we caught a train to the city to Syn Radio. We actually sat in a studio, played with the controls and played whatever music we wanted. With lots of text messages coming in, it was a great experience. Thank you to the teachers who have been involved in creating this experience for us. By Tiana, Josie, Alice and Rianna 8K

Athletics Day
Last Friday, just over 800 students travelled to the Knox Athletics track to participate in our 2011 House Carnival. Despite the gloomy forecast, our students were welcomed by sunshine and dry weather, the first time in many years! After a day of fierce competition, Landy House was declared winners on 785 points. Bradman came second on 701 points with Goolagong third on 654 points. Our Year 12s got into the spirit of the day with some original costumes. We had a wedding, an 8 man unicorn, sheep, lifesavers and even a gorilla! Thanks to the students for record participation levels, and to all staff who ensured the carnival was run in such an efficient and professional manner. We will now attack the District Carnival with confidence due to the fantastic performances we witnessed on Friday. Thanks everyone. Mr Banks-Smith and Mr Gwynne Sport Coordinators

If students choose to bring valuable goods to school such as money, phones, mp3 players, Myki cards and train tickets, they are responsible for these items and the items cannot be protected if they do not have a lock on their locker. Locks are available from the General Office for $15.
